Mathivaanan, our correspondent in Sri Lanka, compiled a report focusing on the current situation in Sri Lanka after Easter Day bombing.

இலங்கையில் தொடர் குண்டுத்தாக்குதல்கள் இடம்பெற்று இரண்டு வாரங்கள் ஆகிவிட்ட நிலையில் அங்குள்ள நிலைமை தொடர்பில் இன்றைய பார்வைகள் நிகழ்ச்சியை முன்வைக்கிறார் நமது இலங்கைச் செய்தியாளர் மதிவாணன்.

Tamil Arts and Culture Association presents "Sydney Chithirai Festival" at Stanhope Gardens.  This feature gives you a wrap up of this festival. 

தமிழ் கலை மற்றும் பண்பாட்டுக் கழகம் ஆண்டுதோறும் நடத்தி வரும் "சிட்னியில் சித்திரைத் திருவிழா"  இந்த வருடம் Stanhope Gardensல் உள்ள Blacktown Leisure Centreல் இன்று கோலாகலமாக நடைபெற்றது.  இந்த நிகழ்ச்சி பற்றிய விவரணம் தயாரித்து வழங்குகிறார் செல்வி. 

Dr. Mahesh Radhakrishnan has been involved in documenting the language and the cultural and expressive practices of Portuguese speakers in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka Portuguese is a Portuguese-lexified creole language resulting from the contact of Portuguese with other languages particularly Tamil and Sinhala and it is one variety of a family of creole languages known as Indo-Portuguese. His research work largely focused on the Portuguese Burgher communities in the east and north of Sri Lanka, particularly Batticaloa and Amparai districts, Trincomalee and Jaffna.

His work particularity focused on the tradition of song, music and dance known as the ‘káfriinha’ which has had a strong influence and historic connections with Sri Lankan ‘baila’ music. Several recordings were made of Portuguese Burgher performance traditions. In addition, one recording was also made of a performance by Afro-Sri Lankans from Puttalam who no longer speak Sri Lanka Portuguese but maintain the use of it in their song, music and dance tradition known as ‘manja’.

இலங்கையில் இன்றும் போர்த்துக்கீசிய மொழி பேசும் மக்கள் தம் கலாச்சார அடையாளத்தோடு வாழ்கிறார்கள்.  அவர்களது மொழி, பேசும் கலாச்சாரம், மற்றும் வெளிப்படையான வாழ்க்கை முறைகளை ஆவணப்படுத்தும் திட்டத்தில் முனைவர் மகேஷ் ராதாகிருஷ்ணன் ஈடுபட்டிருந்தார். இலங்கையின் கிழக்கிலும் மற்றும் வடக்கிலும், குறிப்பாக மட்டக்களப்பு, அம்பாறை, திருகோணமலை மற்றும் யாழ்ப்பாண மாவட்டங்களிலுள்ள போர்த்துகீசிய சமூகங்களில் அவரது ஆராய்ச்சிகள் கவனம் செலுத்துகின்றன.

Tamil Arts and Culture Association (TACA, Sydney) Inc. organises a day-long mega event called “Sydney Chithirai Festival” on Sunday the 5th May 2019 at Blacktown Leisure Centre, Stanhope for the consecutive 8th year.

Major highlights of the 2019 Sydney Chithirai festival will be the Tamil folk music/dance performance by the reputed Vijay TV Super Singer fame Senthil Ganesh and Rajalakshmi troupe from Tamilnadu, says Mr Anagan Babu, President, TACA. Produced by RaySel.

நாளை மறுநாள் ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை (மே 5) சிட்னி Blacktown Leisure Centre இல், காலை 10 மணி முதல் 6 மணிவரை 8வது ஆண்டாக, தமிழ்க் கலை மற்றும் பண்பாட்டுக்கழகத்தின் நாள் முழுக்கத் தமிழர்களின் கொண்டாட்டமான சித்திரைத் திருவிழா நடைபெறுகிறது.

There's no other figure that looms larger over the Liberal Party of Australia than Sir Robert Menzies.

In fact few Australians have gained such fame, or held such influence, over the nation than the former Liberal prime minister.

He created the party, was Australia's longest serving prime minister and is bound to be quoted or referred to by Liberal candidates during the federal election campaign.

Scott Morrison became Australia's 30th prime minister in August last year when the Liberal Party voted him in as leader after a very public and acrimonious leadership spill.

He came into the job after the conservative wing of the party grew frustrated with Malcolm Turnbull's inability to pass his signature energy and tax-cut policies.

He appears to have unified the Liberal Party once again, however some are not sure he'll be able to guide the Coalition to victory at the election.

ஆஸ்திரேலிய Liberal (லிபரல்) கட்சி குறித்துப் பேசுவதென்றால், Sir Robert Menzies (றொபேர்ட் மென்சீஸ்) குறித்து கருத்து சொல்லாமல் தவிர்க்க முடியாது.  அவரைப் போன்று வேறு எந்த ஆஸ்திரேலியரும் அவரைப் போன்று புகழோ செல்வாக்கோ பெற்றதில்லை.

அவர் Liberal கட்சியை உருவாக்கி, ஆஸ்திரேலியாவின் பிரதமராக மிக நீண்ட காலம் கடமையாற்றியவர் மட்டுமல்ல, தேர்தல் பிரச்சாரத்தின் போது Liberal கட்சி வேட்பாளர்களால் அதிகளாவில் மேற்கோள் காட்டப்படுபவர்.

கடந்த ஆண்டு ஆகஸ்ட் மாதம், அப்போதைய தலைவர் Malcolm Turnbull ஆற்றல் மற்றும் வரிக் குறைப்புக் கொள்கைகளை நிறைவேற்ற முடியாத நிலை உருவான போது Liberal கட்சியின் தலமை குறித்து கடும் போட்டி எழுந்தது.  அதைத் தொடர்ந்து, Scott Morrison (ஸ்காட் மோரிசன்) ஆஸ்திரேலியாவின் 30 வது பிரதம மந்திரியாக ஆனார்.
