Neville Goddard was a spiritual teacher and mystic known for his teachings on the power of imagination and consciousness in shaping our reality. His approach was deeply rooted in the idea that God is within us and that we have the ability to tap into our divine creative power through our thoughts, beliefs, and imagination. Much of his work was focused on understanding the relationship between the mind, imagination, and the external world, and how these elements work together to manifest our desires.
Imagination is God
Imagination as the Bridge to Reality: Goddard believed that everything in our external world, including material circumstances and relationships, is a reflection of our internal state. By using imagination to create vivid mental images of what we desire, we begin to bring those images into physical reality. In his view, this is not a passive act—we must actively participate in the creation of our reality by engaging our imagination and aligning our emotions with the desired outcome.
The Law of Assumption
Living in the End: Goddard often taught his followers to "live in the end"—to imagine and feel the emotions of having already achieved their goal. By doing so, we align ourselves with the frequency of the desired outcome, thereby attracting it into our lives. Goddard’s idea was that by living in the end, we shift our consciousness to a higher state, which in turn changes our circumstances.
Feeling is the Secret
Emotions as Energy: Goddard taught that our emotions are a form of energy that aligns with our thoughts and sends a signal out to the universe. The stronger and more intense the feeling, the more powerfully it can shape our reality. Therefore, to manifest successfully, we must focus on cultivating the emotions that align with our desires—feeling gratitude, joy, and peace as though we have already received what we asked for.
The Power of the Subconscious Mind
Reprogramming the Subconscious: Goddard taught that in order to create a new reality, we must reprogram the subconscious mind by replacing old, limiting beliefs with new, empowering ones. He emphasized the importance of visualization and affirmations as tools for reprogramming the subconscious. By repeatedly imagining and feeling the reality we want, we replace the old subconscious programs that keep us stuck in limiting circumstances.
The Power of "I AM"
Affirmations with "I AM": Goddard encouraged his followers to use affirmations that start with "I AM", such as “I AM wealthy,” “I AM healthy,” or “I AM loved.” According to Goddard, whatever follows the words "I AM" becomes your reality, because you are essentially claiming that identity. For example, if you say “I am prosperous,” you are identifying yourself with the energy of prosperity, which helps to attract prosperity into your life.
Revision: Changing the Past
The Power of Revising Memory: According to Goddard, the subconscious mind doesn’t distinguish between what is real and what is imagined. Therefore, if you mentally revise a past event and imagine it ending in a more positive way, you can change the impact that event has on your present life. This is an act of conscious creation, where you change the energetic imprint of past experiences to create a new reality.
Living the Reality You Desire
Living in Alignment: Goddard emphasized that it’s important to not just wish for or hope for a change but to actively live as though the desired change has already occurred. This means living in alignment with your new identity, behaving as though you are already the person who has achieved their goal, and consistently embodying the energy of your desires.
Imagination and Belief are Powerful: Our imagination and beliefs have the power to create our reality. By focusing on positive, empowering thoughts and using imagination, we can manifest our desires.
Feelings and Emotions Fuel Manifestation: It's not enough to just think about what we want; we must also feel the emotions of already having it. Strong, positive emotions are key to bringing our desires into reality.
The Subconscious Mind Must Be Reprogrammed: To manifest our desires, we need to reprogram our subconscious mind by replacing old limiting beliefs with new empowering ones, using visualization, meditation, and affirmation.
The Words "I AM" Are Powerful: Whatever follows "I AM" creates our reality. Using affirmations starting with "I AM" can help shift our mindset and align us with the life we desire.
Revision Can Change the Past: We have the ability to change how we perceive past events by revising our memories and imagining them in a way that supports our current desires.
Living in the End: To manifest, we must embody the end result of our desires. We should live and feel as though our goals have already been achieved, which aligns our energy with the reality we wish to create.
Neville Goddard’s sermon-based teachings emphasize the incredible power of imagination, belief, and emotion in shaping our lives. He teaches that we are all divine creators with the ability to manifest anything we desire by changing our thoughts, emotions, and perceptions. Through practices like visualization, affirmations, revision, and feeling the wish fulfilled, we can take control of our reality and bring our desires into being.
