Identity theft isn't something most of us think about until it happens to us or someone close to us. Having your identity stolen is a scary violation. It's even worse when it's someone you love.
In this show, my guest is unfortunately very familiar with identity theft. Axton Betz-Hamilton is an Assistant Professor of Consumer Affairs at South Dakota State University. Her research focuses on financial abuse within families, including familial identity theft and elder family financial exploitation. She's the author of The Less People Know About Us: A Mystery of Betrayal, Family Secrets, and Stolen Identity, which received the 2020 Edgar Award for Best Fact Crime.
She is sharing the story behind her book and personal experience as a victim of familial identity theft.

J.D. Roth is an accidental personal-finance expert. In this episode, we're discussing taking steps to build your best financial life. And my guest knows a thing or two about that.
For many years, J.D. was a typical American consumer and more than $35,000 in debt to show for it. In 2006, he started writing at GetRichSlowly.org in an effort to document his progress as he dug out of debt and learned to build wealth.
Today, he's debt-free. J.D. is dedicated to helping others master their money -- and their lives. And he hopes one day to meet Taylor Swift.
In this show, J.D. and I talk about:
Plus a whole bunch more.
Today's game time is my favorite. It was fun to have a game that matches the guest perfectly. I can't wait for everyone to hear the results!

Moving is the way the military rolls. It's part of the job and we all know it. But sometimes it sucks. Picking up your life and family to move to not only a new city but an entirely different state or country is a lot. It will test your marriage, parenting, and packing skills all at once. The good news is, there's help out there to make the experience a little more enjoyable. And even better, there's now some free PCS help.
In this show, my guest is a fellow military spouse and MFAN board member. Kellie Artis is the COO of MILLIE, a resource, and service to help the military community through their entire PCS journey.
