Alpa Shah PhD is Associate Professor – Reader in Anthropology at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her latest book Nightmarch: Among India’s Revolutionary Guerrillas has been published by Hurst. Alpa Shah spent 18 months as a participant observer in Jharkhand and lived among Adivasis, tribal peoples outside the caste system.  Her book explains why people from very different backgrounds have come together to take up arms to fight for a fairer society in the world’s longest standing insurgency, and how they may be undermining their own aims. Alpa Shah spoke to RaySel about the reasons for studying the Adivasi communities and their link with Naxalites.

தமிழ்நாட்டின் தூத்துக்குடியில் கடந்த மே மாதம் நடைபெற்ற வேதாந்தா குழுமத்தின் ஸ்டெர்லைட் ஆலையை மூடக்கோரி நடந்த போராட்டத்தில் நடத்தபட்ட போலீஸார் துப்பாக்கிச் சூட்டில் பலியான 13 பேரில் 12 பேர்களின் தலை, மார்பில் தோட்டாக்கள் பாய்ந்துள்ளது.  இதில் பாதிப்பேருக்கு பின்புறத்திலிருந்து துப்பாக்கித் தோட்டா பாய்ந்ததாக பிரேதப்பரிசோதனை அறிக்கைகள் தெரிவிக்கின்றன. பல கேள்விகளை எழுப்பும் இந்த செய்தியை விவரணமாக முன்வைக்கிறார் நமது தமிழக செய்தியாளர் ராஜ்.

Private health insurance premiums are set to rise by 3.25 per cent, the lowest increase in almost two decades.

An ageing population and rising health care costs have been blamed for the rise, and consumer groups hope out-of-pocket costs will be cut to offset the increase.
