  • Business Isn't Garden of Eden - EP 203

People love to romanticize business as if it were some perfect little paradise. Plant the right seeds, post some motivational quotes, hang a nice sign, and boom, it's supposed to flourish. But I'm here to tell you, that's a lie. Your business is not the Garden of Eden. It's not self-sustaining, peaceful, or picturesque. It's more like farming in a war zone, unpredictable, hostile, and grueling. If you want your business to grow, you'd better be ready to break your back, get your hands in the dirt, and work like your life depends on it, because in a way, it does.

In this episode, I walk through three lessons every real entrepreneur needs to learn. First, pull the weeds. That means removing toxic team members, broken systems, and anything else that is choking the life out of your progress, no matter how uncomfortable it may be. Second, prune the plant. You can't do everything, and sometimes even good ideas have to go if they're pulling you in the wrong direction. And third, plow it under. If the foundation is no longer working, you need the courage to tear it all up and rebuild stronger. These aren't just business strategies; they are survival tactics.

I'm not here to sell you a fantasy. I'm here to tell you the truth: building something meaningful is hard. You need grit, humility, patience, and resilience. You'll face droughts, pests, and storms, and you'll keep planting anyway. Real entrepreneurs aren't royalty, and they're not influencers. They're farmers. And if you keep showing up and doing the work, weed, prune, plow, repeat, you'll eventually harvest something no one can take from you.

  • Vulnerability and Leadership - EP 203

Today's episode is a deep dive into a topic that's often misunderstood in leadership—vulnerability. Not the kind where you're crying on camera for likes or sharing every trauma you've ever had on Instagram, but the kind that builds trust, inspires your team, and keeps your business moving forward. I share why emotional oversharing isn't the same as being vulnerable, and how real leadership is about carrying the weight, not spreading it. If you want to lead people well, you have to offer strength, not confusion, and vulnerability, when used with intention, is one of the strongest tools you can wield.

Alongside that, we explore some personal stories, including a powerful one about a man who paid for Amanda's beauty school education, and how that one act of generosity created a lifelong mission of paying it forward. We talk about how your own personal development (and even your communication quirks) can be shared in a way that's honest and constructive without undermining your credibility as a leader. I also unpack the difference between public-facing leadership and private struggle, and how keeping the right things behind the scenes can actually protect your team and your culture.

  • When Money Doesn't Motivate - EP 202

In this episode, I'm pulling back the curtain. I've built the businesses, hit the numbers, bought the cars, the house, the watch—and I'm on pace for eight figures in personal income. But here's the part no one tells you: sometimes I wake up and feel nothing. Not because I don't love the game, but because once you've "made it," the hunger changes. You're not chasing anymore—you're maintaining. And that gets dangerous.

Success without purpose becomes pressure. You stop being driven by vision and start being driven by fear—fear of losing what you built. That's not freedom. That's a golden cage. I had to ask myself real questions: What do I actually care about? What's worth suffering for? Because if you don't know, you'll burn out doing too much of what doesn't matter.

If your fire is flickering, don't ignore it. Dig in. Get honest. Because the real win isn't just building something big—it's building something that means something. Otherwise, you'll look back and realize you climbed the wrong mountain, with no one to celebrate with at the top.

  • Culture Is Driven By Mission - EP 201

In this episode of the Spinoso Podcast, Amanda and I kick things off with a little fun—trying to come up with a nickname for her that doesn't sound like we're in crisis mode ("Mayday" is definitely off the table). But from there, we get into something I was seriously fired up about: a conversation I had with a clinic owner in Houston who was struggling to get her team motivated. She said her biggest headache was "her people," not because they were bad, but because she couldn't get them to buy in. And I get it—it's a problem a lot of business owners face, but one that stems from something deeper: a lack of mission, vision, and culture.

We dive into what it really takes to build a culture that drives performance. Spoiler alert: it's not about ping pong tables or bonuses—it's about values. I talk about how Genesis was built on "Dig Deep and Act with Integrity," and how we hire, fire, and bonus based on those values. We touch on everything from John Maxwell's advice ("Don't send pigeons to flight school") to my own take on what it means to build great people, not just find them. And yes, I get into what happens when you try to fix culture problems with money alone—hint: it never works.

Whether you've got one clinic or fifteen, if you're struggling with team alignment, this episode is your blueprint. Amanda and I talk about systems, incentives, leadership habits, and how we created Genesis University to train our people the right way. We also share tactical ideas, like peer-led learning and core value nominations, to spark buy-in across your team. If you want a team that's not just showing up but fired up—this one's for you. Oh, and don't forget—DM us your vote on Amanda's nickname. Keep it G-rated, savages.

  • You Need The Spiral Mindset - EP 200

In this episode, I talk about something that hit me hard: the idea that growth is not linear, it's spiral. Inspired by Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí and his masterpiece, the Sagrada Família, I break down how his spiral-based design philosophy mirrors the path of entrepreneurship. We do not move in perfect lines. We loop back. We revisit old challenges. But every time we return, we rise a little higher, with more clarity, more precision, more grit. I share what this realization has meant for my own journey—how I've had to relearn lessons, rebuild systems, and refine my thinking over and over again.

Just like Gaudí, you might not finish everything you start. You might leave some work unfinished. But if you build with intention—if you build in spirals—you'll create something that lasts far beyond your own timeline. This is not just about business. It's about legacy. It's about building something so beautiful and powerful that people feel it long after you're gone. So if you're frustrated with your pace or feel like you're circling the same problems, tune in. Because you're not stuck—you're spiraling upward.

