Domestic violence is rooted in power and control, and a woman’s reproductive system is often targeted by abusive partners to eliminate her bodily autonomy and further diminish her being. Non-consensual and/or unprotected sex, restricted access to contraception, and other forms of abuse that either encourage pregnancy or deny it are all means to an end in abuse through reproductive control. Our guest, Laramie Gorbett of the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault, walks us through the worldwide assault on the bodies of women, how this abuse is compounded by intersectionality, the impact of reproductive control on people who are trans or non-binary, and the suffering of children who are born out of these abusive behaviors.
