Sie gehen zurück auf den französischen Staatspräsidenten Emmanuel Macron. Dieser hatte 2017 in einer Rede an der Sorbonne vorgeschlagen, bis 2024 mindestens 20 Europäische Universitäten zu gründen – Netzwerke von Hochschulen aus mehreren europäischen Ländern, innerhalb derer jeder Studierende im Ausland studieren und mindestens zwei europäische Sprachen erlernen können soll. Diese Hochschulallianzen sollen die Stärken und die Vielfalt europäischer Forschung und Lehre in neuen Strukturen bündeln, um den Herausforderungen zu begegnen, mit denen Europa konfrontiert ist, und ein geeintes und starkes Europa zu unterstützen. 

Mittlerweile ist Macrons Vision Realität geworden: Seit Juli 2019 gibt es 17 Europäische Hochschulallianzen, und 2020 kamen 24 weitere Allianzen hinzu. Aber wie funktionieren diese Hochschulallianzen, und was sind ihre Schwerpunkte, Visionen und Ziele?

Jeden letzten Montag im Monat spricht Bettina Mittelstraß, Gastgeberin der 2. Staffel, hierzu mit verschiedenen Vertreter:innen der Netzwerke und fragt nach den großen Zielen, den damit verbundenen Herausforderungen und der voranschreitenden Zusammenarbeit in den Europäischen Hochschulallianzen.
