NASA's Dr. Charles Gatebe, Chief, Atmospheric Science Branch (SGG) & SaSa Principal Investigator at The NASA Ames Research Center, joined WMAL's "O'Connor and Company" radio program on Tuesday about the upcoming NASA Plane to Fly Low Over I-95.
On Wednesday, July 6, the NASA P-3 Plane will fly low over I-95 corridor in support of the NASA Student Airborne Science Activation (SaSa). About 25 first- and second-year early career undergraduate students from minority serving institutions across the country will fly onboard the NASA P-3 research aircraft at different times to collect land, ocean, and atmospheric measurements.
A NASA aircraft will be flying over the I-95 corridor from Washington, D.C., to Baltimore and Hampton, Virginia, in support of an atmospheric campaign in the mid-Atlantic region between July 5 and 16, 2022. The four-engine turboprop P-3, based at Wallops, will fly five days during the 12-day period at altitudes from 1,000 to 10,000 feet. The P-3 can be tracked in real-time at NASA Airborne Science Program Tracker: the plane icon is labeled NASA P-3 (N426NA). Additionally, flight updates will be available via Wallops’ Facebook and Twitter. The day before a flight, Wallops will post the estimated time the P-3 aircraft will fly over the I-95 corridor and Hampton.
