Labor NSW organised a meeting with Southeast Asian journalists last Saturday.  Kulasegaram Sanchayan and RaySel who attended on behalf of SBS Tamil discuss what was discussed in that meeting.

Many of Australia's poker-machine clubs brand their venues as pillars of the community, but some of the biggest are also spending millions on themselves.

In a special investigation, SBS has obtained figures from clubs in one of Australia's most disadvantaged and ethnically diverse areas, where gambling addiction is rampant.

ஆஸ்திரேலியாவின் மிகவும் பின் தங்கிய மற்றும் பல்லின மக்கள் செறிந்து வாழும் இடங்களில் சூதாட்ட நிறுவனங்கள் தமது செயற்பாடுகளை அதிகரித்துள்ளதாகவும் சூதாட்டத்திற்கு அடிமையானவர்கள் பலர் அப்படியான இடங்களில் வாழ்வதாகவும் SBS செய்த ஆய்வு கண்டறிந்துள்ளது.

Elder abuse can be financial, physical or emotional, and analysts say it is a growing problem in Australia. Now, the Federal Government has announced it will formulate a national plan to combat the issue. The plan will be intended to tackle the neglect and exploitation of older people in all their forms. International Mother Language Day is an observance held annually on 21 February worldwide to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. It was first announced by UNESCO on 17 November 1999. Its observance was also formally recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution establishing 2008 as the International Year of Languages.  International Mother Language Day has been observed every year since 2000 February to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.The date represents the day in 1952 when students from different educational institutions such as Dhaka University , Jagannath University , Dhaka Medical College demonstrating for recognition of their language, Bengali, as one of the two national languages of the then Pakistan, were shot and killed by police in Dhaka (near High Court), which is the capital of present day Bangladesh.Our Producer, Kulasegaram Sanchayan presents this segment commemorating International Mother Language day, paying respect to all those who have sacrificed their lives in defending the honour of their mother language; with comments from Dr Selvarajah Marimuthu, President of Tamil Association of Western Australia; and T Thirunanthakumar, Vice President of NSW Federation of Community Schools. - உலகத் தாய்மொழி நாள் பெப்ரவரி 21 அன்று உலகம் முழுவதும் கொண்டாடப்பட்டு வருகின்றது. 1952 இல் இந்த நாளன்று அன்றைய கிழக்கு பாகித்தான் தலைநகர் தாக்காவில் வங்காள மொழியை அரசகரும மொழியாக ஆக்கக் கோரி நடத்தப்பட்ட போராட்டத்தின் போது உயிர்நீத்த நான்கு மாணவர்களின் நினைவாக இந்நாள் உலகளாவிய முறையில் மொழி தொடர்பாக நினைவு கூரப்படும் சிறப்பு நாளாகக் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.வங்காள தேச அரசாங்கத்தின் முயற்சிகள், அனைத்துலக அமைப்புகளது ஆதரவுகள் காரணமாக ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் கல்வி, அறிவியல், பண்பாட்டு நிறுவனத்தால் (UNESCO) ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் அமைப்பின் 1999, பெப்ரவரி 21 பொது மாநாட்டின் 30 ஆவது அமர்வில் இந்நாளை அனைத்துலக தாய் மொழிநாளாக அறிவித்தது. பல்வேறு சமூகங்களின் மொழி, பண்பாட்டுத் தனித்தன்மைகளைப் பேணுவதுடன் அவற்றுக்கிடையிலான ஒற்றுமையையும் உருவாக்கும் எண்ணத்தோடு இந்த நாளை யுனெஸ்க்கோ அறிவித்தது. 2000 ஆம் ஆண்டு முதல் இந்த நாளானது உலகம் முழுவதும் கொண்டாடப்பட்டு வருகின்றது.இந்த சர்வதேச தாய்மொழி தினத்தை சிறப்பிக்குமுகமாகவும் தங்கள் தாய் மொழியைப் பாதுகாக்க தங்களது உயிரைத் தியாகம் செய்த அனைவரையும் மதிக்குமுகமாகவும் ஆஸ்திரேலிய தமிழ்ச் சங்கத்தின் தலைவர் முனைவர் செல்வராஜா மாரிமுத்து மற்றும் NSW Federation of Community Schools உப தலைவர் திருநந்தக்குமார் ஆகியோரது கருத்துகளுடன் நிகழ்ச்சி படைக்கிறார் குலசேகரம் சஞ்சயன்.

Muruganantham is a social entrepreneur from rural village in Tamil Nadu. His life story has been made as a feature film “PadMan” in Hindi. It is based on Muruganantham, who invented low-cost sanitary pad making machine and created menstrual hygiene in his village. TIME magazine include him in the 100 Most Influential People in the world list. Muruganantham explains his involvement in “PadMan” movie. Produced by RaySel.
