ஆஸ்திரேலியாவில் ஒவ்வொரு மாநிலமும் ஒருமுறை மட்டுமே பயன்படுத்தும் பிளாஸ்டிக் பைகளை தடை செய்துவருகின்றன. குறிப்பாக Victoria மாநிலத்தில் இந்த ஆண்டு இறுதிக்குள் , ஜூலை மாதம் ஒன்றாம் தேதி முதல் Queensland மற்றும் மேற்கு ஆஸ்திரேலியா மாநிலங்களில் தடை நடைமுறைக்கு வருகிறது. ஏற்கனவே இந்த தடை ACT எனப்படும் கன்பரா, தெற்கு ஆஸ்திரேலியா, Tasmania மாநிலங்களில் நடைமுறையில் உள்ளன. NSW மாநிலத்தில் Coles and Woolworths எனும் பெரும் நிறுவனங்கள் பிளாஸ்டிக் பைகளை தடை செய்வதற்கு நாள் குறித்துவிட்டன.

A nationwide survey shows a majority of Australians now think the country's immigration intake is too high.

The telephone and online survey of 1,200 people by the Sydney-based Lowy Institute has found 54 per cent of the population feels the annual intake is too much.

Pavannan is a Tamil writer. He belongs to a family of short story writers during the 1980s. His first short story was published in Dheepam which was authored by Na. Parthasarathy in the year 1982. He has been continuously writing on various platforms such as novels, songs for children, articles, short stories and movie reviews. For the past 20 years, he has translated short stories, novels and biographies. This is an interview with him.

சேலம்- சென்னை 8 வழி சாலைக்கு திட்டத்துக்கு தமிழகத்தில் எதிர்ப்பு ஏற்பட்டுள்ள நிலையில், இந்த திட்டத்துக்கு சேலம் மாவட்டத்தில், 29 கிராமங்களில், நிலங்களை கையகப்படுத்தும் பணி நேற்று முன் தினம் துவங்கியது. பல்வேறு அரசியல் கட்சிகள் மற்றும் நிலங்களை இழக்கும் விவசாயிகள் இந்த பசுமை வழி சாலை திட்டத்திற்கு தங்கள் எதிர்ப்பை தெரிவித்து வந்தாலும், இந்த திட்டத்தை செயல்படுத்த துவங்கியுள்ளது அரசு. இதே நேரம், பசுமை வழி சாலை திட்டத்திற்கு எதிராக போராடியவர்கள் பலர் கைது செய்யப்பட்டு வருகின்றனர். மத்திய மாநில அரசு திட்டங்களுக்கு எதிராக விவசாயிகளை போராடி தூண்டியதாக குற்றம் சாட்டப்பட்டு நடிகர் மன்சூர் அலிகான், பியூஷ் மனுஷ் மற்றும் வளர்மதி போன்றோர் கைது செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளனர். மேலும் போராடியவர்கள் பலரை போலீசார் கைது செய்துள்ளதாக போராட்டக்காரர்கள் குற்றம் சாட்டுகின்றனர்.
