Police Install VR Training Systems
Virtual reality, or VR, is a technology (科技) that lets you feel like you're in a different world.
You wear a headset with a screen in front of your eyes, and you can see a computer-generated environment.
The image on the screen (螢幕上的畫面) changes when you move your head to look around.
It can be used for playing video games, designing 3D models, creating art…
And even training (訓練) doctors, pilots, and police!
The National Police Agency (NPA) has installed VR police training systems for the first time.
The systems were installed (安裝) at the New Taipei, Taoyuan, Kaohsiung, and Chiayi County police departments.
Police will also use them at the Railway Police Bureau, Taiwan Police College, and the First Police Special Corps 6th Corps.
The VR police training system cost around $45 million NT.
It offers new training features (功能).
Users have to wear headsets (頭戴式裝置), and officers are trained through simulations (模擬).
The system can create simulations of different settings (場景), like KTV bars or train stations.
This can help officers prepare for all kinds of scenarios (情境).
The NPA says it plans to buy more VR training systems.
That way, other police departments and institutions can help make the training more realistic (更真實).
And improve police officers' skills to keep us safe.

Dolphins 'Shout' to Get Heard over Noise Pollution
Did you know that humans are not the only species that "speak" to each other?
Many animals communicate (溝通) with each other in different ways.
They can make sounds to show they are happy, hungry, or in danger.
Dolphins are intelligent marine mammals that use a complex communication system.
They are very social animals (善於社交的動物), and live in groups called pods.
Their communication lets them cooperate (合作), play, and solve problems together.
They can whistle to identify each other (識別彼此), like how we use names…
And they use clicks for echolocation (迴聲定位), using sound waves to find food or know where they are.
Unfortunately, ocean noise pollution (海洋噪音污染) is making it hard for dolphins to communicate with each other.
Human activity, like shipping, oil, and gas exploration, and construction, has increased a lot in recent years.
That means underwater sound levels (水下聲級) are also increasing.
Scientists trained two dolphins and studied them in a noisy environment
They found that the dolphins started whistling two times louder and for a longer time to communicate.
The study shows that ocean noise pollution greatly affects the lives of marine mammals.

9-Year-Old Finds Ancient Shark Tooth
When I go to the beach, I look for seashells (貝殼) or pretty rocks to bring home.
I feel really lucky and excited (感到幸運和興奮) when I can find something.
9-year-old Molly from Maryland, USA, found something even more exciting than seashells or rocks.
It was an ancient fossil
Molly and her family are all big fossil enthusiasts (愛好者), and her dad looked for fossils at the beach since he was a kid.
In fact, she and her sister always say they want to go find shark teeth like professionals (專業人)!
So, when she got an insulated chest wader (保暖涉水褲) for Christmas, the family went to the beach the next morning.
Molly was visiting the beach with her family on Christmas Day.
She told her mom she was "looking for a Meg" - that is, a Megalodon tooth!
The Megalodon (巨齒鯊) was the largest shark of all time.
It lived up to 3.6 million years ago!
They had really huge teeth, with each one being over 18 centimeters long.
Molly always dreamed of finding a Megalodon tooth.
And she did!
Imagine how excited she was to find one that day!
Her family took the tooth to a marine museum.
The museum's paleontologists (古生物學家) confirmed the tooth came from a "Meg".
They congratulated her as a "future paleontologist"!
