The Red Sox suffered a 16-1 drubbing to the Tampa Bay Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field in the opening game of their 3-game series Monday night.  The Red Sox are now 2-4 in the 1st game of a series through their 1st 6 series of the season. The Rays scored 14 of their runs over the 1st 3 Innings, including 9 runs in the 3rd Inning.  The Rays hit 4 Home Runs in the lopsided win, including 2 from Kameron Misner.

Houck gave up a leadoff Home Run on the 1st pitch that he threw to Yandy Diaz to start off the home 1st-Inning. Houck came back and retired the next 3 hitters on 8 pitches. Houck gave up 4 runs in the 2nd and allowed his 2nd Home Run of the game, a 2-run shot to Kameron Misner.  The Rays scored 9 runs in the 3rd off Houck and Michael Fulmer, who was making his Red Sox debut. #89's Line: 2.1 IP. 10 Hits. 12 R. 11 ER. 2 BB. 1 K. 2 HR Allowed. The Red Sox avoided being swept on the South Side of Chicago with a 3-1 win over the White Sox Sunday afternoon.  Garrett Crochet retired the 1st 15 hitters he faced and lost his no-hit bid in the 8th when Chase Meidroth led off with a single. Aroldis Chapman worked a scoreless 9th inning to record the save. Crochet struck out 11 in his 1st outing against his former club.

Fitts Update: The Red Sox placed RHP Richard Fitts on the Injured List Sunday with a right pectoral strain.  Fitts suffered the injury in Saturday's start.  He was terrific over the 1st 5 Innings against the White Sox Saturday and took the hill in the Bottom of the 6th with a 2-0 lead, but he exited the game with the injury. Zack Kelly came into the game and gave up a 2-run Home Run to Luis Robert Jr. that tied the game at 2-2.  Fitts took a no-decision.

The Red Sox avoided being swept the Toronto Blue Jays with a 4-3, 10-inning win in the series finale Thursday afternoon at Fenway Park. The Sox lose their 1st series of the season against the Jays but managed to go 4-3 on their 1st homestand.  Trevor Story brought in pinch-runner David Hamilton from 3rd base with the winning run on a slow roller that Andres Gimenez could not field and throw home on. It's the Red Sox 2nd walk-off win of the season.

To Err is Human: The Red Sox committed 2 more errors in the series finale. Trevor Story's throwing error in the 7th allowed the go-ahead run to score. The Red Sox committed only 3errors over their 1st 7 games but committed 11 errors on the homestand.

Vandy Boy On the Hill: Walker Buehler, who played his college baseball at Vanderbilt, turned in a strong performance, but still ended up with a no-decision.  Buehler left with the tying run on base in the 7th and Justin Wilson gave up a game-tying single with the run charged to Buehler's record. Buehler did allow a leadoff walk in the 7th, but prior to that had retired 12 of 13 hitters. # 0's Final Line- 6.1 IP. 4 Hits. 1 R. 1 ER. 1 BB. 7 Ks. 1st-P Strikes- 18 of 24.

With RISP: The Red Sox went 0-for-11 with Runners in Scoring Position in falling in 11 Innings Wednesday night and went 2-for-14 with Runners in Scoring Position in the Finale. Series with RISP 4-for-43.

What's On Tap?: The Sox open up a 6-game road trip with the 1st of 3 in Chicago against the White Sox Friday night. San Newcomb and Davis Martin are the scheduled starters for the opener Friday night.  The White Sox fell to the Guardians Thursday afternoon in Cleveland, and they've lost 8 in a row.  Red Sox and Rays will open up a series in Tampa, FL Monday night.

Red Sox Trade: The Red Sox traded Pitcher Quinn Priester to the Milwaukee Brewers for minor league outfielder Yophery Rodriguez, a competitive balance pick (#33) in the 2025 MLB Draft and a player to be named later or cash considerations on Monday. Rodriguez was touted as the 7th-best prospect in the Brewers system according to MLB Pipeline. He’s 19 and started this season off at the Advanced-A Level. Priester was acquired from the Pirates last July for infielder Nick Yorke. Priester made his MLB debut on the final day of the 2024 Regular Season, and he earned the win vs. the Tampa Bay Rays.
