This is a first for Exmormonology! A'Lea Harris and I sit down for a conversation around all things body. So many of us have a love hate relationship with our bodies and it often consumes so much of our brain space, even when we think we are not thinking about it. We spend a lifetime trying to love ourselves and love the body we are in. The struggle is real. This conversation is rich. We peel back so many layers and discuss the multifaceted influences that contribute the thoughts and feelings we have with our body. I hope you love this conversation. I am calling this Exmormonology episode "The Recovering Good Girl." So many layers to shed when deconstructing from a high demand religion, so many if fact that it can feel very overwhelming. This week let's talk about how many of us have been shaped into good girls and what we can do about it. If even the thought of being a good girl grates at you, tune in, this is going to be a good one.

It was a big week in mormon / exmormon dom. Jeffery R. Holland said words and we are going to talk about it. Yep, we are going THERE. I want to offer love, compassion and some coaching on Holland's speech given at BYU's welcome to the 2021/22 academic school year program. Learning to manage your mind does not mean you do not get fired up or angry about things. It is about learning to process those feelings and then channel your emotions in the direction you want to go. Let's dive into this very emotionally charged speech.

This week's Exmormonology episode is a follow up to last week episode on Anger. Anger is a secondary emotion, but I wanted to start with anger because it seems to be a very loud uncomfortable one. This week we are going to find the other emotion(s) and I am going to teach you how to and what to do with it once you find it. Life is a full spectrum of emotions and being able to sit with and process the more difficult ones well help you with all that comes with being human.

If you are experiencing a faith/truth/identity crisis in any form, but especially from religious trauma, you have felt anger. This week in Exmormonology I break anger down for you and explain what is going on and why. Next week I will follow up with what is under the anger. To sum it up.....everything. Anger is okay. Anger is telling you there is something wrong. Listen to it, let it be there and know when it is time to do something about it.

The desire to try and show your mormon family how the church is not "true," after you go through your own awakening from mormonism is strong. Jim turns the mic around and ask me some questions that I have never been asked before in regards to my mormon faith crisis. What a person goes through as they are deconstructing their religious brain is very intense. The thoughts and feelings seem to come at you so fast, you often cannot make sense of it all. You feel overwhelmed, betrayed and lonely. I did too. Take a walk with me, down memory lane as I share with you stories I have never spoken about publicly as my brain deconstructed all of it and how I came back to myself. Part One.

It is easy to let panic set in when we see the damage and harm being done in the mormon church. We often feel like we need to get everyone out of the burning house, so to speak. I get it, I really do, but I want you to step back and see the importance of breaking the chain. YOU have done this and because you have done this, the ripple effect will go on for generations. Learning how to manage your mind around all aspects of leaving the church will pay huge dividends in your future, let's talk more about it in this week's Exmormonology.
