MacKenzie Martin: Championing the Inclusive Company Culture [IEP 116]

Listen Later

SPECIAL NOTE FROM AMANDA AND VICKIE: This episode was originally scheduled for publication on January 14th, but had to be shifted in the line-up due to circumstances beyond our control. We hope you love this conversation with MacKenzie Martin as much as we did! Enjoy!

Promoting diversity and inclusion in both the hiring process and the workplace is the focus of today’s podcast.

Amanda and Vickie sit down with MacKenzie Martin, CEO of Undoing, an HR consulting firm that trains leaders and upper management of businesses in developing an inclusive company culture.

Her services help to build a more inclusive society by providing a space for that communication between the employer and employee and helps people with disabilities or other diverse backgrounds to have access to jobs in the same way that everybody else does.

Listen in to this fascinating glimpse of behind-the-scenes implementation of HR diversity programs.

Show Highlights:

  • MacKenzie shares her evolution in Human Resources from representing the employer to representing the employee in the workplace.
  • Her consulting firm audits new start-ups for inclusion and diversity programs, and also offers general HR help, as well.
  • She helps businesses create these diversity programs, audits their systems and work-flows, and assists with promoting understanding of how to create a better inclusive work culture.
  • Amanda addresses the recent push to get rid of the Wage Waiver, a part of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and the Sub-Minimum Wage Certificate Program, which allows employers to pay a reduced minimum wage to individuals with disabilities.
  • We need to better support children and individuals in their early education and support adults in the workplace.
  • Accessibility issues are a real issue.
  • MacKenzie divulges her personal story which influenced her passion for promoting understanding.
  • The conversations around race, mental health, and stigmas in the workplace are not easy to have, but they’re necessary.
  • Training for an inclusive company culture.
  • In so many industries, there’s no training for management.
  • MacKenzie’s goal is to see people allowed to be exactly who they are in the workplace.
