Narcissists Make You Doubt Yourself (How to Deal with Being Underestimated) - How to Deal with Being Underestimated, PlusQ&A - Most everyone can think of a time when they've been underestimated, but if you've ever been in a toxic relationship with a narcissist, you were probably underestimated more often than the average person.
This can lead you to believe that you're not good enough. It can make you doubt yourself. And if you're not careful, being consistently underestimated can cause you to stop believing in yourself.
And when you believe you're not capable of being what you want to be - well, sometimes, you actually end up manifesting a life that you don't want. You end up becoming something that you don't want to be.
You can choose to lie down and accept this.
But I propose that you change the way you see this whole thing.
Because you can also choose to first recognize the limitations of the person who is doing the underestimating, and then you can choose to use this to your advantage.
Consider the following.
Early in his career, Walt Disney was fired from the Kansas City Star because, as his editor told him, he “lacked imagination and had no good ideas.”
Oprah Winfrey was fired from her first television job as an anchor in Baltimore for getting “too emotionally invested in her stories.”
Steven Spielberg desperately wanted to go to the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts was rejected by them multiple times.
Thomas Edison's teachers told him he was “too stupid to learn anything.” He was later fired from his first two jobs for not being productive enough.
As a child, Albert Einstein had a hard time communicating and learning in a traditional manner. He was considered a "below average" in intelligence and a big problem child by his teachers.
After Harrison Ford's first small movie role, an executive took him into his office and told him he'd never succeed in the movie business.
Lucille Ball was kicked out of acting school — after one month, because her teachers said she did not have what it takes to be a successful actress.
Can we all agree that these people would go on to become legendary successes?
So, what does that tell you?
Being underestimated for these people might have been painful for a moment, but they picked themselves up by the bootstraps and carried on. And I'd like to think that part of the reason they did succeed was because they took that negative energy and turned it around.
You can do that too. In this video, I'll explain how I release that negativity, and I get focused on what I really want. And then I get all Bruno Mars on their butts and I start singing "Don't believe me. Just watch!"
The next time someone underestimates you, I want you to remember that being underestimated can be a good thing. Let them sleep on you - let them believe that you won't or can't do what you want. Let them think as little of you as they want.
And then I want you to turn around and prove them wrong. Use this as motivation. Show the world and yourself that they are wrong. DOn't give up on yourself and your dreams - keep going. Keep trying until you make it happen.
And then you'll get your best revenge - you'll be living your best life, being your best self - being happy and fulfilled - while they continue to live in their negative stew of a life.
