Why do narcissists lie so much?! If you have ever talked to a narcissist for more than 5 minutes, you have realized that narcissist are liars! They tell lies to manipulate people and get their way. These people can be charming and nice in short interactions (or simply the people walking next to you on the street) but when they want something they will stop at nothing to get it.

There are three main reasons why narcissists lie so much: 1. to cover their tracks 2. to avoid responsibility 3. to serve their own needs. These are all important to keep in mind because, ultimately, we can't expect them to behave any other way (change). Of course, when it comes to asking questions and trying to get the truth out of a narcissist - its a lot harder than it sounds and they're likely to gaslight and manipulate you into continuing to believe their stories. Can narcissists change this?

You have to remember that by the very nature of their personality disorder, narcissists don't have the ability to bare their souls and reveal themselves in all their honesty and imperfection because they are consumed by fear. They are ruled by the fear of not being loved by others. They live by the credo "to be or not to be". Narcissists lie because they want to maintain power over you - another common trait of narcissistic personality disorder.
