I definitely fall into the camp of not having any regrets because all of the fuck ups and failures and totally embarrassing & cringe-worthy experiences I’ve gone through has gotten me to where I am now…
But I did do a mental exercise the other day & ended up thinking about “What do I regret not doing sooner in my business”
And there were a good 5 things that I identified as key elements that would’ve gotten me to a successful, scalable, profitable business in 2 or 3 years instead of 10.
I’ll take you through all of them in time but one I really want to highlight today is sales.
It’s one thing that I know limited my earning potential - being unwilling to do sales calls.
Probably beyond even that was not realizing that I should be doing sales calls in the first place.
A massive perspective shift I had relating to this was going from thinking of myself as a marketer, as a freelancer, to thinking of myself as an agency owner - a business owner.
I see this over and over again with service providers. They love their craft - they love being a healer or graphic designer or coach, and they totally identify with being that identity - that service provider identity.
And it IS important to be obsessed with your craft - to think the work you do in the world is insanely important and transformative & so interesting & fun!
But to not identify first and foremost as a business owner is causing you to have a bottleneck in your business.
And a part of being a business owner is focusing on marketing & sales.
And a part of growing a business as a service provider is doing sales calls.
So many people want to avoid this - to go straight to launching a course or program instead of getting good at sales.
But the way to most easily grow your business & to hit success quickly in your business is to fall in love with sales calls.
Is that a stretch??
At least to be willing to consistently prioritize doing sales calls.
To get comfortable doing sales calls.
Maybe you call them discovery calls or initial consultations… but they’re still ultimately sales calls.
So let’s start with a little affirmation to open you up with this:
I am open to prioritizing sales calls.
I am open to sales calls being fun.
I am open to sales calls being of deep service to my potential clients.
The truth is that sales calls are money generating activities.
One big action item I have the magical people do in the Alchemical Business Intensive is to cut the fat out of their business.
To cut out the shit that doesn’t matter.
We can talk about systems and automations and delegating all day long. I love all of those things so so much.
And hiring a team & delegating things off your plate is a sexy sexy thing. It makes you feel powerful & like a boss.
But.
If you’re hiring & delegating and building systems for things that don’t actually make a large impact on your business then you’re just wasting time. And you’re wasting other people’s time. And you’re paying people to waste time.
Yikes.
So first - you got to get clear on what actually matters & what actually moves business forward in your business.
And that is on you.
You may be tempted to do research and take more courses and (procrastinate) in the most innocent and seemingly productive ways…
But if you have generated sales in your business, then you know how to make more sales. Just do more of the shit that worked.
And if you haven’t generated sales in your business then you need to commit to experimenting and taking action and doing the hard & potentially triggering things.
Like reaching out to real humans to schedule some fucking sales calls!
When you’re below capacity in your business - as in you can take on more clients - then your first order of business is to focus your attention on marketing & sales. And of course delivering stellar work & results.
But cutting out the fat in your business looks like cutting out the things that are not bringing you more clients & bringing your clients more results.
If you’re a service provider then that is most likely getting people onto sales calls with you. At least if you’re charging enough & selling larger packages & higher end offers. Which is a great way to go & focus on if you are starting out or if you’re below 6-figures or even multiple-6-figures in annual revenue.
So what happens when you cut out the fat & you just start focusing on the needle moving, revenue-generating, results-creating activities?
As in you stop spending hours a day on Instagram & instead focus on relationship building?
Time & space opens up.
And you may be tempted to FILL that time & space.
As the laws of nature will encourage you to do.
But let’s not do that, okay?
On the most practical level you need to be reserving enough space in your calendar to serve the number of clients you want to serve.
What I mean by that is if you have 5 clients right now & you want 10 clients. You really do need to reserve space in your calendar for those 5 additional clients.
Or else you’ll be on this teeter-totter see-saw of marketing versus fulfilling.
