Flood waters damaged many items dear to New Brunswick residents. Treasured family photos, a great-grandparent's diary, important legal documents - these things are irreplaceable. But Fred Farrell, director at the provincial archives, says his team may be able to help restore some of these items - and offer advice on how to protect them in the future.

The ReConnect Street Intervention Program at the YMCA of Greater Moncton is changing its focus after their lease on St. George Street was terminated early. Initially, there was real concern about the future of the program. But now the staff sees it as a blessing in disguise, and decided to focus more on street level outreach, says interim director Lisa Ryan.

Aboiteau Beach in Cap-Pelé earned its Blue Flag designation today. It's an international designation that's awarded on a yearly basis to beaches that, among other things, are safe and meet strict criteria for water quality.Only 26 beaches across Canada hold a Blue Flag designation and Aboiteau is the only coastal beach on the list. The community plans a big celebration for the designation, said mayor Serge Léger.

The third annual Living Roots Music Festival gets underway in Fredericton from May 23 to 27. More than 50 acts will perform at venues across the capital city. Organizer Eddie Young of Roots and Soul said he chose acts from across the country. And there's even a washboard workshop and concert taking place.

Between 1869 and the late 1930s, over 100,000 children were sent to Canada from the British Isles. They were poor, orphaned or abandoned, and taken in by families as a source of cheap farm and domestic labour. Cartographic archivist Mary-Ellen Badeau said many people who can trace their roots to the home children, could now find useful information in a book that recently arrived at the provincial archives.
