Locked On Mets - Daily Podcast On The New York Mets

The New York Mets still need to add another starting pitcher to their rotation this offseason and there just happens to be a future Hall of Famer on the market as a free agent. Could Zack Greinke be the perfect fit to slot into the back-end of the Mets rotation?

Host Ryan Finkelstein discusses the numbers behind Greinke's decline last season and where he could still provide great value to the Mets. Ryan also talks about why Greinke might want to come to New York and pitch for the Mets, despite it being a big market.

When Juan Soto becomes a free agent he will be just 26 years old, and will be in line to cash in on the largest contract in MLB history. We saw this exact same story play out with the Washington Nationals and Bryce Harper not even three years.

The question is, will there be a different outcome this time around?

Host Ryan Finkelstein is joined by Locked On Nationals host Josh Neighbors to discuss whether Soto will receive a contract extension before he hits free agency, or if he will be available for Steve Cohen to poach in a few years.

Here is a link to Ryan's article for Just Baseball on Juan Soto's impending mega-contract.

Trevor Story is one of the top remaining free agent bats on the market this offseason. Would it make sense for the New York Mets to try to sign him?

Host Ryan Finkelstein compares Story to Marcus Semien last offseason, who signed a one-year deal to rebuild his value after a down season in his contract year. Semien cashed in on that prove-it deal and Story could do the same next year.

Ryan also explains why Story's fit on the Mets roster could make more sense than another top free agent in Kris Bryant.

The New York Mets are reportedly set to put Jeff McNeil on the trade block once the MLB lockout ends, but is it really a good idea to move the former All-Star?

Host Ryan Finkelstein discusses Pat Ragazzo's report that McNeil could be moved and what would be the motivation behind making that deal. Considering how hard it would be to replace McNeil's super utility role on the roster, Ryan makes the argument for why the Mets should keep him.

Ryan also details the one scenario where he would be ok with seeing McNeil traded, if they already had their eyes set on a top tier free agent like Kris Bryant or Trevor Story.

Here is the report from Sports Illustrated's Pat Ragazzo on Jeff McNeil being on the trade block.

The New York Mets have on of the top shortstop prospects in baseball in Ronny Mauricio, but with Francisco Lindor locked into a decade-long contract, his best value to the Mets could be as a trade chip.

If the Mets were to move Mauricio this offseason, or at the trade deadline, who should they target?

Host Ryan Finkelstein is joined by Jordan Grossman to discuss some potential trade packages that could put the Mets over the top with Mauricio as the headliner.

If the New York Mets are looking to trade for starting pitching this offseason, the Colorado Rockies should be one of the first teams they call. German Marquez is on a team-friendly deal and has incredible upside with two great breaking pitches. Could the Mets pry him from Colorado?

Host Ryan Finkelstein breaks down what Marquez brings to the table and if a trade package centered around Ronny Mauricio could interest the Rockies in getting a deal done.