Filling up time with marketing & then getting a boat load of clients, and then all of your time is filled with delivering client results & you neglect your marketing efforts & then you don’t have a pipeline of clients gearing up to work with you so you have to then focus on marketing…
And back and forth of stressful playing catch up.
When you really just needed to be more potent with your time. To cut the fat. To proooobably raise your prices…
(But that’s a topic for another day)
So let’s go back to sales calls. The one thing I “regret” not committing to earlier on in my business.
Sales calls are all about your relationship with your work & your relationship with your potential clients.
RELATIONSHIPS are a key component in building an In Flow Business & when you don’t double down on relationships then you will feel icky in your business, in your marketing & with your money.
Sales calls are you having a conversation with someone who is interested in working with you. They want what you have to offer & they want the transformation you are an expert in giving.
Sales calls are only icky if you don’t believe in what you’re selling - so there’s some mindset homework for you right there.
Sales calls are icky when you aren’t talking to the right people - you’re selling an eskimo a fan, instead of selling an eskimo an insulated jacket.
Sales calls are icky when you feel like you’re TAKING something away from someone & you believe that your potential clients' money is more valuable to them than the transformation you provide. That you are causing harm to them by taking their money.
But you are a heart-centered intuitive magical person.
You are doing incredible, life-altering work in the world.
You would not be like a used car salesman that is pushy & is lying about the car's features or mileage.
You have an offer that you’re selling, a service that you’re selling, and honestly… it is not your decision to decide whether or not your potential clients decide to pay you.
Sure, you can choose not to work with someone because you get red flags on your end… but you making a clean offer & then waiting for their response is not fucking up to you.
Your responsibility is to instead get reaaalllllyyyy clear on the value of your offer & you need to get reaaalllllyyyy clear on who it is perfect for.
You have a responsibility to demonstrate the potential future reality for your potential client if they decide to work with you.
Okay?
SO let’s get into some Sales Call best practices.
In an ideal world your prospect knows of you already. But it’s not required.
Ideally they were referred to you.
Ideally they are already a fan of your work & they read your articles & emails & listen to your podcast.
They already know, like, and trust you.
If that’s the case - sales calls are very easy.
You’re just quickly connecting to be clear about the nuts and bolts and to feel each other out in a 1-1 setting.
A step away from that ideal scenario - you gotta think about the level of awareness your prospect has:
* Unaware. These are prospects who don't realize they have a problem. They simply don't know a better way exists. If you have a new product that addresses a major drawback of previous solutions, most of your prospects may be at this level.
* Problem Aware. Problem aware prospects know they have a problem, and have some idea of what that problem is, but they may not completely understand it. They haven't dealt with this problem before. They're totally unfamiliar with possible solutions.
* Solution Aware. Solution aware prospects know about solutions like yours, but don't know your specific product or service. If your company isn't well known in their industry, they may not have heard of you.
* Product Aware. These prospects know your product, but haven't bought it. They're familiar with what other people in your industry are offering. They're just not sure if your solution is best for them.
* Most Aware. These are your best customers – your multi-buyers. They're brand loyal. They're enthusiastic about you. They read your emails & watch your IG Stories & all the things.
I gotta say - don’t go after Unaware people. It’s an uphill battle.
The easiest sales calls will be the ones with the Most Aware, Product Aware, and sometimes Solution Aware level people.
So let’s look at some stats…
92% of buyers find a meeting valuable if you provide industry/mar

If you’ve always known your business is more than the way you make money — but it’s also a way you can express creativity and bring intentionality into your life — this episode is for you.
Why is business an excellent medium for spiritual growth? (4:00)
Marketing is all about relationship dynamics. It’s always human to human — even if it’s B2B or B2C. Part of being a spiritual business owner means deprogramming the idea that your work is tied in with your worth — especially if you own a business and care deeply about what you put into the world. Being a business owner means working on your relationship with other humans and with yourself.
Why magical people often have a block around being paid to do what they love. (18:20)
A lot of us think we should be paid the most for things that suck, that we don’t enjoy doing. But we should actually be paid the most for things we do in our sphere of genius — the things that feel easy and come naturally to us. And we should be spending 90% of our work time in that sphere of genius. But to get there, you have to let go.
