A constitutional crisis in Sri Lanka has deepened as President Maithripala Sirisena dissolved the parliament. However, UNP & TNA announced a legal challenge to President’s sacking of the parliament. N. Vithyatharan, Editor of Kalaikathir, spoke to RaySel and discussed the constitutional crisis and the political implications on the Tamils’ ethnic issue.

In the year 2009 Prof Elizabeth Helen Blackburn and her team won the Nobel Prize. They made a discovery that explained how DNA eventually begins to deteriorate and how that ages us. They found out that young DNA is protected by little 'caps', called telomeres, at the end of our chromosomes.  These caps, with the help of an enzyme called telomerase, stop our chromosomes from deteriorating.   Telomeres also thought to play a key role in cancers. If telomerase can be controlled these cancers may be preventable in the future. Remadevi Dhanasekar of 4EB of Tamil radio service explains the achievements of Elizabeth Helen Blackburn in “Namma Australia”.

பேராசிரியர் எலிசபெத் ஹெலன் பிளாக்பேர்ன் மற்றும் அவரது குழுவினர் மருத்துவ துறை சார்ந்த நோபல் பரிசினை 2009 ஆம் ஆண்டில் பெற்றனர். குரோமோசோமின் வால் பகுதியில் இருக்கும் டெலோமியர் குரோமோசோம்களைக் கட்டுபடுத்தும் கருவி என்பதும், டெலோமியரின்  நீளம் குறைந்தால் உடல் தளர்ந்து வயதான தோற்றம் தரும் என்றும் கண்டுபிடித்தனர்.  அத்துடன் டெலோமியரில் இருக்கும் டெலாமீரஸ் என்ற டி.என்.ஏ குரோமோசோம்களை உடையாமல் தடுப்பதையும் கண்டுபிடித்தனர். இந்த டெலோமியரின் நீளத்தை குறைக்கும் சூட்சுமத்தை கண்டுபிடித்து விட்டால் அறுவை சிகிச்சை ஏதும் இல்லாமலேயே புற்று நோயிலிருந்து குணம் பெற வாய்ப்பிருக்கிறது என்று நம்பப்படுகிறது. “நம்ம ஆஸ்திரேலியா” நிகழ்ச்சி மூலம் எலிசபெத் பிளாக்பேர்ன் குறித்த தகவலை முன்வைக்கிறார்  4EB தமிழ் ஒலிபரப்பின் ரமாதேவி தனசேகர் அவர்கள்.
