This episode kicks off a new series centered around the idea of what makes a good mom.
Pam Howard, parent coach and author of “Less Drama, More Mama,” sat down with me to talk about the nine parenting truths she outlines in her book to help moms avoid sabotaging our own success!
The great thing about both the book and the episode is that even if you're NOT a mom, this episode totally applies because these principles still apply to weight loss and to life.
Like, how to be present for the other people in our lives without taking on their feelings, and learning to process our own emotions instead of turning to that pint of ice cream.
As a matter of fact, that’s one of the truths in Pam’s book: feelings don’t need to be fixed, they need to be felt.
I mean, come on. IT’S SO GOOD.

So many of my clients just want to look good. BUT. Then they judge themselves for wanting to look good. They think it is vane. Maybe it is. But maybe vanity isn't bad. OR what if it wasn't vane to want to look good? We explore all of it here. You will want to listen to this episode and free yourself of any drama around "I shouldn't want to look good.". It is more than okay to want to look good. I teach you why it may even be some of the deepest work you do.

New Yummy Mummy Experience client, Carolyn, joined me to get coached about struggling with food cravings, changing her thought patterns, and setting goals with soul.
YES, you’re going to get so much out of this episode today to help you on your journey!
Carolyn is enjoying retirement between the two locales she calls home – California and Idaho – and is DONE struggling with her weight at this phase in her life. She’s ready to lose weight for the last time, and that’s exactly what she’s going to get in YMX.
Today’s episode is a sneak peek of the work we do in YMX when a Yum Mum faces an obstacle to their weight loss progress, and we dive in to solve it.
In Carolyn’s case, she was carrying around a specific thought that was creating a feeling of inadequacy:
“I don’t lose weight easily.”
Seems harmless enough on the surface, right? It might even seem like a fact. But the reality is it’s a sentence in Carolyn’s brain creating the feeling that she’s incapable of weight loss. And what does Carolyn (or any of us) want to do when she feels incapable? Give up.
We broke down exactly how our thoughts create our actions which then create our RESULTS. To get the results we want, we talked about using thoughts that DO serve us instead of ones that DON’T – no criticism or toxic positivity needed.
It’s time for a kind weight loss mindset. Listen in and you’ll hear more about:

This is your one-stop shop for setting a goal for the new year - especially if you want to crush that goal. If you are someone who has been turned off by words like "goal" or "resolution" but you still want to create amazing things in your life - this episode is for you! This will help you if you want to lose weight for the last time! The easy steps I promised are right here:
- Write down everything that you want and pepper in things that you want that you already have (create from an abundance mindset!)
- Pick one big thing from your list for your 2024 goal. Only one. Trust me!
- Write down your reasons as to why you want to achieve this goal, you have to make this juicy! Like really juicy! Go for 20! They have to move you, compel you, light you up!
- Write down exactly what you will do and not to do get there! This is your plan! You can change it if it’s not working - but only once a month - go all in on what your plan is for at least a month!
- Write your goal down every day, write a “why” that lights you up every day and then write anything you need to do on that day to get you there! Remember to put these in the first person, present tense with a deadline. (I am going to start calling these *alive-lines*!)

SUPER fun conversation to share with you today because new Yum Mum, Kitsy, joined me to get coached!
I sent an email out to my list (if you’re not on it yet, get on it - lauraconley.com) offering to coach one special client for this episode and Kitsy was a taker. You’re going to love our chat.
Living in Seattle, Kitsy isn’t your run-of-the-mill Yum Mum because she’s actually a great-grand-mum. At 79, she says she’s entering the best phase of her life yet, except for this one ongoing struggle…
Her weight. Specifically, hitting a plateau in her weight loss.
I can almost hear all the heads nodding along on that one!
Like so many of us, Kitsy played the diet yo-yo game for years, losing lots of weight at a time only to gain it back, plus more. As a new member of the Yummy Mummy Experience, she’s been implementing what she’s learned so far, but what gives with the plateau?
That’s exactly what we’re going to dig into.
In this episode, I asked Kitsy all about her current lifestyle and food protocol, then took all the nuances and specifics to give her personalized, one-on-one insights just for her. And the best part is, you get a real taste of what it’s like to be part of YMX and how it can work for you, too!

I talked a little bit about discomfort in episode 1, but I know you need to hear this, so I’m devoting this episode to talking about discomfort and what it means in your journey of losing weight for the last time.
Human brains are creations of duality. The “conscious mind,” the desire to use rational thought and self-improve, finds discomfort when things stay the same. The “unconscious mind” in the back of the brain, which exists solely to seek pleasure, avoid pain, and maximize its efficiency in doing so, finds discomfort in change — and it’s the reason why losing weight is so difficult.
Each of us must choose which discomfort we intend to face. Life coach Brooke Castillo says, “discomfort is the currency for your dreams. [It] is the discomfort that is required for us to change, to be in unfamiliar situations, to have our identity shifting, to be in a body that's thinner than we recognize.”
Think about it: if you’re going to experience discomfort either way, why not experience the discomfort that improves your quality of life?

This episode is for everyone who was brought up in diet culture – so, all of us.
A whole new crew of Yum Mums and I just kicked off the January Yummy Mummy Experience and I’ve been so filled with gratitude and excitement for these women because I know how YMX is going to change their lives.
YMX is specially designed to be THE program that doesn’t just teach you to lose weight, but lose weight for the last time.
Because if you’re like me, you’ve gained weight, and then lost weight, and then gained weight, and then lost weight. That was me – serial yo-yoer.
I was actually pretty good at losing weight. I just sucked at maintaining it because nobody taught me how.
But what I know now – and what everyone in YMX learns, too – is that healing your relationship with your body and with food is FOR LIFE. It’s a lifelong practice, and a forever relationship with maintenance.
But the good news is that it’s maintenance you actually want to keep doing.

My VERY special guest today is my yoga teacher and good friend, Caley A. We sat down for an amazing conversation about yoga nidra and how it can play a role in weight loss.
On its surface, yoga nidra might seem like just another stress relief technique, but Caley is going to walk us through the science that makes it really potent.
As the instructor behind the Academy of Yogic Sleep, Caley has been featured on major platforms like Alo Yoga, Beachbody, and Mindbodygreen. She’s also MY yoga teacher, which makes this an episode particularly close to my heart.
Because of all the deep thought work we do in coaching, we spend a lot of time in our heads. I knew it was time to bring yoga nidra to the Yum Mums, and like Kismet, Caley and I reconnected just in time to collab on this episode.
Caley’s jam is to bring more depth to the mind-body connection, and this is EXACTLY why this conversation is so important for your weight loss journey.
Yoga nidra created profound effects in MY life, especially postpartum, and I attribute my yoga nidra practice to being able to repair my nervous system (which was jacked, y’all) and be present for my kids during those rough postpartum days.
During our chat, Caley noted that yoga nidra has been proven to boost neuroplasticity by up to 50%, making it one of the most powerful tools for LITERALLY changing your mind.
Yall. It’s so good.
I’m so stoked for Caley to be on the pod so you can benefit from all the AMAZING knowledge she has to offer.
