Parashant National Monument (0:00:00)
Life can get pretty noisy sometimes. But there’s one place in a remote area of Arizona that might be perfect for your next getaway. Parashant National Monument is in Littlefield, Arizona, right within the Grand Canyon. This monument is out of range for cell service and many other amenities, making it the perfect escape. And what better way to get your kids off their phones than by going to a National Park where they have to enjoy the scenery, because their phones don’t work? So, what beautiful landmarks does this place have to offer? Jeff Axel is a national park ranger with special knowledge about Parashant National Monument, and he joins us today to answer our questions.
Supporting Kids without Pressuring Them (0:18:26)
Despite the baggage we all bring to parenthood, our ultimate goal is to help our kids be happy and fulfill their potential. And sometimes, with our excitement to help our kids lead their best lives, our support can turn into uncomfortable pressure. So, to help us support our kids without pressuring them, we’ve invited child expert and licensed marriage and family therapist, Devin Price, on the show today.
How to Ace Your Online Interview (0:35:33)
As remote interviews become the new normal, the old tricks of in-person interviews no longer hold the same power. A firm handshake won't help you when your potential employer occupies a 2 by 2-inch box on your computer. And how can you impress when you have to do the interview from your closet because it has the best Wi-Fi connection? While there are challenges to remote interviews, there are also ways we can overcome them. To help us out, we invited Art Markman, a professor of psychology and marketing at the University of Texas Austin. He’s here with us to discuss how to rock your next digital job interview.
Out-of-the-Box Date Ideas (0:52:48)
Romance in the time of COVID looks a little different than it did in the past. Some of those easy date ideas like going out to eat or going to the movies are still not possible in some areas of the country. Many movie theatres and favorite restaurants continue to keep their doors closed. As sad as it is, this also gives us an opportunity to do something different with our significant other, something that will hopefully help us learn more about each other. Whether it’s for your first date or your 157th date, lifestyle blogger Kay Elle joins us today to share some out-of-the-box date ideas.
Mini Book Club: Back to School Books (1:13:33)
Rachel Wadham, of BYU Radio’s Worlds Awaiting, talks with Lisa and Richie about the best books to read now that school is starting again.
Thrifting (1:30:02)
Whether or not you enjoy thrift-store shopping, one thing is for sure: being able to find good items amongst all the clutter is a special talent. For many of us, when we first walk in everything looks and smells the same: old, weathered, and undesirable. It almost seems easier to shop at your local shopping mall than try to repurpose what you find, if you can find anything. But, there are hidden treasure in thrift stores that you can get for really good prices. You just need to know how to look for them. So, we invited one of those talented people, Erin Marshall from Live Pretty on a Penny, and she is here to give us all of her tips for finding treasures and repurposing items from thrift stores.
