Between the hair appointments, facials, pedicures, and lash extensions, finding the right beauty professionals to partner with and keep you looking your best is no easy task. Thankfully, I’ve tapped three incredible members of the Naked Beauty community to share their pro-tips on how to build out that perfect roster of beauty MVPs. Tune in as I sit down with The Cut’s Asia Milia Ware for her take on Southern vs. New York beauty culture and gatekeeping beauty professionals; Paris-based hairstylist Ciara Costenoble on the power of speaking up when beauty treatments don’t feel right; and Digital Creator Ishea Brown on her journey to finding beauty treatments as a Black Seattle-transplant.

One of Naked Beauty’s favorite mother-daughter duos, Hannah and Sherry Bronfman, are back on the pod just in time for Mother’s Day! Having migrated from the South Side of Chicago in the 1960s, Hannah’s mom Sherry gracefully thrust herself into the New York City scene of dance, modeling, and theater. And over the past decade, Hannah has been building her career as one of the most recognizable names in wellness. Tune in as they sit down together to reflect on the parallels between their journeys as mothers, the beauty lessons they’ve taught one another, the value of learning to love your body and Blackness at a young age, old-school beauty hacks, self-care treatments, and more. Enjoy!

Navigating your career isn’t always a linear path but if there’s one thing my Mom has taught me it’s to know your worth. My Mom, Jerri DeVard, has truly mastered building the career and future that she always imagined. And her influence on my own ambition to create what I want to see in the world - this podcast included - cannot be understanded. Tune in to revisit my chat with her from 2021, where we sat down to discuss her journey as a senior marketing executive in corporate America (including her job at Revlon!), advocating for yourself in the workplace, founding the Black Executive CMO Alliance (BECA), and so much more.

While corporations are a large part of the puzzle when it comes to the growth of sustainable products and practices, our role as consumers - especially within the world of beauty - remains critical. Tune in as I sit down with content creator Jhánneu Roberts, who is thriving in her pursuit to address sustainability from the perspective of a Black woman, and Jayme Jenkins and Jessica Stevenson, the founders of beauty concentrate company Everist. We talk about how Jhánneu’s journey to an abundance mindset set her on the path towards a minimalistic and eco-conscious lifestyle, Everist’s unique position as an affordable and high-performing waterless brand, the value add of using aluminum and glass-based products, and everyone’s favorite sustainable beauty and household products.

Launching a business in beauty is hard. Period. But launching a business in beauty that can thoughtfully navigate the demands of the industry while caring for our planet? Next level. Which is exactly why Rebundle Extension’s Ciara Imani May and Le Prunier’s Allison Taylor were the perfect guests to speak about the intersection of business and environmental impact. I sat down with Ciara to discuss how her compostable, banana-fiber-based hair extensions are slowly but surely changing the Black hair industry, and Allison to talk about how she and her sisters flipped their family plum farm on its head to create a business completely based on the kernels that everyone else seemed to ignore. Tune in as both founders discuss the successes, the remaining challenges around access and redefining luxury, and how they strive to implement sustainable practices in their personal lives.

As a beauty lover, it can be difficult to find your footing in the sustainability conversation. I’m diving into all things environmentalism this month and learning more every day. Between reflecting on my own habits, combatting climate fatalism with activist Leah Thomas, and exploring the corporation vs. consumer conundrum of environmental marketing with my friend Ivan Entchevitch, there’s a lot to unpack here. Enjoy!