“As business owners, we hold the power. Our work is to integrate our conscious and unconscious, to heal ourselves, to clear karmic patterns, and decide on better beliefs. All of this impacts our business.” - Sam Garcia
Why you need a deeper mission or “big why” in your business. (31:00)
Maybe you started your business because you hate working for someone, you can’t sit in an office, or you wanted to have access to a lot of money. That’s all great! But if you don’t create a bigger “why” to your business, you might hit a level of sustainability where you’re happy with your income, but suddenly the money doesn’t really matter. And you have to find a new fuel for your business… especially when things get hard. Having a bigger mission is important to prevent you from falling into the slump.
“How your business runs impacts what you manifest in your life.” - Sam Garcia

Alexandra is the bestselling author of Fuck like a Goddess, a multi-disciplinary artist, and a spiritual coach specializing in transformation and the magical intersection of spirituality, sensuality, and healing.
And... I’m so excited to also have her Director of Operations Sabrina here to look at the behind the scenes of a magical online business and learn about what keeps online businesses in the flow!
“I heard in a dream that I needed to share my story with other women. I needed to share about the portals I’ve crossed in my own awakening and healing.’”
The most important lessons Alexandra and Sabrina learned about creating an online business dream team. (8:55)
Alexandra has always been a creative, and she knew she needed someone to take care of the details and corral her big ideas. She found Sabrina through a mutual friend and they’ve been professional partners for the past 4 years.
Two years in, they almost ended their partnership due to hard lessons about learning how much is too much to put on your plate & the best way to collaborate. It’s been a transformative journey in understanding the best ways to communicate with your team and create stronger, better relationships.
What the average day in Alexandra’s business looks like. (28:20)
Alexandra and Sabrina have grown through different phases and titles together. When the roles of assistance, Queen of Operations, Online Business Manager don’t seem to resonate for Sabrina to embody anymore… they have leveled-up together into new roles. It’s all about tuning into what feels right and being willing to make adjustments and changes to the dynamic.
“I’m always expanding my capacity to experience life, feeling, emotion.”
How can business owners keep their business partners and team members happy? (37:35)
Allow your team to work and be in their own strengths. Create boundaries that support one another in being themselves. By learning what people are great at and what pulls each other out of their zone of genius, you can find the flow of what is best for the team and for the business.
Alexandra also recommends using The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks so you can determine where your area of genius is and figure out what’s best for you to do in the business.
“When frustration is present, something is off with my business.”

TRANSCRIPT
A big issue in our world today is we are in a consumer-centric society.
Don’t get me wrong, I love consumption.
Consumption is a part of life.
If we didn’t consume we would wither and die.
We need to eat food and drink water for survival.
So do other animals.
Plants even need to consume to survive - they consume sunlight and water and nutrients from the soil.
And beyond basic needs, we as humans consume to keep our social networks healthy.
Commerce and trade are key in forming human bonds with each other and between larger communities.
But there’s no question that we’ve gotten a liiiiiiiittle out of balance with our consumption.
We see it in more than two-thirds of adults in the United States are overweight or obese.
We see it in the rise of fast fashion.
We see it in Some reports indicating we consume twice as many material goods today as we did 50 years ago & then the average American throwing away 65 pounds of clothing per year
( Source: https://www.becomingminimalist.com/clutter-stats/ )
Consuming is necessary. It’s a healthy thing to do on a physical, social, and even spiritual level.
We’re just out of balance.
So let’s talk about a solution.
Becoming a Pro-Sumer.
The Pro-sumer is someone who produces more than they consume.
I was consuming a lot of information at the time, without really doing anything with it. Lots of reading - books, blogs, whatever.
Without Producing anything.
I was miserable & felt so lost & now I can look back and really see it’s connection to taking in without creating. Without producing.
In this beautiful in flow and out flow of life.
