Is the Sun Smiling?
Most of us think of the sun as a hot ball in the sky without any feelings.
And we only ever see the sun smiling, when we're watching cartoons (卡通), or when we're looking at different emojis (表情符號).
But one NASA observatory (天文台) in the United States took a picture of the sun at the right time, and from the right angle (角度).
And the picture makes the sun look like a happy Halloween pumpkin (南瓜), known as a Jack-o-lantern.
The picture doesn't really show a smiling sun.
It actually shows the sun with several dark spots on its surface (表面).
These spots are called "coronal holes" (日冕洞).
These coronal holes look dark when a picture is taken, using ultraviolet light (紫外光線) or x-rays (X光).
Coronal holes can actually show up any time.
We just can't see them with the naked eye (肉眼).
It is very dangerous to look directly at the sun.
But the official explanation of the happy sun didn't keep scientists from having fun.
Some of them used apps and computer programs to make the sun look more like a pumpkin.
They shared those pictures on social media to make people smile.
The picture didn't prove that the sun had feelings… but it proved that scientists had a sense of humor (幽默感).

Birds Have Self-control Too!
Birds might not look like humans.
But scientists say birds are more like humans than we think.
They say a bird's brain works the same way as a human's brain does.
Like, did you know a bird's brain and a human's brain works the same way when birds and people are learning to sing?
So it shouldn't be a surprise to know that birds can practice self-control, like humans can.
Having self-control (自制力) means you are able to wait, and keep yourself from doing something right away.
In a group of experiments, some birds showed they were able to give up (放棄) snacks they didn't like, so they can eventually get snacks that they did enjoy.
To give up snacks they didn't like, the birds looked at other things to distract themselves
Scientists say that's a trick (方法) used by human children and chimpanzees (黑猩猩).
Other kinds of birds even hid food they likeed so they could enjoy their snack later.
Tests also show that some birds are also smarter than other birds.
And these smarter birds, like crows, jays, magpies, and ravens, showed scientists that they could wait longer for a treat they enjoyed.
