Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Jenna Harner of WPXI-TV.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have switched to being an offensive-led team with Mike McCarthy as head coach. But the key to making this year's offense work will be a balanced attack, and that needs Jaylen Warren. Christopher Carter and Jenna Harner take you inside the Steelers locker room to talk to DK Metcalf, and discuss how the Steelers' offense must spread the wealth around to be the best version of itself. Their week one matchup against the Atlanta Falcons allows for the team to build up some momentum with its run game against one of the worst run defenses in the NFL.

Chris and Jenna also give you all their week one NFL picks as the Locked on Steelers pick'em league is back. Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, with a bonus afternoon episode.

The Pittsburgh Steelers had big plans for Michael Pittman Jr., and now it looks like the veteran receiver is connecting with Aaron Rodgers. But will their chemistry bloom in time for the Steelers' regular season opener against the Atlanta Falcons? Christopher Carter gives you his updates from Steelers practice about how Pittman's gotten closer with Rodgers after missing most of training camp and how their connection could be a big factor that frees up DK Metcalf for more chances to make plays.

Chris also opens up the Locked on Steelers call-in line to take your questions live on the show. Has the offensive line flip of Troy Fautanu and Mason McCormick from the right side to the left backfired? Or is that just paving the way for Max Iheanachor's rise? Who are the backup offensive tackles in an emergency with their thin depth? And fans want to call out Chris for his early takes on the Steelers' rookie class. But Chris points out, several rookies who were kept might not even see the field this season. And if quarterback isn't the position the Steelers want in next year's NFL Draft because of a rise from Drew Allar or Will Howard, what are the top positions Omar Khan and Andy Weidl should target?

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Aaron Freeman of the Locked on Falcons podcast for Crossover Thursday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers face the Atlanta Falcons to open the new season, both teams with new head coaches. But who has the better match? Christopher Carter and Aaron Freeman discuss how Mike McCarthy and Kevin Stefanski have begun their tenures coaching their new teams and which coach has gotten the better results. Both are offensive minded coaches, but have different strengths with their team to lean on to start the season.

Can the Steelers' defense slow down Bijan Robinson? The superstar Falcons running back is the biggest weapon in the Falcons' arsenal, while the Steelers' new defense under Patrick Graham is supposed to be centered around stopping the run. What can Derrick Harmon, Cam Heyward, Keeanu Benton,  T.J. Watt and company do to limit the Falcons' offense? And Aaron Rodgers faces a talented Falcons secondary with A.J. Terrell, Jessie Bates III and Xavier Watts. What can the Steelers do to counter?

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.com.

The Pittsburgh Steelers released their first depth chart of the season and it had Joey Porter Jr. as a co-starting cornerback alongside Asante Samuel Jr. Is that the Steelers putting pressure on Porter to sign a contract extension sooner rather than later? Or is that the Steelers' way of protecting themselves in case Porter holds out going into the season? Christopher Carter and Nick Farabaugh discuss the cornerback situation and whether Christian Gonzalez's deal with the New England Patriots will speed up negotiations between the Steelers and Porter.

Also, Chris and Nick run through the Steelers' first official depth chart and look at where Mike McCarthy's decisions tell the most of the Steelers' plans. Roman Wilson is the team's WR3, but will Germie Bernard get more snaps? Max Iheanachor is a backup behind Dylan Cook, but can the rookie earn a starting spot soon? And with Keeanu Benton named the starting nose tackle, is he back to playing the position he's struggled in or will Yahya Black still come back as the team's nose tackle in 3-4 defenses?

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com.

Pittsburgh Steelers face big questions as Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers roll out a revamped offense—can DK Metcalf remain the go-to target with playmakers like Michael Pittman Jr., Germie Bernard, and Roman Wilson entering the mix? Christopher Carter and Alan Saunders break down key receiver priorities, shifting roles in the wideout group, and how West Coast principles might spread the ball this season.

Defensively, Patrick Queen emerges as the anchor in a unit emphasizing sharper communication under new defensive coordinator Patrick Graham. The hosts dissect whether the Steelers’ improved messaging is a cure for past breakdowns or just more coachspeak. With a deeper look at secondary trust, linebacker calls, and how Pittsburgh might finally keep up with offensive trends, this episode tackles the team’s real championship upside and the potential impact of Week 1’s matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast.

The Pittsburgh Steelers may have the oldest roster in the NFL, but they also have plenty of reason for new hopes. Christopher Carter explains why, and how Mike McCarthy's plans could set the stage for whoever is the next Steelers franchise quarterback to return the franchise to being a Super Bowl contender. While Aaron Rodgers can help the Steelers compete for this season, the true aim of the year is for a blueprint to be established for future offenses.

While the Steelers have drafted Drew Allar and Will Howard, the first week of college football showed the potential for several elite quarterback prospects who could be in next year's NFL Draft. Arch Manning, Jayden Maiava, Dante Moore, Darien Mensah, Trinidad Chambliss, LaNorris Sellers and other quarterbacks all showed that the next quarterback class might be the one the Steelers need to find their next franchise quarterback.

Finally, Chris also looks at the Steelers' defense and its best path to returning to being a top unit.

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast.

The Pittsburgh Steelers' offense has plenty of playmakers, but could their secret weapon be 12 personnel packages with Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington? Christopher Carter shows what he's learned from talking to Mike McCarthy, Freiermuth and Washington about the Steelers' offense. While many will focus on DK Metcalf and Germie Bernard, Chris feels the tight ends may end up being the group that dismantles defenses the most.

Also, Chris thinks the Steelers are going into overdrive to get Max Iheanachor ready for the regular season opener. Will he be ready? Or will Dylan Cook be the team's starting offensive tackle across from Troy Fautanu.

Finally, Chris shows his talk with Rayshawn Jenkins, and how the Steelers safeties look to be a physical unit. But will they be able to protect against the deep ball?

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast.

The Pittsburgh Steelers added weapons to their passing attack to help free up DK Metcalf for Aaron Rodgers. But will that work out the way they envisioned? Christopher Carter shows his back and forth with Rodgers after practice this week on how the team can better free up Metcalf from double-teams by opposing defenses. Part of that comes from a balanced plan that involves more targets to rookie Germie Bernard, veteran Michael Pittman Jr., and a renewed Roman Wilson. Also, Rodgers describes how Wilson has struggled as a route runner, but where the former Michigan speedster has improved in how he fits into the passing attack this year. Could their connection be a key to unlock the rest of the team? Finally, Chris details how 12 personnel packages continue to rise in their usage across the NFL. Could that be an extra weapon for Rodgers with Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington? Chris shows what Washington told him in an interview after practice this week, and how that could be a huge opportunity for Mike McCarthy to exploit -- which is something he did for the Dallas Cowboys in 2022.

Joey Porter Jr. still doesn’t have a new contract, and now he won’t commit to playing Week 1 without one. Is this a normal negotiation, or should Steelers fans be concerned?

Tyler Feldman, Wayne Gandy, Ben Bobick and Christopher Carter also debate Pittsburgh’s decision to keep four quarterbacks, evaluate the departures of Broderick Jones, Kaleb Johnson and Elandon Roberts, and deliver their early outlook for the Week 1 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.

Should the Steelers pay Porter before kickoff? And was keeping four quarterbacks the right move? Let us know in the comments.
