This is the 2nd part of my original recording with Rob Goodknight, my audio engineer and friend, who helped me get the podcast started and provided a studio for our first several recordings. After explaining RFT in the first EXTRA segment, here we turn our focus to outlining the core processes of ACT, Acceptance, Defusion, Mindfulness, Self-as-Context, Values, and Committed Actions. I hope you enjoy our discussion and WARNING, there is some vulgar language used, but I know some people prefer a more down-to-Earth discussion of these kinds of concepts, so hope you enjoy. Let me know if you do (or don't)!

So, Rob Goodknight, my audio engineer and friend, helped me get the podcast started and the first several episodes/series were recorded in his studio. This is from one of the first times we ever recorded, and it was just me and Rob talking about RFT, or Relational Frame Theory, the neurolinguistic theory behind the 6 core processes of ACT, or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which include Acceptance, Defusion, Mindfulness, Self-as-Context, Values, and Committed Action. This recording is more raunchy and down-to-earth than many others; let me know if you prefer this style of conversation over the more academic ones, as well as if you have a medical background or not. Be Curious.

Hope you enjoyed my conversation with Jim Murphy about his book, Inner Excellence, and its convergence with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Here we present some of our closing thoughts, followed by a song, "Found," by Jared Foos, off his inaugural solo album, "Who Loves You Baby." ENJOY and Spread the word about Jared, he's mega-talented and needs more exposure. And send me any songs or artists that need more exposure and I'll do what I can to feature them in my series.

Here, Jim talks about his underlying principles of Inner Excellence. He has taken a lot of core concepts of psychology and sports psychology, and used some of his experience with neurolinguistics to supplement what he has learned, imploring patients to reprogram their subconscious, let go of self-centeredness and be selfless to reduce anxiety, and suspend their judgment. Be Open. Be Curious. Be Inquisitive.

Here, Jim and I outline Inner Excellence alongside ACT therapy and the concepts that predecess it. It's so interesting to me that so many of our ideas seem to converge despite coming from drastically different backgrounds. It's also telling that someone who works with high-performance athletes from around the world is utilizing some of the same concepts I am utilizing with my patients, almost as if this is a manual for how to live your best life, regardless of your athletic abilities. Enjoy!

Here, I introduce this series' topic, ACT, through an interview with mental coach, Jim Murphy, whose book, Inner Excellence, and work, has inspired so many to be their best selves. Here, I start out with my typical rant on the topic, followed by a guest introduction and background. Hope you enjoy our conversations.

Here, Dr. Gadh first talks about a necessary step to rectifying the system we currently operate within, in campaign finance reform, and electing conscientious people into positions of power. We then give some of our closing thoughts and wrap up with a mix created by Dr. Gadh's alter ego, DJ Dr. Gadh, titled "Apni Jaise remix," and available on Soundcloud by searching DJ Dr. Gadh, or 'DJGadisa.' Hope you enjoy.

This is the newest release from RenegadePsych and is on a slightly different topic, ACT therapy. I interview Jim Murphy, a renowned high-performance athletes mental coach who has written an incredibly moving and motivating book, Inner Excellence, summarizing what he has learned in his personal and professional journey. Though he does not have a background in ACT, so many of the concepts overlap. The series is supplemented by one of my initial recordings with Rob Goodknight discussing RFT, or Relational Frame Theory, the theory behind ACT, or Acceptance and Commitment Theory. We talk about how understanding the way that our minds work can lead to skills that, when practiced, can lead to a more fulfilling, and ultimately, more successful life. Hope you enjoy!

In this segment, Dr. Gadh and I discuss his research on lithium's effects on reducing COVID infection severity and its' ability to keep our immune responses within the guardrails. He tells us about a co-authored Spanish study in which 14 lithium-treated, COVID-hospitalized patients are compared to 14 non-lithium-treated COVID-hospitalzied patients, where the lithium group has much better outcomes. That number of patients is not very impressive, but the blood work they did WAS impressive; they took levels of 18 different cytokines, or inflammatory markers, that lead to respiratory congestion and eventually impair oxygen-carbon dioxide exchange in the lungs, in all of these patients and showed reductions in EVERY CYTOKINE in the lithium-treated group, providing further explanation of how and why it exerts its immune benefits. We further talk about lithium's known benefits in Herpes and HIV, and later discuss our own personal experiences taking low dose lithium, reducing depressive symptoms and reducing migraine intensity and frequency.

Dr. Gadh and I review his evidence of the benefits of using low doses of lithium to reduce impulsivity that may lead to substance use relapse, as well as the use of low doses of (primarily) stimulants for untreated or undertreated ADHD in the addiction setting. The reality of our current drug epidemic is: WHAT WE'RE DOING IS NOT WORKING. These treatments, in addition to a holistic, individualized, yet comprehensive approach to treating physical pain and mental trauma, show tremendous promise in treating addiction, and hopefully can be part of our society's solution to the illicit drug epidemic, which has killed well over a million people since 1999, and is currently taking more than 110,000 lives annually.
