从2014年8月13日加入“为你读英语美文”至今，严喆已陪伴我们整整十年。这十年里，我们见证了他从上海到香港、从北京到意大利再到德国的足迹，也见证了他从研究生到博士的学术成长。

如今，严喆已完成博士学业，并留在德国高校从事学术研究工作。他说：“平时工作很忙，但闲暇时我会和好友一起亲近大自然，在忙碌中寻找内心的平静与满足。”

自2014年《麦琪的礼物》以来，每逢圣诞节，无论身在何处，严喆都会为我们献上一份特别的声音礼物。这一传统已延续多年，成为一份珍贵的节日记忆。

今年，严喆在德国为我们送上这份特别的声音礼物——《Just The Two Of Us》。当孩子们长大离家，只剩两位老人相伴过圣诞时，尽管不再有往昔的热闹，但那些独特的圣诞回忆，始终被无尽的爱所包裹和守护。

So, it's back to just the two of us this Christmas.

所以，今年圣诞节又只剩下我们俩了。

It seems hardly worth the bother of it all.

似乎不值得费心。

It's not the way it used to be

一切都不像以前那样了

Back when the kids were small.

当孩子们还小的时候。

The wrapping of the presents,

包装礼物，

Filling socks with sweets and toys.

在袜子里装糖果和玩具。

A doll's house for Rebecca,

给丽贝卡买一个娃娃屋，

A train-set for the boys.

给男孩买一套火车玩具。

There was so much excitement then,

那时充满了兴奋，

The world seen through their eyes.

透过他们的眼睛看世界。

The kids awake at four a.m.,

孩子们凌晨四点就醒了，

Whispered pleasure and surprise.

窃窃私语着快乐和惊喜。

But, it's back to just the two of us this Christmas.

但今年圣诞节又只剩下我们两个人了。

Shame the grandchildren should live so far away.

真遗憾，孙子们住得太远了。

We could have bought a Christmas tree,

我们本可以买棵圣诞树，

Played games on Christmas day,

在圣诞节那天玩游戏，

Hung stockings by the fire,

在火炉边挂袜子，

Sung carols at the door,

在门口唱颂歌，

Watched the kids open their presents,

看着孩子们拆礼物，

Wrapping strewn across the floor.

包装纸散落一地。

I could have dressed as Santa 

我本可以打扮成圣诞老人

Like a festive garden gnome;

像一个节日花园的小矮人；

But, its best that little children

但，最好的是，小孩子

Spend their Christmas at home.

在家里度过圣诞节。

So, it's back to just the two of us this Christmas.

所以，今年圣诞节又只剩下我们两个人了。

Like it used to be before the kids were born.

就像孩子们出生前的日子一样。

Remember our first Christmas Eve

还记得我们的第一个平安夜

When we stayed up 'til dawn.

我们一直待到天亮。

No one else to worry us,

没有其他人打扰我们，

Doing what we liked to do.

做我们喜欢做的事情。

Christmas lunch at seven-thirty,

七点半吃圣诞午餐，

Decorations in the loo.

在厕所里装饰。

Drinking mulled wine by the fire,

在火炉旁喝热红酒，

Midnight service with our friends.

与朋友一起参加午夜仪式。

All those special Christmas memories

所有这些特别的圣诞回忆

Wrapped in love that never ends.

都包裹在永无止境的爱中。

Aren't you glad it's just the two of us this Christmas？

今年圣诞节只有我们两个人，难道你不高兴吗？
