Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast.
As the Pittsburgh Steelers get ready for their preseason exhibition against the New York Jets, Christopher Carter has top players to watch who could shake up their roster. Among them are second-year quarterback Will Howard, Broderick Jones, Asante Samuel Jr., Kaleb Johnson and Brandon Smith. Howard's in a tough spot with Mason Rudolph looking closer to being cemented at QB2, but what can he do to win the job? Jones has improved throughout training camp and Dylan Cook hasn't locked up the starting offensive tackle job. Samuel has been a lockdown cornerback since the start of camp and could be a tough player to keep from starting. Meanwhile, Smith works to prove he's not just a practice squad player and Johnson fights to make the roster as the final running back. Also, Chris takes your questions on the Locked on Steelers call-in line. Can Jones play well enough to become a trade candidate? Does Samuel change the Joey Porter Jr. contract negotiations?

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast,, and is joined by Mike DeFabo of the Athletic.
The Pittsburgh Steelers announced that Will Howard would start in their preseason game against the New York Jets. Is this Howard's big chance to prove he's QB2 for the Steelers? Or just the chance to showcase him as trade bait for NFL teams? Christopher Carter and Mike DeFabo give their insight from watching Steelers training camp and talking to Mike McCarthy, Howard, and Drew Allar. Watch to see McCarthy describe the moments most important for the Steelers' quarterback evaluations as they develop both their young options. Chris and Mike also show what Allar thinks of the development process after interviewing him, and what chemistry can be expected of the Steelers' offense with so many key players missing from practice. DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. haven't practiced in weeks, and Aaron Rodgers looks settled on not playing in the preseason. Will they be able to smoothly run McCarthy's offense by the start of the regular season. Finally, Chris and Mike show a conversation with Steelers rookie safety Robert Spears-Jennings. He's been a starter for the defense throughout training camp, but what will the Steelers do at free safety? Jaquan Brisker hasn't practiced in weeks, while DeShon Elliott is only just now coming back from injury, and Jalen Ramsey has yet to touch the field.

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Nick Farabaugh at PennLive.com.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are getting closer to their second pre-season game, and Christopher Carter has his first 53-man roster projection. Can they keep both Will Howard and Drew Allar on the roster? Chris discusses his first roster projection with Nick Farabaugh as they figure out who Steelers have to prioritize in making their roster for the start of the regular season. How many receivers do they keep with Germie Bernard, Roman Wilson along with Ben Skoworonek and Kaden Wetjen? And with so many running backs fighting for spots, will the Steelers have to cut Kaleb Johnson, Eli Heidenreich, Riley Nowakowski, or all three? Which of the Steelers' rookies from their draft class make the squad? Chris and Nick explain why the Steelers must keep more defensive tackles and linebackers to keep up with Patrick Graham's front? Chris officially starts the Gabriel Rubio hype train, and explains why defensive backs might be the group the Steelers use to get around their roster construction issues.

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com.
The Pittsburgh Steelers concluded training camp Monday, so Christopher Carter and Alan Saunders give you their top winners of Saint Vincent College. The defensive line's dominance against the offensive line in the run game throughout camp highlighted how important Derrick Harmon will be this season, while Asante Samuel Jr. looked like a starter while filling in for Joey Porter Jr. at cornerback. Roman Wilson proved he deserves a chance as slot receiver for the offense, while Germie Bernard was the team's top rookie. Also, Chris and Alan rank how the Steelers' rookie draft class performed throughout training camp. Bernard was the best, but Daylen Everette was a pleasant surprise at cornerback, while Max Iheanachor looked promising despite missing several practices due to injury. Where did Drew Allar rank? And where does the current quarterback battle stand with Allar behind the battle between Mason Rudolph and Will Howard while Aaron Rodgers is the Steelers' obvious starter.

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast.
The Pittsburgh Steelers signed defensive tackle Keeanu Benton to a four-year $72 million extension that shows their commitment to the future of the defensive line. But does that new deal put the chance of keeping Joey Porter Jr.' long term in jeopardy? Christopher Carter breaks down why Benton got paid the way he did and what the Steelers might have to do if they want to sign Porter to an extension, especially after the big contract the Seattle Seahawks just gave Devon Witherspoon. Also, Chris gives his thoughts on the return of Elandon Roberts and what it means for Patrick Queen and the defense.

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast.
The Pittsburgh Steelers won their preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers 28-9 where their offensive young upstarts had strong debuts. All three quarterbacks Mason Rudolph, Will Howard and Drew Allar were efficient in executing Mike McCarthy's offense. While Rudolph's solid showing was expected, both Howard and Allar played in their first NFL appearance and passed their tests with flying colors. Christopher Carter gives what he thought was most impressive about the Steelers' young quarterbacks in their first performances on the field, as well as a conversation he had with Allar after the game. Also, Chris also goes over Germie Bernard's strong showing and what stood out about the rookie receiver's playmaking skills. Other players who impressed included Asante Samuel Jr., Daylen Everette, Robert Tonyan and Gabriel Rubio. But the Steelers weren't perfect in their preseason debut, either. Plenty of penalties and lack of discipline were seen, including big issues with the offensive line that allowed three sacks, plenty of pressures, and a penalty from Troy Fautanu that wiped out a touchdown. Do the Steelers have an offensive line issue?
