To gather deep insight into the Islamic Sharia, Sheikh Bandar Abdul Aziz enrolled into the Umm Al Qura University from where he mastered in 2002 in Al-Fiqh from the University of Shari’a and Islamic studies from where he was also honored with a Ph.D. for the same in the year 2008.

Sheikh Bandar Balila has taught Al-Fiqh in the Institute of “Al Haram Al Makki Al Sharif” as well as rendered services as a professor of faculty in Shariah in “Al Taif” University.

He leads the prayers as an Imam in Al Amira Nouf mosque in Al Aziziyah, Mecca.

After being appointed for leading Taraweeh in Masjid Al Haram in Ramadan on a temporary basis, he was awarded the permanency for the same in the year 2013.

After the official issuing of a Royal Decree by HH King Salman in the year 2016, Sheikh Baleelah was honored with the coveted position of leading as Imam and Khateeb of Istisqa Prayer.

Hailed more as a literary masterpiece than an accurate account of historical facts, The History of England from the Accession of James the Second by Thomas Babington Macaulay is an admirable mix of fact and fiction. Modern day readers may find much that is offensive and insensitive in this five volume work which covers a particular period in the long and eventful history of Britain. However, it is certainly a book that leads the reader on to further research into the events and people mentioned.

The book opens with an elaborate and detailed introduction which describes the writer's motives and reasons for embarking on this project. He goes on to trace the early civilizations that preceded the establishment of the British Monarchy. He credits the British people with resisting all foreign influences beginning with the Romans and going on to the French, Dutch and Germans who had an important role to play in the affairs of the country. The British character and traditions are lauded and commended above all others.  This was something which was characteristic of the Victorian age in which Macaulay lived, when the British Empire was at the height of its powers.

He was still working on the fifth volume and the reign of William III when he died at the relatively young age of 59. For Macaulay and his contemporaries, Britain at that time represented the zenith of civilization. Macaulay himself was assigned the task of introducing English in British colonies, especially in India. Some of his controversial ideas included dividing the world into “civilization and barbarism” and his contempt of indigenous cultures. His famously insular outlook which he himself took great pride in was something which permeated through all his writings.

The History of England... was seen as an essentially Whig representation of events. It inspired a generation of British politicians and thinkers, the most notable among them being Winston Churchill. The philosophy and viewpoint it represents evokes a past era in which the politics of the world was completely different. Macaulay is also famous for having insisted on personally visiting many of the places he describes and thus introducing the concept of social history in addition to a mere political discourse.

In spite of all the attacks it received both when it was first published and later, the book remains a highly readable account of the history of the tiny island nation which went on to become a superpower.

We aim to amplify the voices and experiences of individuals and communities throughout history to the current day who have been historically excluded, marginalized, oppressed, and exploited in the fields of science and medicine. This encompasses a focus on “unsung heroes” from underrepresented groups who have made major, oft-unrecognized contributions to their fields; examples of exploitation or exclusion of communities of people in the pursuit of medical advancement; and the struggles and triumphs encountered today by members of such groups. We believe it is essential to understand the exclusionary legacy of medical science and patient care in order to move toward a more inclusive, and ultimately more successful, laboratory bench.

Was Lady Macbeth a cunning, evil, manipulative, murderous villain, or a fierce, smart, badass influencer who did what needed to be done? Now I’m not saying conspiring to murder your husband’s boss is OK! (it’s bad!) But what’s a woman to do when she has IDEAS, a POINT OF VIEW and a PLAN and absolutely no “right” to show up in her power? 

I’m calling you, beckoning you, down a dimly lit hallway, a gravelly, uneven path, where we will hold up Lady Macbeth as our cautionary tale of what happens when you step outside the socio-political roles that history has written for YOU, for US, as WOMEN.

We are going to LAY BARE all that history has given us on female agency, ambition and power by having juicy conversations with leading experts on women and gender studies, Medieval experts, and Shakespearean scholars about what life was actually like for women during Lady Macbeth’s time in history vs. the experience we live today. 

We’ll also talk with bad-ass women (like you!) who have laid their ambition out for all to see and have suffered the overt and subliminal consequences that are built into our social, corporate, and family structures. 

We’ve been conditioned for thousands of years as women to give up, deny and side-step our own agency. To not rock the boat and to never show up visibly in our own power. OR ELSE.

This show is all about revealing our current reality by unearthing the past, all in an effort to create change at scale in our future, for women everywhere. The BIG questions we will be grappling with are, “How far have we, as women, REALLY come since the Middle Ages?” and “How can we normalize women’s ambition, help them activate their agency, and stand firmly and boldly in their power?”

Was Lady Macbeth a cunning, evil, manipulative, murderous villain, or a fierce, smart, badass influencer who did what needed to be done? Now I’m not saying conspiring to murder your husband’s boss is OK! (it’s bad!) But what’s a woman to do when she has IDEAS, a POINT OF VIEW and a PLAN and absolutely no “right” to show up in her power? I’m calling you, beckoning you, down a dimly lit hallway, a gravelly, uneven path, where we will hold up Lady Macbeth as our cautionary tale of what happens when you step outside the socio-political roles that history has written for YOU, for US, as WOMEN. On the freeways of southern California, my sister Joanna used to do this thing when traffic was bad where she’d stick her head out the window and point to where she was (attempting) to merge. Now if you’ve ever driven in such a situation, you’ll understand that people don’t tend to enjoy another car taking up one more space between them and their destination. In fact, they’ll often speed up just to make sure it doesn’t happen. However, when she stuck her head out and looked at the person in the lane over, she was given the space to merge, every time. Any short or long term Angeleno knows traffic in LA is miserable, but this plea always proved undeniable. So why did this happen? When Joanna did this, her car was no longer a piece of metal getting more in the way of someone’s destination. It became a person, with a face and a destination as well. She made the situation a conversation between people. By talking to individual people from different places, news stories, stereotypes and a color distinction on a map becomes a person, with a face, with stories, families, loves and hates. We begin to see ourselves. I understand the sentiments of people I talk to don’t represent entire countries, states or even cities. However they give others a glimpse into another place– something that might be unknown to the listener. Some of the ancient Greeks believed stars functioned as holes in the dark sky, revealing only specs of a bright, unknown fire on the other side. I hope these interviews, may serve a similar purpose. This is a podcast about people, from different places, talking about music and whatever else may come up.
