Locked On White Sox - Daily Podcast On The Chicago White Sox

The Sox reportedly still want to move Luis Robert Jr. before Opening Day but have no trade partner. The San Diego Padres reportedly will only trade Dylan Cease if they can get an offensive upgrade in the outfield and a young pitcher. The Chicago White Sox could help a contender in that area by offering Luis Robert Jr. and a pitcher from the depth they have to the Padres in a three-team deal with the third team getting Cease and the Sox getting the prospect return they desire.

Tune in to hear host Todd Welter's suggestion for how that could work.

Then prospect Chase Meidroth has been getting the recent starts at shortstop in spring training. This might be a hint that he wins the starting job.

Finally, the White Sox prospects play in a marquee matchup this Sunday against the Colorado Rockies in the Spring Breakout Showcase.

Baseball Isn't Boring's Courtney Finnicum was recently in Arizona checking out Chicago White Sox spring training. She goes over with host Todd Welter her surprise regarding the team not naming Colson Montgomery the Opening Day shortstop, the front office still motivated to trade Luis Robert Jr, who has been great in camp and who has not, and why Mike Clevinger on the roster is just gross.

The Chicago White Sox announced Colson Montgomery has been re-assigned to Triple A despite it feeling like the starting shortstop position being skewed in his favor. This is actually a good thing for one of the team's top prospects development, and not a major reason to be concerned about him--at least for now.

Host Todd Welter also tackles a lot of good that happened in yesterday's 10-3 victory including Martin Perez making his case to be the Opening Day starter. Finally, another publication gave the Sox farm system a rave review, however there should be caution when it comes to believing the hype because the organization struggles to develop players to have sustained success.

Colson Montgomery is battling another back problem and is still not back on the field despite the team downplaying the injury. Is it time to get concerned that this could become a long-term issue and another sign the Chicago White Sox should move him off shortstop?

Host Todd Welter discusses why the situation surrounding Montgomery could is another example of the Sox rushing a prospect who might need more development time and asking him to play a position his body might not be able to handle.

Then, Todd discusses who has gotten off to a hot start in spring training that needed it. Finally, top pitching prospects Noah Schultz and Hagen Smith threw yesterday in a spring training game. Todd goes over the hope they provide and if they should have gotten one more outing before the team demoted them to minor league camp earlier today.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale was on local sports talk radio station, 670 the Score, and discussed local billionaire Justin Ishbia's reportedly increasing his minority stake in the Chicago White Sox with the hope of eventually taking control of the franchise from current managing owner Jerry Reinsdorf. Nightengale went over how it likely will be a while before that happens.

Host Todd Welter discusses how that is just another frustration to have Reinsdorf and why he should just sell the team based on past comments regarding his dislike for certain parts of owning a baseball team.

Then Todd discusses general manager Chris Getz making a comment that he does not see any outfield help in the free agent despite that group getting ravaged by injuries. Todd goes over how that is organizational negligence.

Finally, it is Wayback Wednesday where Todd sort of does a retro segment by going over some past Sox like Eloy Jimenez, Yoan Moncada, and Tim Anderson struggling in spring training with their new teams while Jake Burger is thriving.

With Davis Martin, Martin Perez, and Jonathan Cannon vying for the Opening Day start, it looks like Martin's two strong spring training starts give him the early lead to be the Opening Day starter. Sean Burke was a dark horse but a shaky second start likely pushes him down to be the fourth starter. Plus, Jose Quintana signed with the Milwaukee Brewers, so there is no reunion on the Southside happening.

Then updated White Sox top 30 prospects are coming out. One thing is clear, the Sox have relied too much on other organizations to find talent for them, and it is another reason the Sox must get better in the draft and the international free agent market.

Is Luis Robert Jr. destined to join the Houston Astros? That is what Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller is suggesting. The issue is the Astros do not make for a good trade partner given how bad their farm system is.

With the White Sox's outfield depth challenged by injuries, including Michael A. Taylor's elbow inflammation, the team should explore options to bolster their lineup especially with Alex Verdugo and Stone Garrett available.

Finally, a lot of the promising prospects are shining in spring training which has been the one nice thing about the exhibition season.
