  • Making Life Easier - Creating a Routine That Really Works for You

Creating a routine may not sound like a ton of fun, but it's so helpful in being more efficient with everything you want & need to do. It also helps you achieve your goals easier & with more focus. And let's not forget how it cuts back on stress & chaos.

    Show Notes:
I am that person that really needs a routine to stay focused & feel accomplished during the day. I can honestly say that I struggle with getting as many things possible done without a routine. It keeps me in the flow & acts like a transition from one section of my day to the next.

And when I talk about routine I am not talking only about a morning routine that helps you get the day started, but also routines that happen in the middle of the day, end of day routines, specific self-care routines, routines you use at work to stay focused, routines you use to keep a desired cadence with an activity like date night, family night, gym time and so many others.

A routine provides a set of positive habits you engage in that help to manage stress, keeps things orderly, better yourself in different ways & allow you to get whatever you need completed.

Routines also represent investing in yourself. You will also prove to yourself you can complete goals & tasks by being consistent with your routine.

With stress, the more routines you establish that help you get things done more efficiently & with less friction, you will experience less stress. This also has to do with having a plan you’re in control of. And, since you have a routine that cares of many things you no longer have to think too hard about, you have more time & capacity to make the best decisions you can on other things that aren’t constant.

I personally like routines because these are generally something I am in control of. I create the routine (normally) & dictate how it works & make it work best for me. This is even in times where we are challenging ourselves to be better at something, it’s still in our control. And to that note, it feels even better that we choose to do the work because we wanted to & knew we didn’t have to. Control freaks know what I’m talking about.

So today I want to share with you 5 tips for creating the best routines for your life that will work best for you:

    1. Start with a routine you can actually manage.
    2. Choose a time you can be consistent with & schedule it out.
    3. Determine what your goal will be before you create the routine.
    4.  Assign everything else in your time a slot of time
    5. Regularly review how successful your routine is & evaluate how it’s going & make changes when necessary.

  • Be Yourself Confidently - What to Do When You Feel Misunderstood

Being misunderstood can feel lonely, but sometimes it's where we need to be to be our true selves. But there are ways to work through those feelings & even diminish some of the misunderstandings. Come listen to 5 tips on what to do when you feel misunderstood.

    Show Notes:
As dramatic as this sounds, I have felt misunderstood my entire life. I never really felt like anyone truly got who I was. No doubt part of that was due to the fact that I was such a people pleaser that I was generally pretending to be whoever the people around me needed me to be. I was wearing a mask most of the time & lived in fear of letting out the true me, until I met my husband. And even then, I still held some stuff back because I didn’t want to freak him out.

I’m sure many of us have felt misunderstood. We don’t feel like people understand our point of view, the reason we do things a certain way, the way we problem solve situations, why we like certain things & don’t like other things. It is interesting that these are all things we all are different with, yet there is judgment when you are different than someone else. Because people typically gravitate to those that are similar to them.

This is something I wish we all could improve on because we should make an effort to have people in our lives that are different than us so we can learn from them. Having people that think differently & do things differently will help us widen our perspective on life & ask better questions. We will also become stronger in so many additional aspects of our lives.

For now, though, we have to deal with people not really understanding who we are & why we are. And that can be really tough because it instigates hurt feelings & sometimes a deep dive into the pit of despair. We also don’t want to be miscategorized or identified as something that we aren’t because it can lead to us feeling insecure or not part of the group or ostracized. And no one wants any of these things. Most people just want to be included & accepted.

And being misunderstood somehow feels like there is something wrong with us, when there really isn’t.

But that shouldn’t change who we are & how we go about life, as long as we aren’t hurting anyone. We need to stand confidently in who we are & know that we are doing our best. Some people just won’t like you & that’s their choice to make. But their opinions of you don’t have to change how YOU see yourself & live your life. Some people only like people very similar to them because they don’t want to step outside of their comfort zone.

That’s why today I want to share with you 5 things you can when you feel misunderstood:

    1. Get to Know Yourself
    2. Work On Communicating Your Needs
    3. Filter Yourself Less
    4. Be Vulnerable About Why You Want to Be Understood
    5. Protect Your Peace At All Costs

  • Let Go of Excuses - Stop Saying Tomorrow, Start Today

How far have your excuses gotten you so far? I'm willing to bet absolutely nowhere.
Let me share with you 5 tips on how to let go of excuses & achieve your goals, even if you're scared.

