Mazu Statues Ride Vintage Train for Festival

Dozens of Mazu statues took a special trip to New Taipei.

Mazu is a sea goddess.

Many people believe she protects (保護) fishermen and others who need her help.

There are many Mazu temples (媽祖廟) in Taiwan.

And many will hold a pilgrimage (遶境、朝聖) for Mazu.

But this past weekend, 25 Mazu statues went on a very different pilgrimage.

They took a train!

It's all part of the "2021 Northern Taiwan Mazu Cultural Festival".

The festival was delayed (延後) because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and was held this past weekend.

The 25 Mazu statues came from different temples around northern Taiwan.

And the statues were taken on a special train.

The train was pulled by a steam locomotive, built by Japanese engineers in the 1930s.

台鐵局CK124蒸汽火車載北台灣25間媽祖廟的媽祖和信徒在平溪線遶境。

The train stopped at each station along the Pingxi line.

Then it arrived at Shifen station, and the statues were placed in Cheng An Temple.

They will stay there until January 16th.

And visitors can go there to pray and ask for blessings (祈福).

A special giant sky lantern was also made for the festival.

The lantern has a picture of Mazu on it, and it's over 6 meters tall.

That's more than 2 floors high!

The 25 Mazu statues and the giant Mazu sky lantern will be on display until this Sunday.

Hungry Badger Finds Roman Treasure

Finding treasure is usually something archeologists (考古學家) or treasure hunters do.

But in Spain, a hungry badger (獾) has taken on the job!

More than 200 ancient Roman coins were found near a wild badger's den.

考古團隊在西班牙山上的野獾巢口發現埋在地底多年的羅馬時期硬幣。

Experts think the badger was looking for food around its den.

Badgers have short wide bodies, and very strong claws.

They eat many different things, including worms, eggs, fruit, birds, and even rabbits.

And archeologists think the badger was probably digging in dirt for worms and bugs when it found the coins.

But it was not interested in the coins, and left the pieces in front of its den.

Experts think the coins were used between the 3rd and 5th centuries AD.

研究人員說這些是西元3至5世紀的羅馬時期硬幣。

They believe some of these coins were made in Turkey and Greece.

The experts say it's probably the most Roman coins ever found in northern Spain.

"Squid Game" Actor O Yeong Su Wins Golden Globe

A "Squid Game" actor has become the first Korean actor to win a Golden Globe.

O Yeong-su won the gold statue for his supporting role as "Player 001" in the hit (非常受歡迎的) Netflix show.

It's also the first time a Korean TV show or actor has been nominated (被提名) and won a Golden Globe.

在"魷魚遊戲"飾演001號的，韓國資深演員吳永秀，拿下金球獎電視類最佳男配角，也是史上第一位獲獎的韓國演員。

"Squid Game" is about a group of people who really need money.

They play many children's games to win money and prizes.

But the games are dangerous and often deadly (致命的)。

The show was a huge hit for Netflix.

But all this fame (名氣) is not easy for the 77-year-old South Korean star.

O said in a TV interview, that his life has changed a lot since "Squid Game".

He says now when he goes to cafes and other places, he is self-conscious (不自在).

He says he tries to calm down, and being a famous actor can be hard too.
