Political parties and civil rights organisations staged a demonstration demanding that the state government fast track the enquiry into the missing case of environmental activist S Mugilan, in Chennai yesterday.  Mugilan has been missing for more than hundred days after a press meet in which he released a report and video that showed the involvement of senior police officers in the firing against anti-Sterlite activists in Thoothukudi.  Kulasegaram Sanchayan reports.

The Tasmanian devil is the world’s largest surviving carnivorous marsupial. Having the appearance of a small dog, it is characterized by its black fur and white markings on the chest and sometimes rump. Their stocky nature is accentuated by their short muzzle and limbs. Some of the country's lowest paid workers will get a wage rise from the July 1, after a decision by the Fair Work Commission.

Unions have welcomed the three per cent increase to wages, or around $21 extra dollars per week, which will benefit more than two million workers.

But business groups say the rise will impact negatively on small businesses.
