Vaasanthi is a well-known Tamil writer, and columnist. Her books in English include “Cut-outs, Caste and Cine-stars: The World of Tamil Politics” and Amma: Jayalalithaa’s journey from Movie Star to Political Queen. Vaasanthi is an outspoken journalist and is well known for fearless writing. She spoke to RaySel on Hindutva, Sri Lankan Tamil issue, Tamil Nadu politics, Aanadal controversy and Dravidian ideology.   

சம கால இலக்கிய உலகின் முக்கிய ஆளுமைகளில் ஒருவர் எழுத்தாளர் வாஸந்தி அவர்கள். தமிழ் பத்திரிகை உலகில் பல தசாப்தங்கள் வலம் வந்த அவர், மனதில் எழும் கருத்துக்களை வெளிப்படையாக சொல்லத் தயங்காதவர். கமல், ரஜினி போன்றோர் அரசியலுக்கு வரக் கூடாது என்றும், ஹிந்துத்துவா தமிழகத்தில் காலூன்றக்கூடாது என்றும், திராவிட உணர்வு நீர்த்துப் போகக்கூடாது என்றும், தினமணி ஆசிரியர் வைத்தியநாதன் ஜீயரிடம் சென்று மன்னிப்பு கேட்டிருக்கக் கூடாது என்றும் பலவித கருத்துக்களை முன்வைக்கிறார்.  நேர்முகத்தின் முதற்பாகம் இது. நேர்முகம் கண்டவர்: றைசெல்.

Howard Walter Florey was an Australian pharmacologist and pathologist who shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1945 with Sir Ernst Boris Chain and Sir Alexander Fleming for his role in the development of penicillin. Although Fleming received most of the credit for the discovery of penicillin, it was Florey who carried out the first ever clinical trials. Florey's discoveries, along with the discoveries of Alexander Fleming and Ernst Chain, are estimated to have saved over 200 million lives, and he is consequently regarded by the Australian scientific and medical community as one of its greatest figures. அரிய நோய் எதிர்ப்பு மருந்து என உலக அரங்கில் ஒத்துக் கொள்ளப்பட்டது “பெனிசிலின்”.  1928-ம் ஆண்டில் பெனிசிலியம் நொடேடம்' என்ற பூஞ்சையிலிருந்து சர் அலெக்சாண்டர் பிளமெங்கிங் என்பவரால் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்ட பெனிசிலினை , பல ஆண்டுகள் தொடர் ஆராய்ச்சிக்கு பிறகு மருத்துவத்திற்கு முதன் முதலில் 1941-ம் ஆண்டு பயன்படுத்தியவர், ஆஸ்திரேலியாவின் அடிலெய்ட் மானிலத்தைச் சேர்ந்த சர் ஹொவர்ட் வால்டர் புளோரி.  அதோடு மக்களின் மருத்துவத்திற்கு பயன் படும் வகையில் பெருமளவில் தயாரிக்கும் முறையை 1944-ம் செயல்முறை படுத்தியவர்.  இதற்காக , மருத்துவத்துறை சார்ந்த நோபல் பரிசினை 1945-ம் ஆண்டு சர் ஹொவர்ட் வால்டர் புளோரி பெற்றுள்ளார். இப்பரிசு  சர் எர்னஸ்ட் போரிசஸ் செயின் மற்றும் சர் அலெக்சாண்டர் பிளமெங்கிங் ஆகியோருடன் பகிர்ந்து கொள்ளப்பட்டது. இவர் குறித்த அரிய தகவல்களை “நம்ம ஆஸ்திரேலியா” நிகழ்ச்சி மூலம் முன்வைக்கிறார்  4EB தமிழ் ஒலிபரப்பின் ரமாதேவி தனசேகர் அவர்கள்.

Questions over what claim the public has over the private lives of public figures are again to the fore following revelations the Deputy Prime Minister may have had a relationship with a staffer. Barnaby Joyce, who has spoken out several times in favour of "traditional" or "family" values, is reportedly expecting a child with his former media adviser. Questions have also been asked about politicians practising what they preach. Kulasegaram Sanchayan reports in Tamil with a feature written by Andrea Nierhoff.

On February 10, Sri Lanka will hold elections for all of its 341 local government bodies, after a two-year delay due in part to the adoption of a new, mixed-member proportional (MMP) system and the subsequent need for a new delimitation of electoral wards. This is an analysis on Sri Lanka’s Local Government Elections 2018.

இலங்கையில் உள்ளூராட்சி சபைகளுக்கான தேர்தல்கள்  நாளை சனிக்கிழமை நடைபெறவுள்ளன. இத்தேர்தலில் 15.8 மில்லியன் வாக்காளர்கள் 341 உள்ளூராட்சி சபைகளிலிருந்து 8,293 உறுப்பினர்களைத் தெரிவு செய்வார்கள். அனைத்து உள்ளூராட்சி சபைகளுக்குமான தேர்தல்கள் இலங்கையில் ஒரே நாளில் நடத்தப்படுவது இதுவே முதற் தடவையாகும். இந்தநிலையில் வடக்கின் தேர்தல் நிலவரம் தொடர்பிலும் வெற்றி வாய்ப்பு யாருக்கு அதிகம் காணப்படுகிறது என்பது தொடர்பிலும் யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில் வாழும் ஊடகவியலாளர் பிறேமானந்துடன் உரையாடுகிறார் றேனுகா.

According to the Refugee Council of Australia, around 12,000 people seeking asylum living in Australia are at risk of losing lifesaving services due to Government changes.

Status Resolution Support Services (SRSS) are a base line support safety net that often is not enough to make ends meet, but keeps people from complete destitution.

To highlight this plight, Human Rights WAtch Australia has organised an exhibition titled, "All We Can't See."  Ravi Navven is a refugee whose creation is also exhibited.  Ravi Navven talks to Kulasegaram Sanchayan about the exhibition and about his plight.

Refugee Council of Australia ஆஸ்திரேலிய அகதிகள் கவுன்சிலின் கருத்துப்படி ஆஸ்திரேலியாவில் தஞ்சம் கோருவோரில் சுமார் 12,000 பேர் அரசாங்கம் அறிமுகப்படுத்தும் மாற்றங்கள் காரணமாக உயிரிழக்க வேண்டி நேரலாம் என்று கூறுகிறது.

Tamil Arts and Culture Association Inc (TACA, Sydney) has organised the first ever Dance program with Tamil music.  Narthaki Nataraj, a disciple of Late Guru Kittappa Pillai a direct descent of the Tanjore Quartet - the pioneers is formatting the present-day Bharatanatyam repertoire, founder of Rasika Dance Academy, Manjula Vishwanath and her students will perform at at the "Thamizhisai Naatya Vizha" in Sydney.