  • Deep Questions About Business and Life FT. Vaughn Kohler (PART 2) - EP 199

In this episode, we are talking about something that impacts every part of your business but often goes unnoticed. It is the connection between environment and behavior. I have been thinking a lot about how much of what people do, whether it is booking a service, joining a team, or staying loyal, comes down to how they feel in the moment. Their surroundings, the vibe, the small details all play a massive role in shaping outcomes.

That idea sparked a deeper conversation with Amanda and Vaughn. We talked about how simple changes like painting a wall, adjusting your check-in process, or removing visual clutter can influence customer perception and drive better results. It is not just about aesthetics, it is about psychology. We also dug into team dynamics, how to align roles with people's personal goals, and why creating a sense of ownership leads to better performance and loyalty.

This episode goes beyond surface level strategy. We reflect on the value of kindness, the power of encouragement, and what it really means to do the right thing, especially when no one is watching. Whether you are leading a team or just trying to grow a more intentional business, this conversation is packed with insights, stories, and practical takeaways to help you serve better, lead better, and feel better doing it.

  • Are You Not Entertained? - EP 198

There's a scene in Gladiator where Maximus destroys his enemies in the arena, throws his sword, and roars to the stunned crowd, "Are you not entertained?" That moment hits different. He wasn't performing—he was fighting for something real while everyone else watched for blood. And honestly, that's how I feel sometimes as an entrepreneur. There's this constant pressure to be loud, to go viral, to entertain. And sometimes, I just want to scream the same thing.

I'm not in this game to dance for likes. Yes, I run a personal brand. Yes, I post content. But I do it with purpose and detachment. I'm not chasing vanity metrics—I'm running real companies with real teams that generate real revenue. This isn't about clout. It's about building something that lasts. I want to help others avoid the landmines I've stepped on. But I refuse to let social media dictate my value.

Because let's be clear—content doesn't build wealth. Operations do. Margins do. Team culture does. You want to impress me? Don't show me your reels. Show me your systems. Show me your leadership. Social media will trick you into thinking applause means success. But I've seen too many people with followers and no cash flow. If you're doing this for attention instead of execution, you're not building—you're just performing. And this isn't the Coliseum.

  • Deep Questions About Business and Life FT. Vaughn Kohler (PART 1) - EP 197

Today's episode is something different. It's raw, unscripted, and personal. I'm joined by my co-host, Amanda May, and our guest, Vaughn Kohler, for a conversation that starts with middle school nicknames and ends up diving deep into emotional intelligence, leadership, dating, trauma, and even AI companions. It's hilarious, it's human, and yeah—it gets a little weird.

We discuss what it means to lead people, what makes someone magnetic in business and life, and how humor, self-awareness, and community play significant roles in both personal healing and professional growth. There are moments of insight, moments of vulnerability, and moments where we can't stop laughing—because sometimes the best leadership lessons come wrapped in ridiculous stories. We touch on stretch marks, Planned Parenthood STD tests, childhood bullying, and what it takes to connect in a disconnected world.

We share the stuff that shaped us, the things that humbled us, and the practices that keep us grounded. So if you're building something meaningful, navigating the mess of leadership, or just need to laugh at how weird and beautiful this whole journey is, this episode is for you.

  • Everything Connected Take Action - EP 196

Welcome to The Spinoso Podcast. I'm Dr. Alex Spinoso, and while I've built multiple businesses into the eight- and nine-figure range, this podcast isn't about theory or fluff. It's about what I've actually done—what worked, what failed, and what it really takes to lead, scale, and live with purpose. If you're in the arena—building something, leading something, or betting everything on yourself—then this space is for you.

In this episode, I take you behind the scenes of how I got here. From med school and a failed scrub company to launching Genesis Lifestyle Medicine and investing in companies now worth hundreds of millions—it's all connected. None of it was linear. None of it was clean. But the right people, decisions, and failures added up in ways I couldn't see at the time. Even the total flops taught me something that paid off later. This is the real story—the one that doesn't look like a straight line but makes perfect sense when you zoom out.

I also share why none of this happens in a vacuum. You can't do it alone. I wouldn't be here without my wife, my team, and the people who believed in me before I fully saw it myself. If you're in the middle of a mess, unsure how it all adds up—this episode is your reminder. Keep moving. The momentum builds when you act. The connection comes after the decision. And one day you'll look back and realize, this was the moment that changed everything.

  • The Discipline of Reinvention - EP 195

Today's episode is all about reinvention. Not the one-time, flash-in-the-pan kind—but the ongoing, disciplined commitment to becoming someone better, bolder, and more effective in life and business. I showed up ready for this one because reinvention has been my reality more times than I can count. We're talking about grieving old versions of ourselves, letting go of outdated labels, and embracing what it takes to evolve. Whether you're leading a business, navigating personal change, or just waking up to the fact that what used to work no longer does—this episode is for you.

We also get real about the uncomfortable truth: reinvention requires sacrifice. Sometimes that means cutting ties with people who hold you back, stepping down from roles that no longer serve your growth, or learning new skills from scratch—whether it's sales, marketing, or language. Reinvention isn't glamorous. It's gritty. It's doing whatever it takes, whether that's sitting at the front desk, rebuilding your team, or going back to the basics because your future depends on it. And if you've ever felt behind, trust me—you're not. The people you're comparing yourself to might just have a 10-year head start.

At the end of the day, if you're not growing, you're dying. And if you're not actively reinventing, you're waiting for circumstances to force your hand. In this episode, I challenge you to audit yourself, ask for real feedback, and get brutally honest about what's working—and what's not. Reinvention isn't optional. It's the cost of leadership. So grab a notebook, because we're going all in on what it looks like to evolve—intentionally, unapologetically, and repeatedly.
