Based on a true story, Rabbit-Proof Fence (dir. Phillip Noyce, 2002) is about three children who escape from Moore River Native Settlement in Western Australia in 1931 and embark on a 1500-mile journey by foot. The film deals with one of the darkest chapters of the modern history of Australia.It may also be noted here that the Australian Government offered its apology to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within six years after the release of this film.In this episode on Australian Cinema, Dr Dhamu Pongiyannan presents an analysis of this iconic Australian film for SBS Tamil listeners.

The banking royal commission has delivered a scathing verdict of a greed-driven industry in its final report, recommending a raft of changes designed to better protect consumers and improve regulation. The commission has referred 24 cases of potentially criminal activity to the responsible regulators for further investigation, but isn't naming names. Consumer and advocacy groups have welcomed some of the key recommendations of the banking royal commission. The commission brought attention to the financial sector's problems and commissioner Kenneth Hayne's 76 recommendations ensure that focus will continue.
