Every culture has a collection of wise sayings that offer advice about how to live our life. These sayings, known as 'proverbs,' may have meant more than the simple words that meet our eyes.  Some proverbs have lost their true meaning over the past centuries.  In this series, Dr.Vjayalakshmi Ramasamy takes a few misused or misunderstood proverbs and explores.

நமது அன்றாட வாழ்வில் பழமொழிகளைப் பயன்படுத்துவோம். ஆனால் அவற்றின் அர்த்தத்தை சரியாகப் புரிந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறோமா என்பது சந்தேகமே. காரணம், பல பழமொழிகளின் அர்த்தங்கள் காலப்போக்கில் திரிபடைந்து தவறாக பயன்படுத்தப்படுகின்றன. அப்படியான ஒரு பழிமொழியையும், அதன் உண்மையான அர்த்தத்தையும் விளக்குகிறார் முனைவர் விஜயலக்ஷ்மி ராமசாமி.

Poovulagaik Kattralum Kettalum is an anthology of Aboriginal poems in Tamil. Azhiyal who translated them from English to Tamil is a prominent writer in Australia. She translated 36 selected poems written by poets with Aboriginal backgrounds. Bob Randall’s  “Veddi Veelththuthal”  from Azhiyal’s “Poovulagaik Kattralum Kettalum”.

ஆழியாள் என்று இலக்கியதளத்தில் அறியப்படும் மதுபாஷினி அவர்களின் சமீபத்திய பங்களிப்பு  “பூவுலகைக் கற்றலும் கேட்டலும்” எனும் கவிதைத் தொகுப்பு (அணங்கு பெண்ணியப் பதிப்பகம்). தமிழில் மொழிபெயர்க்கப்பட்டிருக்கும் ஆஸ்திரேலிய பூர்வீக மக்களின் கவிதைத் தொகுப்பு நூலிலிருந்து Bob Randall அவர்களின்   “வெட்டி வீழ்த்துதல்” எனும்கவிதையை நமக்காக வாசிக்கிறார் ஆழியாள்.  

Around one in five Australians experience mental illness every year. Despite the scale of the problem – the stigma remains. As October is a mental health month, Maheswaran Prabaharan is speaking to psychiatrists Dr Sivaruby Thavakulasingam regarding Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Dr. Sivaruby Thavakulasingam is a locally trained consultant psychiatrist who is a staff specialist at Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District and is a visiting medical officer (VMO) at St John of God Richmond Hospital. Dr Thavakulasingam’s private practice rooms are located in Kingswood. She specialises in treating anxiety disorders including PTSD, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, ADHD, perinatal psychiatry and drug and alcohol related disorders. Dr. Sivaruby Thavakulasingam is trained in a range of psychotherapies such as conversational model of psychotherapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as well as various pharmacotherapies.

மனநலம் பற்றிய விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்தும் நோக்குடன் October மாதத்தை மனநல மாதமாக அரசு பிரகடனப்படுத்தியுள்ளது. இதன் பின்னணியில் மனநல மருத்துவர் Dr சிவரூபி தவகுலசிங்கம், Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) பற்றி விளக்குகிறார். அவருடன் உரையாடியவர் மகேஸ்வரன் பிரபாகரன்.

ஆளுநரின் பணிகளில் தலையிட்டதாக நக்கீரன் இதழின் ஆசிரியரும் மூத்த பத்திரிகையாளருமான கோபால் நேற்று காலை சென்னை விமான நிலையத்தில் கைது செய்யப்பட்டார்.  ஆளுநரின் பணிகளில் தலையிட்டதாக அவர் மீது மீது ஜாம்பஜார் காவல் நிலையத்தில் வழக்கு பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டது. ஆனால், உண்மையில் நக்கீரன்' கோபாலின் கைதுக்குப் பின்னணியில், நக்கீரன் இதழில் தமிழக ஆளுநர் பன்வாரிலால் புரோகித் குறித்து வெளிவந்த ஒரு கட்டுரையே காரணம் எனத் தகவல் வெளியானது. அவரின் கைதுக்கு தமிழகத்தை சேர்ந்த ஊடகங்கள் மற்றும் தமிழக அரசியல் கட்சி தலைவர்கள் தங்கள் கடும் கண்டனத்தை தெரிவித்தனர். மேலும் பத்திரிகை ஆசிரியர் ஒருவர் "கவர் ஸ்டோரி"காக கைது செய்யப்பட்டது நடுநிலையாளர்களுக்கும் அதிர்ச்சியை ஏற்படுத்தியது.

நக்கீரன் கோபால் சிறையில் அடைக்கப்படுவர் என்று எதிர்பார்க்கப்பட்ட நிலையில், அவரை போலீஸ் காவலில் வைக்க முடியாது என எழும்பூர் நீதிமன்றம் விடுவித்தது.