We’ve all had that friend that is so enlivened by life. They create, they act, they do.
Overconsumption is the disease of our modern world.
It’s Stuck energy
Like a blockage in the river
Have you ever seen this?
I grew up in Michigan - the metro Detroit area- with a pond and a creek in my backyard.
Every so often branches would build up in a bend in the creek and block the water in the river and low and behold the water in that part of the stream becomes nasty.
Weird bacteria starts breeding, all sorts of random stuff gets stuck in it. It gets cloudy and murky and green. And it smells horrible.
Why is this?
It’s not like someone came by and added foul smelly poop water to that part of the stream.
It’s the same water as is flowing in the rest of the stream.
It’s just blocked.
And the lack of motion. The lack of fresh energy becomes rancid. Foul. Gross.
We need to both inhale and exhale.
We need consistent fresh energy moving through us.
When I was 19 I did a year long ashtanga yoga apprenticeship.
Apart of the study was a reading list.
I tried to figure out the book I’m referring to was when prepping for this podcast, but I couldn’t. So I’m just sharing a memory.
In a well known book written by one of the main dudes that brought yoga to the west...
He wrote about the importance of pranayama. The importance of the breath.
Working with the breath is the more advanced form of yoga. Where Asana / body movement is the first step, the initiation into working with the breath.
This teacher spoke on, in an oh so concise guru way, how breath is the most important nourishment there is, and the most important health practice there is.
It’s the first way we take in the world. From the moment we’re born
We sit on our couches & consume too much food without presence, we buy a bunch of stuff off of amazon
We keep riding the shoppers high
Or we’re exhausted after a long day of work
We’re producing but meaningless shit - not the true inspiration birthed from our souls
There is an unquestionable difference between doing and creating.
You can spend 8 hours DOING work. That work can be exhilarating and fulfilling, or pure drudgery.
Where creating, producing something from your soul, producing something that weaves together everything you’ve consumed... that’s not just doing.
I have lived in Maui since 2013 & in the Hawaiian language white people are called ha’oles.
Ha’ole
Without breath
How Hawaiians say hello is sharing a breath together forehead to forehead touching. Sharing a breath, sharing HA.
AloHA.
The white men that came to colonize greeted by... hand shake. Without breath.
What a great representation of colonization
In a colonizer based society - We inhale - we take in - but we don’t exhale - let go, give back, create from our genius.
So the white colonizers, the haoles, came in & took. Without breath.
And we have a diseased people, without breath. A diseased society, without breath. A stuck, foul smelling energy blockage, without breath.
Because the truth is —
We are all creators. We are all creative beings.
We all have genius.
We can create a local economy, and an ethical economy that honors and respects each others gifts and creations and genius. That gives and receives, produces and consumes
There was this story on Instagram I came across a year or so ago about a woman working at a factory in some country our consumer society had laid waste to
She spoke of working in the factory day in and day out to barely get by. She didn’t know of another option to support herself or her family. But she got some level of satisfaction in knowing that at least the stuff her factory was producing was so embedded with the despair & tragedy of all the workers, the people who were essentially endentured servants, that no one would buy these items. They would be hit so intensely with the embedded despair of the items that they would run away from them.
So this woman Gets to the US after some string of events & Goes to some big store & is horrified by all the people buying the thing. No one has noticed. No one feels the embedded despair in the unethically produced STUFF.
Imagine the true power & meaning of buying a cashmere —
If you KNOW the person who grows your arugula
And you know that the woman who made your sweater was paid well & has a pleasant workplace.
And the sheep who grew the wool were treated well on a pasture instead of brutally abused.
As magical people we create meaning
Through ritual, through offering, through prayer, through acknowledging the meaning & connection of everything where others truly miss it
You already know the power of this, even if it’s an unconscious knowing.
You know the significance of consuming things that were made with love. You should also know the significance of YOU producing things out of love and play & being apart of the beautiful inhale & exhale of our upcoming pro-Sumer society.
Some action for you:
What’s your producer to consumer ratio?
