Hi! Are you looking for something?”
客: “No, I’m just browsing.”(見てるだけです)
Can I help you with anything?”
客:
・“I’m good for now, thanks.”
・“After you.”(どうぞ)
・“I’ll wait for the next one.”(次のに乗ります)
・“Sorry about that!”(ごめんなさいね)
Thanks so much. I really appreciate it.”
・“Here you go. Thanks again.”
💡「Here’s your tip.」

① “Can you…?” より “Could you…?”
❌ “Can you give me a napkin?”
✅ “Could you give me a napkin, please?”
A: Excuse me. Could you bring me a menu, please?
B: Of course! I’ll be right back.
❌ “Could you give me a glass of water?”
✅ “Could I have a glass of water, please?”
A: Could I have the soup of the day and a glass of iced tea, please?
B: Certainly. I’ll bring that right over.
この “Could I have…”
✅ “Would it be possible to…”
✅ “Is it okay if I…”
A: Would it be possible to reschedule our meeting to Friday?
B: Yes, that should work. Thanks for letting me know.
A: Is it okay if I use this seat?
B: Sure, go ahead!
❌ “Give me a coffee, please.”
✅ “Could I have a coffee, please?”
❌ “I want a table by the window, please.”
✅ “Could I have a table by the window, please?”
✅ “Would it be possible to have a table by the window?”

✔️ Could you say that again, please?
✔️ I’m sorry, I didn’t catch that. Could you repeat it?
A: “The meeting has been rescheduled to Friday.”
B: “I’m sorry, I didn’t catch that. Could you repeat it?”
✔️ What was that?
A: “I finally got Taylor Swift tickets!”
B: “What was that? Did you say Taylor Swift?!”
③ Neutral(どの場面でも使える)
✔️ I’m sorry? ↗️
✔️ Excuse me? ↗️
✔️ Pardon? ↗️
使うなら“I’m sorry?”
A: “The total is seventy-four dollars and fifty cents.”
❌ Say again? / Again?
❌ Come again?
❌ What?
A: “I just moved to Boston last week.”

(×)Hey! Can I get the check?
(〇)Excuse me. Could I get the check, please?
Hello, how are you today?
Hi, how are you doing?
A: Hey, how’s it going?
B: Pretty good! You?
👉“Hey”
A: Hey, do you have a minute? I need your help with something.
B: Sure! What’s up?
A: Hey, do you know what time the meeting starts?
B: Yeah, it’s at 2 p.m.
ただし、職場でもフォーマルな関係や目上の人には “Excuse me” や “Hi, could I ask you something?”
✔️ “Hi, I’m Yoshiko.”
✔️ “You can call me Yoshi.”(ニックネームを伝える時に)
A: Hi, I’m Michael Johnson.
B: Nice to meet you. You can call me Mike.
④. “Nice to meet you” の使い方
初めまして、と言いたい時、学校で習った “How do you do?” 代わりにNice to meet you.
✔️ 初対面の別れ際に “it was nice to meet you.”
✔️ “Nice to see you again.”
✔️ “Good to see you.”
✔️ 普段は “See you.” や “See ya.” が自然
✔️ Talk to you later!
A: I’ve got to go. Talk to you later!
B: See ya!

🟦 Part 1: Intermediate Level(中級)
Let’s talk about something delicious: American food! 🍕🍟🍩
Many people think American food is all junk food…
But let me tell you — American junk food is delicious!
Chips are to die for. There are so many kinds — spicy, cheesy, sour cream and onion... They’re totally addictive. And the bags? They’re enormous! I always feel a little guilty when I finish a whole one — but it happens. 😅
Now let’s talk about burgers. Burgers here are juicy and full of flavor, much better than I ever imagined. Steaks are big and bold; they’re different from Japanese wagyu but still very tasty. And bagels? They’re a whole new experience. New York bagels are crispy on the outside and chewy inside, and they really changed how I think about bagels.
There are so many great restaurants across the country. In New York, you can find everything from Italian food to authentic sushi. Washington D.C. is famous for its delicious fried chicken and soul food. And Philadelphia? You have to try a Philly cheesesteak! It’s packed with thin-sliced beef, onions, and melted cheese — so satisfying!
Once you start exploring American food, it’s hard to stop because food is such a fun way to experience the culture, and there’s always something new to try.
Now, let’s move on to the advanced version — I’ll tell a similar story with more natural expressions and faster rhythm. Ready? Let’s go!
🟨 Part 2: Advanced Level(上級)
Alright, time for a more advanced take — still all about American food!
I’m a foodie, which means I don’t just eat to survive; I eat to enjoy and experience culture through food. The U.S. food scene is much more than just burgers and fries.
But let’s start with junk food. Although “junk food” sometimes gets a bad reputation, I have to say some of it is crazy delicious.
Let’s talk about chips. Yes, potato chips. They might sound simple, but in the U.S., they’re next-level. There are endless varieties: classic salted, barbecue, sour cream and onion, dill pickle, jalapeño, cheddar and sour cream — you name it. Some are kettle-cooked for that extra crunch, and the portion sizes? Absolutely massive. It’s the kind of snack that starts as “just a few” and turns into “how did I finish the whole bag?”
And then burgers — a well-made American burger is like a masterpiece. A toasted brioche bun, a perfectly grilled patty, crispy bacon, melted cheddar, caramelized onions, and a special sauce… when done right, it’s pure magic.
Steak in America might not be wagyu, but it definitely has its own charm. When grilled to perfection and seasoned simply with salt, pepper, and maybe some garlic butter, it becomes a hearty and comforting dish that satisfies deeply. As for bagels, especially in New York, they deserve their own category in my opinion. Unlike the soft, bread-like bagels you might know, real New York bagels are chewy and dense. They are often served with thick cream cheese and smoked salmon, completely changing your expectations about what a bagel can be.
And the restaurants! There are so many amazing spots that one episode isn’t enough to cover them all. In New York, you’ll find world-class Italian restaurants, handmade ramen shops, and authentic Mexican restaurants. Washington D.C. offers Southern cuisine like crispy fried chicken, cornbread, and mac and cheese. The iconic Philadelphia’s Philly cheesesteak is a beloved classic — thinly sliced beef, grilled onions, and melted cheese all stuffed into a soft roll make it an unforgettable experience. This is a basic introduction the food in the USA. Hope you enjoy the delicious experience!

