  • Receiving is a Skill that has to be Cultivated

Episode 10 -   We all know how to give a gift, but do we really know how to receive?  Receiving is a skill that we can learn, it's a part of a loving act.

    Top Takeaways:

    ·         [1:56] Giving is action-oriented.  We are in charge of this situation.  Doing for someone else makes us feel good because our brains are wired to get pleasure from giving.

    ·         [3:08] So why is it so hard to receive?  I had trouble receiving from others because I didn’t believe I was worthy of their love. My ego thought if my mother allowed my trauma, she didn’t love me, and therefore, no one else would either.

    ·         [4:32] How do we overcome our unworthy feelings when receiving?

    ·         [5:40] How do we get better at receiving?  Understand our gratitude and thanks are enough in return for a gift we received.

    ·         [7:02] So how do we receive a compliment, graciously?

    ·         [8:08] How do we learn to receive help?

    ·         [9:07] Are we balancing our giving and receiving?

    ·         [10:20] Wholeness comes from both sides of giving and receiving.  We have to both give and receive from the heart for our souls to grow and expand.

    ·         [11:26] Moving Forward by Giving and Receiving from the Heart

    Episode Links:

Ø  My primary love language is gift-giving.

Ø  I still had trouble accepting from others because of my abandonment issues from my mother.

Ø  Even the Bible [Acts 20:35] touts the virtues of giving. But this type of giving is one we do from our hearts, not our heads.

Ø  We are worthy, just as we are.

Ø  Cynicism, in action, prevents us from achieving happiness.

Ø  This limiting belief again is a lie from the ego because we are all worthy.

Ø  The first step to the realization of our worthiness comes when we rememb

  • No One Knows Enough to Be Cynical

Episode 8 - The ego knows nothing about our future; therefore, it doesn’t know enough to turn us into a cynical pessimist. Negativity is a choice.

    Top Takeaways:

    ·         [0:21] The ego knows nothing about our future; therefore, it doesn’t know enough to turn us into a cynical pessimist.

    ·         [1:23] Most of our cynicism arises from our past - yes, cynicism, pessimism, and sarcasm are all defense mechanisms we use to help us deal with uncomfortable circumstances.

    ·         [2:44] Thus, most nay-sayers make less money and have less advancement in their careers than an optimist.

    ·         [3:52] So, we avoid the cynic, and they keep their distance from us, so they don’t form meaningful connections with others.

    ·         [4:26] We know that negative emotions cause metabolic, hormonal, and immunological issues.  It causes a higher risk of heart attacks and strokes.

    ·         [7:26] Growth in any form can cause discomfort, but we can overcome it.

    ·         [8:19] Practicing gratitude is a beautiful way to see the good life provides us each and every day.

    ·         [9:14] When we are mindful, we stay in the present moment where we can see and accept what is.  Mindfulness allows us to recognize any negativity and let it pass.

    ·         [11:36] When we are creative, when we are playful, when we are curious, we open our connection to Spirit.  These are the times we are in a magical state of flow - when we lose track of time.

    ·         [12:34] Pessimism grows from fear and pain from our past.  So, we put on a mask called cynicism.

    ·         [12:52] We need to remove the masks and become our authentic selves

  • Forgiveness is the Greatest Recognition that We're Healing

Episode 7 - Forgiveness is hard.  But when we forgive someone, it’s the most significant recognition that we are healing. To heal, we must forgive.

    Top Takeaways:

    ·         [0:11] The statement, I forgive you, is simple but invokes powerful emotions from our egoic minds.

    ·         [0:35] Showing compassion for another through forgiveness is a fight between getting justice for the ego and our ability to rise above the experience we’ve had.

    ·         [1:40] Forgiving someone isn’t about condoning their behavior.  It also isn’t about forgetting. We never deny our pain or our emotions.

    ·         [2:20] Did you know forgiving others helps increase our self-esteem?

    ·         [3:00]  Unforgiveness Hurts Us - We replay the event and cause our own suffering.

    ·         [5:19] Personal boundaries need to be put in place to keep us from being injured again until we rebuild trust.

    ·         [7:26] Closure is an Excuse of the Ego

    ·         [8:47] But I accept what is— so I can grow and move forward.

    ·         [9:05] For us to move past the discomfort and grow, we need to dig deep and feel all the emotions so we can get to the root of the agony.

    ·         [10:11] Develop Empathy Helps the Healing Process

    ·         [12:02] We want to choose to live from our compassionate heart, not our egoic mind.

    ·         [13:55] Forgiving Ourselves as a Part of the Healing Process, but being compassionate is a part of our self-care.

  • Discomfort is Part of the Growth Process

Show Description:  Episode 6 - When we are uncomfortable, it's a sign we are starting a growth process.  Discomfort is a feeling of the ego trying to keep us stagnate.

    Top Takeaways:

    ·         The development process comprises many steps. We all begin in the unconscious stage where we don’t realize that we need to learn a new skill or a life lesson for our soul to expand.

    ·         [2:16] When we move out of unconsciousness into awareness, when we have an epiphany, we are excited.  Then we quickly move from fresh insight into a place of fear if we aren’t listening to our hearts.

    ·         Uncomfortable feelings can plague our egoic mind.  Clarity of thought only comes when we look within ourselves for the answers.

    ·         [4:04] We need to be very patient with ourselves during this uncomfortable part of the growth process because it involves unlearning old limits.

    ·         We are in control of what we are becoming.

    ·         Reaching out to others and connecting authentically with them cultivates a support system to encourage us.  These connections are vital to our wellbeing.

    ·         [6:48] Take Time to Reflect.  The development process moves us out of discomfort when we can reflect on the progress we have made.

    ·         Since we choose to have a growth mindset, and we know that the Universe provides magical and synchronistic moments, we can empower ourselves with our new truth.

    ·         [8:42] Consciously Choose Growth As we stretch ourselves and move out of our comfort zone, we plunge into the unknown.

Any growth we go through means there is an ending of an old way and the beginning of something new.

  • Revealing How All Limitations are Self-Imposed

Show Description:  Episode 5 - Limitations are self-imposed because we base them on a belief we have about what we can and cannot do.  Believe in our limitless potential.

    Top Takeaways:

    ·         As humans, we have limitless possibilities for our growth potential.  We can be more than we are, do more than we do, and contribute more to humanity.  All our limitations are self-imposed.

    ·         Our Expectations Influence Our Outcomes - As we build up our self-image by taking action and moving outside our comfort zones, we create a new belief that we can succeed.

    ·         How Do we Open to New Ideas?  By working on personal development, we gain self-confidence and recognize that happiness arises from within ourselves.

    ·         Our mindset moves away from being fixed into a growth mindset.

    ·         Be Sure We Discount the Naysayers - If we notice that our self-talk isn’t helpful, we can learn to reframe the stories we are telling ourselves, so we are an encouraging voice.

    ·         Don’t Compare Ourselves to Others - Comparing ourselves to others is an act of fear of being our authentic selves.

    ·         Have a Vision for Our Lives - The vision we have of ourselves allows us to see who we want to become and take intentional steps on that path.

    ·         Our Authentic Self Has No Limitations - When we are inspired, during meditation, when we are in flow, we cannot comprehend limitations.

    ·         How Do We Move Forward?  Realize that we hold the key to our self-imposed prison of self-doubt, indecision, and fear.  Our present understanding doesn’t limit our possibilities.
