We know that narcissists are all about manipulation - they'll stop at nothing, including emotional abuse, physical abuse and more, in order to get what they want.
And we all know that one of the biggest identifiers of a toxic narcissist is the fact that they seem to have no empathy for others, including and especially those who are closest to them. But is it impossible for a narcissist to be empathetic? Are they truly incapable of understanding and caring how another person feels, or is there some way to change that?
The question of the day is: Can narcissists have empathy? In my experience, it's rare, and it only happens when the narcissist thinks they can get something out of it - so empathy is possible, but unlikely real.
But a series of psychological studies may have proved that it's possible for a narcissist to display empathy. Researchers Erica G. Hepper, Claire M. Hart and Constantine Sedikides wanted to know the answer, so they did a 3-study research project that involved a group of people who had tested on the Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI - take the test at http://queenbeeing.com/take-narcissistic-personality-inventory-test/) at varying levels.
The findings were quite interesting, because it seems that research proved that, in the right environment and under the right circumstances, it IS possible to cause a narcissist to feel empathy for another person.
From the study: "Narcissists tend to lack empathy, which can cause problems for themselves, the people around them and society in general. But promising new research from the University of Surrey suggests narcissists do in fact possess the physical capacity to empathise with someone else's distress."
"Our findings are promising in suggesting that even relatively anti-social members of society can be empathic." - Dr Erica Hepper, School of Psychology, University of Surrey

After you watch this vlog, please take a moment to let me know if you agree and think the study is accurate, or if you think there's a lot more to it than the researchers noted. I'd love to get a good discussion going here - so tell me what you think! Can a narcissist really experience empathy in the same way that we do?
