Every year, Lunar New Year is celebrated by millions across the globe, and is the largest multicultural celebration in Australia.  It marks the turn of the Lunar calendar in China, Vietnam and Korea, the date of which is dictated by the moon.

Each year is marked by one of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac and 2019 marks the year of the pig.  Pigs are known to be smart, prosperous and lucky.  But, is it liked by everyone?  With comments from Sentha Roga, a Tamil speaking of Chinese and Indian heritage, Kulasegaram Sanchayan explores.

சீனா, வியட்நாம், கொரியா ஆகிய நாடு மக்கள் சந்திரனை அடிப்படையாக வைத்த நாட்காட்டி முறைகளைப் பயன்படுத்துகிறார்கள்.  சந்திர புத்தாண்டு உலகெங்கிலும் மில்லியன் கணக்கான மக்களால் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது, ஆஸ்திரேலியாவின் மிகப்பெரிய பண்பாட்டுக் கொண்டாட்டம் இதுவாகும்.  

சீன ராசியில், ஒவ்வொரு வருடத்தையும் 12 விலங்குகளில் ஒன்று அடையாளப்படுத்துகிறது.  2019 ஆம் ஆண்டின் அடையாளம் – பன்றி.  பன்றிகள் புத்திசாலித்தனம் கொண்டவை, நல்வாய்ப்பையும் செழிப்பான வாழ்வையும் அவை பெற்றுத் தரும் என்று சீனர்கள் நம்புகிறார்கள்.  அந்த நம்பிக்கை எல்லாரிடத்திலும் இருக்கிறதா என்று, சீனப் பின்னணி கொண்ட, தமிழ் பேசுபவரான சேந்தா ரோகாவின் கருத்துகளுடன் ஆராய்கிறார் குலசேகரம் சஞ்சயன்.

The NSW Government is helping ease the cost of living with more than 40 rebates and savings.  

The cost of living service gives individuals access to ‘cost of living specialists’ who help do the heavy lifting when it comes to applying for any of the over 40 NSW government-led rebate and refund measures.

These include the My CTP Green Slip, My Active Kids, My Toll Relief, and My Family Energy Rebate.

Ranked 102 in the world, Prajnesh Gunneswaran is currently the number 1 ranked Indian tennis player. The 29 year old from Chennai, coached by Bjorn Simon, climbed more than 120 spot in 2018 and recently qualified for his first ever main draw of a Grand Slam at the Australian Open, where he lost in straight sets to American Frances Tiafoe.
In this one - to - one interview with Dario Castaldo –SBS Italian(dubbed in Tamil), he talks about his life and his upbringing, touching on the current shape of Indian tennis  and about what it means for him to be the best tennis player in such a big country.

The annual Index assesses levels of public sector corruption in 180 countries.

While Australia hasn't dropped any places since last year, some say it's failure to climb the ranks reflects a need for stronger anti-corruption measures.

ஊழல் அற்ற நாடுகளின் உலக தர வரிசையில், இந்த வருடமும் ஆஸ்திரேலியா 13வது இடத்தில் உள்ளது.  Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index என்று 180 நாடுகளின் பொதுத் துறைகளில் ஊழல் செயற்பாடுகளின் அளவுகளை மதிப்பிடும் தர வரிசையில், கடந்த ஆண்டைப் போலவே, ஆஸ்திரேலியா மீண்டும் 13வது இடத்தில் உள்ளது. 

அதில் முன்னேற்றம் இல்லை என்பதே கவலைக்குரியது என்றும் ஊழல் எதிர்ப்பு நடவடிக்கைகளில் கவனம் தேவை என்றும் ஆர்வலர்கள் கூறுகிறார்கள்.

Chinnapillai is receiving Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian awards, for social services. She is from a small village near Madurai, Tamil Nadu. She started a very successful banking system in the villages in Tamilnadu and is a champion trying to reduce poverty and debt grievances by empowering women. The Kalanjiam, microcredit movement received a huge boost from her dedication and contributions, reaching out to many women living under poverty. RaySel spoke to Chinnapillai.

இந்திய அரசு வழங்கும் மதிப்புமிகு விருதுகளில் ஒன்றான பத்மஸ்ரீ விருதைப் பெறுகிறார் தமிழ்நாட்டின் “மதுரை” சின்னப்பிள்ளை அவர்கள். எளிய, கிராமத்துப் பெண்மணியான,  67 வயதாகும் சின்னப்பிள்ளை செய்த சமூக சேவை நம்மையும் வியக்கவைக்கிறது. பல விருதுகளை வாங்கிக் குவித்துவரும் “மதுரை” சின்னப்பிள்ளையுடன் உரையாடுகிறார் றைசெல்.