• “This cake is so soft and moist.”
• “The soup warmed me up.”
• “The coffee has a rich, deep aroma.”
Today’s treat diary 🍓
• I love the nutty flavor of this coffee.
• “I had a cup of hot cocoa. It was sweet and comforting.”
This morning ☕️
• “My toast was crispy and the jam was tangy and fresh.”
Dinner today was light but satisfying. The miso soup reminded me of home.
I tried a new bakery. The croissant was flaky and buttery — it made me smile.

Situation①
Server: Hi! What can I get you?
Customer: I’ll have this American Breakfast.
Server: How would you like your eggs? Scrambled or sunny side up?
Customer: What’s sunny side up?
Server: It’s cooked on one side, and the yolk stays runny.
Customer: Oh, I see. Sunny side up, please.
Server: Would you like fries, hash browns, or fruits?
Customer: Hash browns, please.
Server: Bacon, sausage, or links?
Customer: What is links?
Server: They are long and thin sausages.
Customer: I see. I’ll take sausage.
卵の焼き方:scrambled(スクランブル)、sunny side up(片面焼き)、over easy(両面焼き)などが一般的。
What’s sunny side up?” 聞き取れなければ “Could you repeat that, please?”(もう一度言ってもらえますか?) でOK。
Situation②
Customer: This cheeseburger with bacon and salad, please.
Server: How would you like it cooked?
Customer: What do you mean?
Server: I mean the meat—well-done, medium, or medium rare?
Customer: Oh I see. Medium please.
Server: What kind of dressing would you like? We have ranch, Caesar, balsamic vinaigrette, honey mustard, and blue cheese.
Customer: Could you repeat that slowly?
Server: Sure. Ranch, Caesar, balsamic vinaigrette, honey mustard, blue cheese.
Customer: Which one do you recommend?
Server: Blue cheese, if you like strong flavor.
Customer: Ok. That sounds good.
Server: Great! Would you like your dressing on the side?
Customer: Yes, please. Thanks!
Situation③
Customer: Do you have gluten-free bread?
Server: Yes. Is that a requirement or a preference?
Customer: What do you mean?
Server: Are you allergic to gluten, or is it just a preference?
Customer: It’s a preference.
Server: Got it. There’s some flour in the soup—is that okay?
Customer: That’s fine.
**requirement(必要条件)とpreference(好み)**を区別するのは、食物アレルギーにおいて非常に大事!
requirement(必要) なのか、preference(好み) なのかを聞かれることがあります。
* Gluten-free(グルテンフリー)
* Dairy-free(乳製品なし)
* Nut allergy(ナッツアレルギー)

⸻
① Hi, can I get a [menu item], please?
You: Hi, can I get a medium iced coffee, please?
Speaker: Cream and sugar?
You: Just cream, no sugar, please.
② Can I substitute the fries with salad?
You: I’ll have the cheeseburger combo.
Speaker: Would you like fries with that?
You: Can I substitute the fries with salad?
Speaker: Sure, we have garden or Caesar salad.
You: Garden, please.
③ Sorry, could you say that again, please?
Speaker: Would you like to upsize that to a large?
You: Sorry, could you say that again, please?
Speaker: Would you like to upsize it?
You: No, thank you.
