Madeleine Murray joins this episode in discussing running footwear for females. Madeleine has been a Podiatrist for 9 years and is an elite 800m and 1500m runner. She travels and competes on the European athletics circuit and has competed in the European championships in the past. Madeleine discusses:

• Footwear and influence on injury risk and improved performance in female runners. 
• History of women’s running and the incidence of injury rates in women.
• Injuries by anatomical site. Females more likely to experience knee problems.
• Female running biomechanics and foot morphology.
• Link with footwear design and construction and how that influences biomechanics.
• Footwear doesn’t influence rate of injuries in runners but does influence lower limb mechanics.
• Women's running shoes need to be wider but narrower rearfoot fit.
• Women are more sensitive to biomechanical response to rapid changes in footwear
• Varying shoes is beneficial so as not to have same movements and loading.
• Although increased range of motion in some runners, minimal evidence to show that a runner should be put in stable firm shoes.
• Recreational runners may need more shoe
• Women runners experience greater performance benefits in supershoes.