    Show Notes:
I have wasted so much of my life living in fear. Being too scared to step out in faith & belief in myself and just try something that I’m passionate about. It was always something I knew I could do without too much pushback. I never had the guts to try what I am doing now, which is helping people with their emotional health through this podcast & through personalized coaching.

But it is a journey, right? There are reasons it takes us longer to step up and do some things in comparison to others. And it takes time to learn new skills & be ready for that season of life you want to walk into, but this isn’t the case all the time.

And sometimes we blame not stepping into or attempting to do the things we want to do on not being ready. It’s always something about needing to do this & that first before you can move onto the thing you really want to do. You create barriers for yourself on purpose because you are self-sabotaging. Check out episode 388 if you’d like to learn more on how to not engage in self-sabotage. And to be honest with you, waiting until you’re ready is just an excuse. Especially if you’re a perfectionist.

I have had the idea of helping people through personalized mindset coaching for a while now. It’s the reason I started the podcast. But even that took some time for me to go all in. I had to deal with fears of failure & judgment. But something in my snapped that I needed to just get started. So I did. And no regrets.

Same with coaching. I spent over a year telling myself I’m going to do it, but I didn’t. Again, fear of failure & judgment & not being taken seriously. But lucky for me, someone I had made friends with online reached out to me & encouraged me to get take the leap. And I did.

And I know we won’t always have those people in our lives to push us down the slide of life & unknown experiences, so we also need to be able to do it for ourselves.

Excuses don’t make you feel better. Excuses don’t fulfill visions and dreams and goals. Waiting until tomorrow or Monday or next week/month/year will only allow you more time to syke yourself out & not do it at all. Then all you’re left with is longing & hope that you’ll one day take the first step. And hope is nice, but not as nice as action.

Today I want to share with you 5 tips on how to let go of excuses:

    1. Stop Obsessing Over What Happened in the Past
    2. Stop Comparing Yourself to Others
    3. Create a Goal Setting Plan with Tons of Tiny Steps
    4. Stop Being a Victim
    5. Examine What Emotion the Excuse is Masking

  • Stop Feeling Guilty - Start Doing What is Best for You

We spend a lot of time worrying about what others will think about the choices we make & that we aren't worthy enough of making our own choices without external validation, which creates guilt when we finally do make choices that benefit us first. But I'm here to tell you why we NO LONGER need to ever feel guilty about doing what's best for ourselves.

    Show Notes:
I live my life with the weight of other people’s made-up expectations on my shoulders. It’s pretty ridiculous, actually. And when I say made up, I mean that my mind is making these expectations up for me to shoulder the burden.  It’s because I am so wrapped up in worried about what other people are thinking about me.

But what we don’t realize is that most of the time people could care less about what we are doing, how we look, what we said, any of that. And even when they do (which is just their own insecurities popping up), it doesn’t matter because you don’t have to accept what they say as truth. And the silly thing is I know I’ve done this to someone, too. I have judged someone at first glance without knowing any actual knowledge. And I know this sounds bad, but whether you want to admit it or not, we have all done this. We all have our own biases’ & it can just happen if we allow our emotions to lead our actions.

It’s easy to get caught up in thinking we need to only do things that other people will approve of because we don’t want them to think differently of us. But unfortunately, we can’t please everyone. Some people just want to be unhappy about everything & everyone in their lives.  And also, it’s important to realize that the only way popular opinion about something can be changed is if enough people start doing the thing, without caring what others think, and make it a normal thing over time. And sometimes we have to be those test people.

In regards to feeling guilty, often times we don’t feel worthy enough to make helpful decisions for ourselves unless someone else signs off or approves it for us. We are so worried about other people judging us for our decisions, even if it’s something positive. Or we are really stuck in our people-pleasing behaviors that it seems almost impossible to do something that benefits ourselves directly & first.

Because of this, I wanted to share with you a list of things you should not feel guilty doing for yourself or making the decision about because you are worthy of these choices. Everyone is. We have to do what is best for us. And those of us that are people pleasers & codependent may not realize that a lot of people live their lives like this already, we just choose not see that perspective.

Here are 8 choices you should never feel guilty about:

    1. Ending work at the agreed-upon time.
    2. Telling people ‘no.’
    3. Asking for help/extra support.
    4. Taking breaks/taking days off.
    5. Not getting everything done.
    6. Being yourself.
    7. Being sensitive, emotional & vulnerable.
    8. Relapsing.

