In late August of 1775, the Continental Siege of Boston keeps the British from moving in or out of the city by land. However, the British Navy controls the water. General Washington begins to commission ships to interdict merchant vessels trying to supply the British garrison in Boston. The first ship, the Hannah. Is commissioned on Aug. 24, 1775.