How much do you consume compared to how much you produce?
What are the divinely inspired creations that are stuck inside of you that you aren’t actively releasing?
Shout out to Helena Grant hgrantstyle.com who inspired this entire podcast
She interviewed me for her Divine Instruments Summit & we had this full epic un-planned conversation after she stopped recording.

DIVINE INSTRUMENTS:
Attaining Sovereignty Through Transcendence
May 24th-28th, 2021
On a final note I do want to bring up that Creation begets creation.
When you start a writing practice more tends to flow
Our brains start becoming more efficient and being inspired and making connections
So get going! It gets easier.
Also, ask yourself:
How can you expand being a pro Sumer into other areas of my life?
I’m all for batching, I’m all for specialization. I often tell clients to focus on their sphere of genius and delegate the rest...
But we’re also not machines.
The industrial revolution brought the innovation of the assembly line, where each person in the line did one specialized task & it made assembling a car significantly more efficient. Like ridiculously so.
Specialization and niching echos this.
And just because specializing in our work life can bring us more joy & money, taking it off balance will sap us of joy.
This is where producing and creating and having hobbies and passions outside of our businesses comes in. I

Rachel Symington is a menstrual mentor, feminine business guide and Queen of making things easier! She empowers women by combining modern business strategy with ancient wisdom to live in alignment with their menstrual cycle, the seasons and moon cycle, to lead a fulfilling and abundant life.
“You’re already a successful, lazy bitch. You just need to realize that.”
How can we use our menstrual cycle to make our business succeed even more? (18:00)
Rachel teaches that everything shifts during the monthly hormonal cycles that many women have. She recommends that you change how you approach your business during different phases of your hormonal cycle. The patriarchy values the phases of your cycle when you are highly energized to work, and frowns upon the phases when you feel less inclined to work.
Rachel believes that every phase of the cycle is equally sacred. She plans her podcast appearances and sales calls during her ovulation when she is most energized, whereas when she is menstruating she can perform the same tasks, but it takes a lot more out of her and involves more self-care. That way she’s swimming with the current instead of against it.
"If I'm grounded and connected, I can handle anything."
How to figure out what archetype you are currently in. (22:15)
Some people say they don’t know if they are in the Queen, Maiden, Enchantress, or Crone phase… every time Rachel asks her clients to sit with it and meditate on how they feel, they can tune into which phase they’re in. And because that’s how they feel, that’s correct.
Rachel’s take on being the sole income earner. (29:20)
Rachel has been the sole breadwinner for her family since 2015, and she’s definitely felt the pressure due to insecurities around having enough money when she is the sole income earner. The perspective shift away from thinking “this is all on me” and instead toward thinking “my husband takes care of the family by maintaining the house” has been helpful in her feeling less of the pressure of earning, because she knows it isn’t all her and she’s not alone. He is there to support her with her mentors and friends. Plus, it’s hot that he takes the reins on taking care of the kiddos!
"Don't fall prey to the belief that you have the 'earn your dues.' Know your worth from the start."

Natalie Olson is your Numerologist and philosopher-friend with a passion for decoding the mystery of life. She’s here to help you unearth your numbers, or your superpowers (hidden in your birth name and birth date) so you can create the life you really want.
For over a decade, Nat has been coaching individuals in her private Numerology practice. She’s become the secret weapon for best-selling authors, Wall-street financiers and CEO’s of multi-million dollar companies. She has also been a featured columnist for the largest online Numerology and Spiritual community in the world, Numerologist.com, with over 2 million trusted viewers and readers. In 2019 Nat launched two Numerology programs with the Numerologist.com team to help reach more people with this life-changing ancient wisdom!
“Honoring yourself and advocating for ourselves in our day-to-day lives is where so many magical things happen.”
