I go through the 70.3 World Champs from my angle and also how I managed recovery and travel. I also talk about IMAZ and some of the dynamics and the race itself. This acts like a bridge between the two races and how I feel about racing again just a week after.
I try to give what is going through my mind the day before the 70.3 World Championships. How do I deal with the stress, pressure, and logistics? I just talk through what comes to mind and give you a look behind the curtain before one of the biggest races of the year.
A little life update to start, and the hecticness of traveling with the family. Then I dive right into the course. How does it look from the map, and some things I consider when preparing for a race like this.
In this episode of "Solo Sessions," host Ben Kanute shares insights into his training journey leading up to the 70.3 World Championships and Ironman Arizona. He reflects on the challenges and triumphs of his training regimen, the mental and physical demands of preparing for world-class competitions, and the importance of balancing stress and recovery. Ben also discusses his evolving training philosophies, the impact of coaching changes, and the significance of maintaining focus and adaptability in the face of unexpected challenges.
I touch a little on what I have been doing, and then dive into the women's race in Kona. I talk about everything from the racing strategy to heat management. I also talk about the need for the proper protocols to be in place to handle when an athlete overheats.
A quick run through of some things I have learned racing on the Kona course and where some key moments could happen in the women's race. Also, some tips on how to get through taper to be your best self on race day. Finishing off with a Kona war story or two.
Instead of the normal play by play (although still a bit of that involved), I try to dissect the decisions and what was going through my head during the race. I give what my goals and mentality were on the start line and how I can jump from Plan A to B to C and down the line. I also go into how I frame a "mediocre" placing in a positive way where I see a lot of potential for the end of the season.
Hear about one of my biggest pet peeves centered around triathlon and the aftermath of racing. I also go into a supplemental oxygen session and try to go into some short musings on why we all of a sudden click in training. It is also a race week and some of that energy is brought here. Overall, a short one, but with a couple fun topics.
Fired up about triathlon. World Champs season is here! Great racing everywhere. Training is consistent and going well. What is there not to be excited about recently?
I take you through traveling and racing in Santa Cruz along with quite a few in depths insights into my strategy. I also pick some favorites and talk about what it is like to not be there to compete in Nice.