  • Stop Speaking Negatively - Your Words Create Your Reality

Your attitude is everything. You believe it only affects you inside your mind & not even by much, but you're wrong. Your attitude, how you speak to yourself & out into the world creates the life you live in. There is a correlation between being negative & getting negative. Same with being positive. Let me give you some quick tips to turn that attitude around today.

    Show Notes:
We think that our attitude only affects us, when it affects so many other things in our lives.

Tony Robbins talks about how the words we say create life, create our reality & it’s so true.

If you don’t believe me, take a moment to at least consider it.

Ask yourself if you’ve been saying negative things to yourself or out loud for others to hear (or not) & answer whether you have been mostly seeing negative things in your life. And think about the last time you were being more positive or even just realistic. Didn’t it seem like your circumstances were more manageable or even better?

Your attitude, positive or negative, will determine so many things in your life that you may not have considered. The attitude you have at the beginning of something you know will be grueling & a lot of work will determine the outcome. It might all still come together in the end, but it could have been A LOT better if there wasn’t so much negativity swirling around.

Your attitude is also one of the few things you ALWAYS have control over in your life. You get to decide how you feel, how you act, and how you handle something tough. It’s all you. And blaming someone else for how you feel will not make the pain go away. Shifting blame makes it seem like it’s no longer your responsibility, but that’s only a fallacy.

The things you say create your reality. And I don’t want you to think I’m suggesting you subscribe to toxic positivity, which is fake positivity. No, I want you to be fully aware of what you are saying & thinking as much as possible & check yourself when it’s necessary so you don’t live a life full of negativity & letdown.

Please realize that it serves you best when you lean into the positive more than the negative. It isn’t going to make the whole problem, struggle, and experience go away, but it’s going to make it easier for you to get through. It’s not a magic formula, but it is what will make the whole experience better. Maya Angelou said, “If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.”

Here are 4 ways you can quickly shift your attitude from negative to something more positive:

    1. Recognize Your Negative Feelings & Thoughts
    2. See Your Struggles As Accepted Challenges
    3. Change Your Focus
    4. Ask Yourself, “Will this attitude actually make anything better?”

  • Mental Health Check-Ins - How to Assess Your Emotional Health

We are so nice to check in on others & make sure they are doing ok, but we aren't doing that for ourselves. Why? If we took the time to evaluate how we were doing FIRST, then go & help others, we wouldn't be as run-down, burnt out & depleted as we have been.

    Show Notes:
Have you been kind to yourself? I think you only hear this question from people that are SUPER into emotions or hardcore wellness people on the internet. And today I am going to be one of those people.

For reals though, I need to be asking myself this question every single day. YOU need to be asking yourself this question every single day. And not in a “this is really silly but I’m going to force myself to do it” kind of way. We need to be more serious about it. We need to be honest with ourselves & ask this question intending to get real answers.

Checking-in with ourselves is one of the best ways to make sure we are taking care of ourselves emotionally & give ourselves the opportunity to make changes & do better by ourselves. It’s unacceptable that we will treat everyone else like royalty & treat ourselves like crap. The longer you do that the more work you will have to do when you do decide to check-in with yourself or HAVE to because you’re run down & burnt out. Plus, it’s a normal thing to do mental health check-ins with our friends & family to make sure they have what they need & are doing ok. Why not make this a normal practice with our own emotional health.

Today I wanted to share with you 7 Questions to Ask Yourself to do your own Mental Health Check-in:

    1. Have you been validating your feelings & emotions?
    2. Are you enjoying the small moments in life regularly?
    3. Are you celebrating yourself, in the big wins & the small wins?
    4. Do you give yourself permission to not be perfect?
    5. Are you taking care of your daily needs, emotional & physical?
    6. Do you remind yourself of how worthy you are?
    7. Are you being easy with yourself when you make mistakes or experience failure?

  • Stop Fighting Your Emotions - How to Accept & Honor Your Emotions

We spend so much time fighting our emotions when we could understand ourselves so much better & feel confident in who we are if we just learned to accept & honor our feelings. I have 5 easy ways to start learning to accept & honor your emotions today!

    Show Notes:
Fake it till you make is one of those phrases I used to live & die by because I never wanted to acknowledge how I was truly feeling. I would fake whatever the most appropriate emotion was in the moment & just get through the experience. I didn’t want to expose any type of vulnerability for fear someone would use it against me or it would make me appear less than. And when you are slinging punches at all the trauma trying to take you out, you are not about to expose any weak spots.

