  • Is Your Teen Soiling the Nest? Here Are 5 Tools to Help You Get Through It

Is your teen a year, a month, or just a week or two away from going off to college? Are they acting disrespectful, distant, or combative? Are they slamming doors or rolling their eyes? Maybe they're picking fights with their siblings or balking at rules that have never bothered them. If so, they might be soiling the nest, and you might be losing your mind. But don't give up. There is hope!

In today's episode, I talk all about soiling the nest: what it is, why kids do it, and how we can handle it as parents. I'll give you tips on how you can shift your mindset and 5 tools you can use to make it through this challenging season.

  • People-Pleasing: Nice or Manipulative?

Are you a people pleaser? Do you put the happiness of others above yourself, even when it leads to anxiety, burnout, and worse? If so, there's help, friend!

In today's episode, I talk all about people-pleasing: what it is, why we do it, and how it's actually manipulative, not nice. But, I don't just leave you there. I give you the tools you need to help break the cycle and learn how to say yes (and no) to the right things.

And, in today's Midlife Moment, I talk about midlife birthdays and how we all need to stop waiting on someone else to celebrate us and learn how to throw our own party.

  • Stop Trying to Control People - How “Manuals” Make Us Miserable

Do you have unwritten manuals or scripts for the people in your life? Admit it, you've probably thought more than once that you know exactly how your husband, children, or boss should act, and if they would just do that, then you could all be happy.

In today's episode, we'll talk about the scripts/manuals we have for the people in our lives and why we have them. Hint: Getting others to act the way that we want them to is not the path to happiness. Taking radical responsibility for our own needs is.

And in today's Midlife Moment, we talk all about health in midlife and ALL. THE. THINGS. we are supposed to be worrying about. Friends, it's a lot. Don't let it overwhelm you.

  • How to Get Out of Fight or Flight

You are learning to take your thoughts captive and are doing a great job working on your mindset, so why is your body still stressed out and stuck in fight, flight, or freeze?

In this week's episode, I share how I finally made the mind-body connection and learned how working on your thoughts and emotions is only half of the battle. You have to work on your physical body, too. I share all the tips and tricks I learned to calm my central nervous system and get out of fight or flight.

In this week's Midlife Moment, I talk about something that has been "mid" as long as I have been an adult: figuring out what to make for dinner.

  • How I Stopped Trying to Control the Uncontrollable

Are you trying to control ALL THE THINGS in your life? Do you have a white-knuckled grip on your children's lives, too? If so, you're not alone.

On today's episode I share a bit more of my backstory, and explain why I spent years trying to control the uncontrollable. I'll also talk about how I eventually learned to stop trying to control everything and everybody in my life and the freedom that came with that.

In this week's Midlife Moment, I talk about my hands and ask the age-old question, "What are my mother's hands doing on the end of my arms?!" Good times!

  • What Stories are You Telling Yourself? How to Re-write the Stories that aren't Working for You

We all have painful stories we tell, about ourselves, about our relationships, about our lives. Why? Maybe it's out of habit, maybe it's because we have been a victim, or maybe it's because sometimes we like to play the role of the martyr.

No matter the reason, it's time to let go of the painful stories that are not serving us and learn to re-tell our stories in ways that do. I'll give you some useful tools for doing just that. I'll also tell you a painful story that I believed about myself and my marriage for 20 years.

And in the Midlife Moment, I'll tell a somewhat embarrassing story about night sweats and hotel air conditioners. Come listen while I overshare... unless you are a male. Then please don't.

  • 6 Ways to Manage the Emotions that are Managing You

You've heard you need to process your emotions, but what does that even mean? Well, what if I told you that emotions aren't problems to be fixed but feelings to be felt?

Today we're going to talk about just that: how you can learn to lean into your emotions so that you can process them and get them out, versus letting them hang around and get stuck in your body. I'll share some tools, tips, and tricks I've learned through life coaching to help you manage the emotions that are managing you.

And in the Midlife Moment, I'll share something in perimenopause you might not be ready for: rage. It's real friends.

  • Decision Overwhelm - How to Ditch the Drama and Make Decision-Making Easier

Why is decision-making in midlife so hard? And, why does deciding what to cook for dinner every single day of my life make me want to take to the bed?

In this episode we talk about all things decisions, including:

    • Decision Fatigue - What is it and why are we all suffering from it,
    • Types of Decisions and how to make them,
    • Why we keep "trying" to make some decisions without success, and
    • How we can remove the brain drama to simplify decision-making.

I also give an example of how I walk a client through making a difficult decision, which is one of my favorite things to do as a life coach. And, I remind you that you don't need to spiritualize every decision. You can trust the mind and reason that God gave you to make the best decisions for your life. In the midlife moment, I talk about one of the harder decisions I've had to make in midlife, when to let our family dog  go.

  • How Negative Thoughts Create Pain — and What to Do About It

Welcome to the first episode of Loving that Midlife, a podcast for women navigating the sometimes beautiful - sometimes challenging - season of midlife. I'm your host, certified Christian life coach, Lori Buck.

In this inaugural episode, I share a little of my journey into podcasting, as well as talk about life coaching and the power of mindset to shape our lives. We may think our circumstances are causing us pain, but often it's our thoughts about our circumstances that cause us the most pain.

That's why it's so important to "take every thought captive" and align it with God's truth, and I'm here to help and encourage you to do just that.

We're just getting started so join me as we learn how to change our mindset and start Loving that Midlife…even when it just feels mid.