How Natalie used her life path number to understand her purpose and course correct her life. (15:00)
Natalie’s life path number is 8: the number of leaders, authority, and CEOs. The deeper spiritual undertones is that the challenge and mission of 8s is being empowered and taking power back. Natalie was at the time under the thumb of authority figures and felt disempowered in her career. By understanding the energy she was meant to step into, she moved past the energy of feeling like she would never make it on her own and she went out and pursued her own life.
“When you learn about your numerology chart, you’ll understand that the things you thought were weird or burdensome about you are actually what make you special.”
How can business owners use numerology to understand themselves and their businesses? (18:16)
The root of this work is knowing yourself. The common denominator among successful people who benefit from this work is that people can be really successful from the outside, but if they’re not honoring the way they were designed, they’re still experiencing stress and unhappiness.
“The key here is we have to honor how we’re designed. When we do that, we’re able to click into the slipstream of our business.”
How numerology can help you understand your relationships and create them authentically from who you are. (42:00)
After a painful breakup, Natalie brainstormed her ideal partner after looking at her chart from the lens of relationships. Things she had never given herself permission to honor before. And because of that, she manifested an incredible partner who shares her values.
“We know things about ourselves in private, but actually writing it down and actively honoring it is where the transformation happens and the miracles occur.”

Just a reminder that Very Special Episodes come to you every 11 episodes & they’re a bit more casual, behind the scenes, off topic, and I always have a good time ;)
Today is a Very Special Episode, which means I’m sharing my favorite things at the moment and answering YOUR questions! And then toward the end of the episode I’m going to share an important tool for tapping into your intuition so your business can grow and you can just feel all-around amazing.
Let’s start with favorite things.
Favorite things:These past few weeks have been, let’s just say, intense... And I’m recording in real time right now so, if you’re listening to this near the publish date - April 22nd… then maybe you feel this too.
We actually just found out that our tiny chihuahua mix Iki may have to get surgery so my ears are perked for healing magick or pet-centered magick to help him heal. If you know of anything, please DM me on Instagram...
Anyways, I’ve really been relying on my self-care and taking time for the things that have been speaking to my heart.
I finally found a massage therapist that’s walking distance from our apartment that is fantastic & specializes in working on local people instead of tourists. That feels pretty big.
Favorite Thing #1: This One Wild and Precious Life: The Path Back to Connection in a Fractured World
My most favorite thing right now is Sarah Wilson’s new book, This One Wild and Precious Life: The Path Back to Connection in a Fractured World.
This was a book that I was so sad to complete.
I’ve been a Sarah Wilson fan girl for years. I found her with her I Quit Sugar movement & empire, and then was blown away by her book, First, We Make the Beast Beautiful: A New Story about Anxiety.
The audiobook is free to listen to This One Wild and Precious Life if you have a scribd account so please, go listen.
Favorite Thing #2: Simple Shui Group Consult
I’m taking a feng shui group course with episode 34 guest, Amanda Gibby Peters of Simple Shui. It’s good.
It’s a deeper than surface level dive into feng shui with lots of room to asked personalized questions about our spaces.
And I wanted to share on one of the lessons.
She gives an entire lesson to CLUTTER.
We all know it’s not good. But we all have it, right?? (Or at least most of us.)
Some practical tips Amanda gave was to ask these questions before buying something or bringing something home:
So good.
Favorite Things #3: Somatic Decolonization
This last month I hired Lettie Sullivan of the Goddess Ministry to lead my team through somatic decolonization work.
It’s been something that’s become blaringly obvious that it’s needed in the last couple months & I was so grateful to hire her at the end of March because a lot of shit got kicked up this month. Having Lettie to guide us in real time was really really useful.
If anyone hasn’t really dug into anti-racism work feel free to steal Lettie’s advice & read or listen to My Grandmother's Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending Our Hearts and Bodies.
It’s a beautiful, compassionate, heart-opening book.
There are so many good quotes too, so here are a few.