That was another thing, being vulnerable felt weak to me when I was younger. I remember there were times that I did share emotional things with others, but it was such an awkward interaction & never felt natural to me because I wasn’t taught how to properly deal with my emotions. And since it didn’t feel right, I didn’t end up doing it often. Eventually, all that ended up blowing up in my face & I was forced to face my emotions.

We spend a lot of time running away from our emotions. We think we can just brush it all under the rug, pretend like we aren’t feeling what we’re feeling & think it will all be fine. But think about all the experiences, people, events that trigger a reaction in you, think about all the things that make you uncomfortable but you don’t know why. Have you ever asked yourself where all this comes from? It comes from not accepting your emotions & trying to throw those away. And instead of those feelings actually going away, these instead get stored away somewhere deep in our minds to bubble up later at a very inopportune time.

Trying to hide your feelings, trying to ignore what you’re feeling, trying to pretend you feel differently than you actually do is what I thought it would be helpful to talk about accepting & honoring your emotions.

Today I’m going to share with you 5 Ways on How to Accept & Honor Your Emotions:

    1. Don’t Ignore Your Emotions & Allow Yourself to Feel Emotions
    2. Be Honest About How You’re Feeling
    3. Don’t Judge How You’re Feeling
    4. Remember Your Emotions Are Just as Important as Everyone Else’s
    5. Get Support with Your Emotions

  • How to Respond & Protect Yourself From Negative People - Negativity is Contagious

You may feel like you have to endure someone else's negativity because it's the 'nice' thing to do, but you don't. You need to know how to respond & protect yourself from negativity so it doesn't also become a problem for you, too.

    Show Notes:
It’s those moments when we feel like we are being suffocated by someone else’s negativity that we wish we could do something about it. And we can. But it has nothing to do with the other person & all about what you can do.

I know that making the decision to walk away, distance yourself & retreat from negativity is easy, it’s just the actual action of it that’s difficult. Actually telling the person (when you need to) that you don’t want to be around negative attitudes can be really scary because you don’t know how they are going to react. It’s also difficult if you’re a people pleaser because all you want to do is make the other person happy & disregard your own feelings.

But if you’re an empath, it’s SUPER important to distance yourself from this type of behavior. It’s not going to be good for you to absorb all that negativity & put yourself in a mood, too. Not only because it won’t be fun to experience, but it will also get in the way of you being able to help that person get out of their funk, if that’s important to you.

I feel like a lot of times, people pleaser or not, we feel like we have to just suck it up & endure negative people. And sometimes we do if we are in a situation where there is no exit strategy, but I’d say there is usually a way to get some distance so you aren’t so clouded with someone else’s negativity.

Today I am going to share with you 5 Ways on How to Distance & Protect Yourself from Negative People:

    1. Start with an Empathetic Reply (Instead of drawing out the conversation more about whatever they are being negative about, use a response that will help shut down the conversation. “Sorry to hear that,” “Is there anything I can do?” “That’s really too bad.”
    2. Tactfully Change the Subject (Start with your empathetic reply, then take a quick turn to a new topic. Example: “That’s really tough. Have you heard anything about blah blah blah?/What was the best part of your day?” Ideally, you would bring up something super positive or just very different than what they were talking about.)
    3. Ask If You Can Suggest Something Positive for Them to Try (Don’t just give them a classic encouragement line, it has to be something more involved. It would need to be something that can keep their mind off their troubles long enough to either forget about it or when they do circle back to their problems you can remind them of the positive thing that just kept their mind occupied & suggest they keep doing that.)
    4. Don’t Try to Solve Their Problems  (They might ask you for your advice, which is fine, but you have to understand that if you DO give your advice, you are inviting yourself deeper into the problem.)
    5. Take Your Exit (This can be scary the first time you do it, but just embrace your desire to not be around negativity & it will seem easier.)

  • How to Handle Rejection - Being Rejected Isn't Failure or the End

Rejection doesn't define you, but it is a normal part of life. I have 5 tips on how to handle rejection in the moment & not let it crush you but cause you to see things in a different way & try again.

