Australia’s First Peoples are the world’s oldest living civilization dating back some 50,000 years according to a recent genetic study by an international team of academics.

Yet, many Australians know little about the history of our First Peoples.

The 2014 Australian Reconciliation Barometer shows only 30 per cent of Australians consider themselves knowledgeable of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories.

Indigenous Australians are people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent, together they form three per cent of the national population, based on the 2011 Census.

The 1788 European settlement resulted in a series of discriminatory policies against the traditional owners of the land with devastating effects on their civil rights and the survival of traditions, culture and languages.

Whilst thousands of temples in South India perform Kumbhabhishekham - a ritual to homogenize, synergize and unite the mystic powers of the deity, once every twelve years, when a temple in Pondicherry, India performed it the event attracted wide publicity.

Kulasegaram Sanchayan explores the history behind this story with researcher, writer and documentary maker Kombai S. Anwar, whose documentary titled "Yadhum" - which chronicles the roots of Tamil Muslims.

ஒரே நாடு ஒரே தேர்தல் என்ற கொள்கையில் இந்தியாவில் அடுத்த ஆண்டு நடைபெறவிருக்கும் நாடாளுமன்றத் தேர்தலுடன் தமிழக சட்டசபைக்கும் தேர்தல் நடத்த ஆளும் பாரதிய ஜனதா கட்சி திட்டமிடுகிறது. ஆனால் தமிழக ஆளும் கட்சியான அதிமுக இதற்கு கடும் எதிர்ப்பு தெரிவிக்கிறது. இது குறித்த விவரணத்தை முன்வைக்கிறார் நமது தமிழக செய்தியாளர் ராஜ்.  

The Australian visa changes came into effect on 1 July affect prospective skilled migration visa applicants or points-test based visa applications. Bavithra Varathalingham who specialised in public policy explains it in “Namma Australia”.   -

The Australian writer Patrick White has been awarded the 1973 Nobel Literature Prize "for an epic and psychological narrative art which has introduced a new continent into literature", as it says in the Swedish Academy's citation.  His writing style used humour, colourful prose, shifting narrative voices and a stream of consciousness techniques. Patrick White, for the first time, has given the continent of Australia an authentic voice that carries across the world, at the same time as his achievement contributes to the development, both artistic and about ideas of contemporary literature.  Remadevi Dhanasekar explains the contributions of Patrick White in “Namma Australia”.

இலக்கியத்துறை சார்ந்த  நோபல் பரிசினை பெற்ற முதல் ஆஸ்திரேலியர் என்ற பெருமைக்குரியவர் பேட்ரிக் விக்டர் மார்டிண்டேல் ஒயிட்.  பேட்ரிக் ஒயிட் என்று அழைக்கப்பட்ட இவர், புதினம், சிறு கதைகள் தொகுப்பு, சுயசரிதை, நாடகம், திரைக்கதை என இலக்கியத்தின் பக்கங்கள் அனைத்திலும் பங்களித்தவர். 1973-ம் ஆண்டு இலக்கியத்திற்கான நோபல் பரிசினை பெற்றார்.  புதினம் மற்றும் நாடக எழுத்தாளராகிய பேட்ரிக் ஒயிட் அவர்கள் “உளவியலோடு காவியம் கலந்த கலையை  இலக்கியத்தின் பெரும் பகுதியாக அறிமுகப்படுத்தியிருக்கிறார்” என்று நோபல் பரிசினை வழங்கிய சுவீடிஷ் அகெடெமி குறிப்பிட்டது சிறப்பிற்குரியது.