“A key factor in the perpetuation of white-body supremacy is many people’s refusal to experience clean pain around the myth of race. Instead, usually out of fear, they choose the dirty pain of silence and avoidance and, invariably, prolong the pain.” ― Resmaa Menakem
“Years as a healer and trauma therapist have taught me that trauma isn’t destiny. The body, not the thinking brain, is where we experience most of our pain, pleasure, and joy, and where we process most of what happens to us. It is also where we do most of our healing, including our emotional and psychological healing. And it is where we experience resilience and a sense of flow.” ― Resmaa Menakem
“Especially want to draw white Americans’ attention to this. White fragility is a lie, a dodge, a myth, and a form of denial. White Americans can create culture that confronts and dismantles white-body supremacy. Any suggestion that they are unable to rise to this challenge is a lie. White Americans are anything but helpless or fragile; they are (of course) precisely as capable as other human beings. But they need to refuse to dodge the responsibility of confronting white-body supremacy—or the responsibility of growing up.” ― Resmaa Menakem
“We will not end white-body supremacy- or any other form of human evil- by trying to tear it to pieces. Instead, we can offer people better ways to belong, and better things to belong to. Instead of belonging to a race, we can belong to a culture. Each of us can also build our own capacity for genuine belonging.” ― Resmaa Menakem

Questions:
What is the #1 biggest mindset work everyone should do during a launch? Does it change from your first launch to later launches?
You talk a lot about systems and automations, I’m wondering what the easiest automations are for someone who is just starting to get systems into place in their business? Are there automations I can start doing today?
Easiest first one is a Lead Magnet & automated welcome email series!
Where do I find a good VA or online business manager? I’m having such a hard time finding the perfect person and I don’t know where to look.
My favorite ones are:

How can I make sure my business isn’t getting fucked over by the IG algorithm?

8 Phases of the Moon:If you haven’t yet, I really recommend downloading our free guide, the 8 Phases of a Numinous Launch. It’s all about how you can use the moon’s phases for each of your launches to empower you and make sure you are taking time to also reset and recoup after a crazy season in your business.
This month, I’ve been guiding the women in the Alchemical Business Intensive through rituals based on each phase of the moon. And multiple women have come to me saying they feel so much more intuitive and connected to not only nature and the world, but also to their business and their mission because they are taking this time to really connect with the moon on a somatic l
Camellia Dao-Ling is an Acupuncture Student and Africana Studies Scholar. She joins us today to talk about how to welcome abundance/prosperity in business with a core of integrity and commitment to liberation for oppressed peoples.
“There is the fundamental power imbalance of being able to access the benefits and beautiful parts of a culture without facing the violence that people embody marked by racism face.” - Camellia Dao-Ling
Examples of modalities people may not even realize are from oppressed cultures (24:18)
A lot of breathwork and what we call mindfulness nowadays has roots in Buddhism, Hinduism, and Taoism. Tai chi, chi gong, guasha crystal roller, tantra, jade egg, yoga -- often the roots are in Asian lineage traditions that are deeply religious, cultural, and spiritual. On a spiritual and physical level we (as humans) are so extremely similar. So of course, it really does work on everybody because we create a lot of differences in our heads. A pain point for a lot of the Pacific Islander and Asian people I know have been feeling like “wow our ancestral healing modalities are so popular, but why aren’t all of those people protecting our elders”.
“People can take the pretty parts of our culture without having to worry about leaving the house -- there’s a very deep sense of injustice.” - Camellia Dao-Ling
Recommendations for people who have been deeply shifted by the teachings of another oppressed culture - how they can share their transformation in a supportive way (30:08)
Is this a mish mash or is this a lineage? Any kind of mish mash evokes the culture buffet and someone just like flopping servings of a bunch of different things that all look good and then consuming them. Really going deep in one modality, is one starting place to really be honorable -- in that process to put in the time. Impatience and just wanting quick results is a very ego response and attitude. Humility and patience are such key spiritual precepts. Getting permission to share from a lineage bearer. Return of resources, contributing to elders in communities that are from the modality you use or a regular donation. Citing your sources. Choosing an accomplice role. Passing the mic and be willing to share an opportunity with a lineage bearer of that modality.