    Show Notes:
For the longest time I stayed in my comfort zone because I didn’t want to deal with rejection. And that lasted a good portion of my life. I would just stay comfy in the things I knew how to handle, the things where I knew how things were going to turn out, the things that weren’t scary at all. And one of the biggest reasons for this was because I was such a perfectionist. If I had even the smallest feeling that things weren’t going to work out well or believe the ability to accomplish whatever would be difficult, I would just pass. Perfectionism & rejection don’t mix

But perfectionism eventually gets to be too much & it came to a point where really bad things were happening, so I had to get help & work really hard to let go of that behavior. And as I have been letting go of perfectionism, I’ve realized that fear of rejection is just as much of a chokehold on your mindset. And rejection for me was not only not wanting to try new things & it not work out, but always needing to gain other people’s acceptance. I can’t tell you how dangerous this is. By needing to be accepted by everyone in your life, you are basically handing over the keys to your emotions & being like, “Yeah, take me for a ride if you want!” It’s the people-pleaser in us.

So yeah, rejection is a lot to take. And we can experience rejection in so many ways, even more than what I already mentioned. But the key to rejection is to not allow it to crush you but cause you to see things in a different way. See your situation, your experience, your interaction in a different way & try again. I like to think of rejection as a challenge to not give up.

Today I want to share with you How to Handle Rejection in the Best Way (meaning the most healthy way):

    1. Accept the Rejection (if you stay in denial, you’ll never move past it being a bad thing & create more emotional pain for yourself. This is also proof you are pushing yourself outside your comfort zone & the more it affects you, the more you know how much it meant to you, which can help you assess your priorities in life)
    2. Consider Rejection as a Way to Re-Route (it’s the classic reminder that rejection can be seen as a way of protection from something you didn’t need anyway. Take the lessons you learned from it not working out this time & move forward.)
    3. Remember to Show Yourself Compassion (don’t ream yourself for all the things you may have done wrong just to crap on yourself, don’t launch into negative self-talk, don’t punish yourself)
    4. Your Experiences of Rejection Don’t Define You (nothing in your life defines you unless you allow it to)
    5. Lean Into Gratitude Because All Isn’t Lost

  • How to Stop Self-Sabotaging - Stop Getting in Your Own Way

Self-sabotaging is the art of getting in your own way & creating problems that affect your everyday life & ability to accomplish your goals.  But that doesn't provide the best quality of life so I have 5 tips on how we can stop self-sabotaging.

    Show Notes:
I get in my own way all the time because I fear things will turn out badly. And I don’t like emotional pain. The fear, the stress, the letdown, the not knowing if it’s going to turn out as I hoped. I’m sure you’ve felt the same at some point because no one wants to ensure the emotional pain that comes from something not working out, not going the way we wanted, something that ends up letting us down.

But I also know that’s a part of life. A very important part of life because we really need to understand that rejection is a normal thing. And if it’s not a normal thing in your life, you’re probably not trying hard enough. Along with failures & mistakes, success also comes with experiences of rejection, too. So you’re either hiding in your comfort zone or basically doing nothing big in your life if you continue to avoid any rejection. Or you’re self-sabotaging.

Self-sabotaging is when you decide to get in your own way of good things happening in your life. You are self-sabotaging when you create problems in your daily life that generally get in the way of your goals. And this can be both conscious  & subconscious.

But how do we know we are self-sabotaging? Here are some examples:

    • Procrastination
    • You Put Yourself Down
    • Self-Medicate
    • Making Excuses Why You Can’t Do Something
    • Staying In Your Comfort Zone

And more than knowing whether we are getting in our own way or not is to ask how this becomes an issue. How are we becoming our biggest roadblocks? Here are some reasons why:

    • If you have had terrible relationships in the past, you might ruin the good ones that come along because you don’t want to get hurt again.
    • If you grew up being told you wouldn’t amount to much or constantly being criticized you might not try as hard as you could because you believed you couldn’t because people said you couldn’t.
    • Developed fear of failure is a big one. You don’t want to fail so you don’t do anything. It sounds like the right equation but it produces the opposite results.
    • The need for control is another one. You are in charge of how things go for you & that matters, even if it’s bad.
    • Cognitive dissonance is this uncomfortable mental feeling of having 2 conflicting thoughts at the same time.

So how do we stop ourselves from self-sabotaging behaviors? Here are 5 tips on How to Stop Self-Sabotaging:

    1. Identify the Behaviors that You Use to Self-Sabotage (
    2. Ask Yourself if This Behavior Aligns with Your Goals
    3. Get More Comfortable with Failure & Rejection
    4. Identify & Embrace Your Strengths
    5. Get Help from a Coach, Mentor and/or Counselor
