A conference of Australian and international refugees, refugee advocates and analysts in the field has heard more refugee voices need to be a part of policy discussions on refugee issues.

More than 400 stakeholders have gathered in Melbourne as guests of the Refugee Council of Australia for the two-day (Feb. 13-14) conference.

அகதிகளுக்காகக் குரல் கொடுப்போர், அகதிகளுக்கு ஆலோசனை வழங்குவோர், ஆய்வாளர்கள், ஆஸ்திரேலிய மற்றும் சர்வதேச அகதிகள் என்று 400 பேர் பங்கு கொள்ளும் மாநாடு ஒன்று, நேற்றும் இன்றும் (பெப்ரவரி 13, 14) மெல்பேர்ணில் நடைபெற்றது.

Refugee Council of Australia என்ற அமைப்பு ஒழுங்கமைத்த இந்த மாநாட்டில் பங்கு கொண்ட அனைவரும், "அகதிகள் குறித்த கொள்கைகள் வகுப்பதில் அகதிகளின் கருத்துகள் உள்வாங்கப்பட வேண்டும்" என்று, ஓங்கிக் குரல் கொடுத்துள்ளார்கள்.  இது குறித்து Luke Waters மற்றும் Tara Cosoleto எழுதிய விவரணத்தைத் தமிழில் தருகிறார் குலசேகரம் சஞ்சயன்.

You may not know it, but around your home, shed or garage you could be collecting unwanted household chemicals or problem waste such as paints, batteries, gas bottles, fluorescent globes and tubes and smoke detectors.

Dr. Vijayalakshmi Navaneethakrishnan is a Tamil folk singer and composer and a renowned exponent of Tamil folk art. Together with her husband M. Navaneethakrishnan, she has conducted several years of research and study on Tamil folk music and dances and devoted a lifetime to research, collection, revival, and documentation of ancient Tamil folk songs and dances, many of which are fast becoming obsolete. The Government of India has announced Padma Shri, the nation's fourth highest civilian award, for the year 2018 to the singer for her extraordinary contribution in her field. 

Kulasegaram Sanchayan talks to Dr. Vijayalakshmi Navaneethakrishnan about the Padma Shri award and the controversy around Tamil poet and lyricist Vairamuthu's comment on Andal.   Dr. Vijayalakshmi Navaneethakrishnan's husband, Dr M Navaneethakrishnan joins in the conversation.

திருமதி விஜயலட்சுமி நவநீதகிருஷ்ணன் மட்டுமல்ல, அவரது துணைவர் முனைவர் நவநீதகிருஷ்ணனும் மறைந்துவரும் மரபார்ந்த நாட்டார் மக்களின், பழைமையான இசை, ஆடல், கூத்து உள்ளிட்ட கலைவடிவங்களை கண்டறிந்து ஆய்வு செய்யும் முயற்சியில் 1979 முதல் ஈடுபட்டு வருகின்றனர்.  இவர்கள் இருவரையும் தொலைபேசி வழியாக சந்தித்து, பத்ம ஸ்ரீ விருது குறித்தும், கவிஞர் வைரமுத்துவின் "தமிழை ஆண்டாள் கவிதை" குறித்த சர்ச்சை குறித்தும் குலசேகரம் சஞ்சயன் கேட்டறிந்து கொள்கிறார்.

Negative gearing is a form of financial leverage whereby an investor borrows money to acquire an income-producing investment property and expects the gross income generated by the investment, at least in the short term, to be less than the cost of owning and managing the investment, including depreciation and interest charged on the loan (but excluding capital repayments).