“The missing piece for people who have done those three checkpoints is the return of resources. That to me is key… I invite folks who are white acupuncturists to be regularly contributing to the Chinatown community for equitable development because the elders are often being displaced for gentrification.” - Camellia Dao-Ling
How can we use our businesses to support change (46:07)
Knowing who’s land you're occupying and how you can serve those land stewards because most of them are still fighting. Protect native species, plant native plants. Every paycheck send a tenth (tethe) back out to the land stewards and people of African descent who’s labor built the United States. Offering a sliding scale or ways to trade services. Progressively thinking forward (is this Is this accessible to everyone? Who am I missing?) Tending to your relationships (How am I treating myself? A contractor, employee, collaborator? What’s the process of our relationship? Am I treating other humans like humans, or a meal ticket?). Questioning who isn’t at the table and why may they not be at the table -- speak up about unfair exploitative dynamics. Take the time to do consistent social justice work and show up for racial justice.
“Extractive attitude that “only profit matters” that caring for relationships isn’t efficient -- that cheapens the quality of our lives. Tending to our relationships, making sure we’re paying the land stewards, honoring the people of African descent who’s labor created literally so many structures in the United States. And considering who isn’t at the table and why might they not be at the table?” - Camellia Dao-Ling
The sacredness of the mundane (52:54)
Doing simple things with great love. It’s not about having 30 crystals, spending thousands of dollars, and chanting for 3 hours. Sweeping the house and praying or being deeply rooted while breathing down into the earth is just as spiritual
“Trying to fufill our highest potential one day at a time imperfectly but with a lot of love and sincerity, letting go of the results and cleaning up our messes because we’re going to make mistakes and just trying to build a legacy that leaves this planet more just and loving than when we landed here. That to me is the most sacred way of living and it doesn’t have to be complicated.” - Camellia Dao-Ling

Brooke Adams Law is a writer, writing teacher and retreat leader who uses writing as a tool to help women step into sovereignty and reclaim their story. She joins us today to talk about how a book can help you in your business, how to tap into your creativity, and how to overcome what's holding you back from writing a book.
“Your desire to write is a calling that proves there is something you need to say.” - Brooke Adams Law
Why creative wounding prevents you from writing the book you want. (9:00)
Creative wounding and worthiness are the main two reasons why people don’t write a book even though they really want to. Common creative wounds stem from having your art or creative skills criticized, not seen, or overlooked. Additionally, many people (even highly qualified people) believe they aren’t good enough or worthy to write a book.
“The act of writing is what makes you a writer, not the book deal or agent or six-figure sales.” - Brooke Adams Law
The magical side to writing a book. (13:30)
When you feel creatively drained, it’s helpful to think of your writing as channelling from a deeper source instead of as all the words being made up in your head. Using magical practices, you can learn how to tap into the well of creativity even when it feels really dry. Writing a book is less about what you write and more about who you become during the process. So much magic happens along the way.
“Who are you going to become in the process of writing?” - Brooke Adams Law
How to get in a creative space when you don’t know what to write. (15:15)
Pause working on whatever you’re working on and take a short break, anywhere from a day to a week. Spend time intentionally filling your creative well, whether that’s going for walks, being by the water, using tarot cards, being with friends. Doing these things might not feel productive but they are vital to restoring your mental and emotional energy for your project. Make your writing intentionally spiritual. Relate to your creativity as an entity in itself and don’t be afraid to say “hi!” to it every now and then!
“Where and when has something you’ve created not been seen or understood, or been outright criticized?” - Brooke Adams Law
How to use a book to make sales. (39:00)
As an entrepreneur, you offer different levels of transformation for you clients depending on how you work with them: whether it’s through lead magnets, podcasts, 1:1 coaching, etc. Reading your book, they will go through one level of transformation with you… and it will open a door for them to want to work with you more deeply going forward. Your book is like a test run of your work, and some people will read it with the intention of seeing if you’ll be a good fit to work together.
