In this episode I sit down with my former client Carrie whose story embodies what it means to hold onto hope even when life takes an unexpected turn.

After six IUIs and one egg retrieval, Carrie was preparing for an embryo transfer when she received a life-changing diagnosis: breast cancer. Her fertility journey came to a sudden halt as she began two years of cancer treatments and surgeries, including 16 rounds of chemotherapy. Through it all, she held tightly to her dream of becoming a mom and seeing her husband become a dad.

Once her treatments were complete, Carrie sought a new, more soulful path forward—working with Lisa as her fertility coach and connecting with a hypnotherapist I recommended for additional support. Together, they helped her process the heavy emotions, expand her circle of support, and find gratitude even in the hardest moments.

Carrie’s journey reminds us that hope and healing can coexist, and that opening your heart to new forms of support can create space for miracles. After another egg retrieval, she received one precious embryo — the embryo that became her daughter, Ella now 20 months old.

This conversation is for anyone walking through fertility challenges, IVF, or life detours that test your strength. Carrie’s story is proof that even when the path feels uncertain, your miracle may already be on its way.

Embryo Donation, Late Motherhood & Finding Peace After IVF — This is a heartfelt conversation with a past client of mine, Betsy. 

She shares her personal story about perseverance, choice, and the unexpected routes to parenthood. “Nothing should go untried" - Betsy. 

Betsy began her fertility journey in 2016, pursued multiple egg retrievals with no viable embryos, and ultimately discovered embryo donation in her mid-40s. She walks us through how she found a matchmaker, navigated the legal and counseling steps, traveled for transfers, and became a mother as a solo parent at the age of 48.

We talk honestly about grief and letting go, what it’s like to be an “older mom,” the practical logistics (lawyers, transfer costs, embryo transport), meeting her embryo donor, and the sense of peace and fierce love she feels now. This episode is for anyone wondering “Is it too late?” or looking for real-world insight into embryo donation as a pathway to parenthood.

Sue’s Bio: My name is Sue Johnston and I met my husband, a U.S. Naval Officer in 1984. We were married on May 3,1986. My husband Bob and I struggled for nearly a decade to have our one and only child, who was born on May 1, 1994. The Navy didn't make infertility treatment any easier either. We moved 14 times in the first 12 years of our marriage and Bob was frequently deployed overseas... often for 6 months at a time. We even had a 2-1/2-year tour in the Philippines in the midst of our battle with infertility.

Although I didn't choose to have infertility, I eventually turned my pain into purpose after learning how to embrace my resolution. I am passionate about supporting RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association because the people I met through this organization were my lifeline when I was in the thick of my infertility battle. Since then, I have worn almost every “volunteer hat” for RESOLVE. I have been actively involved in RESOLVE’s FederalAdvocacy Day State for 10 years in many leadership roles. I am the co-Founder of the Detroit, MI Walk of Hope and have helped extend it to a statewide event. I lead local and national RESOLVE support groups both virtually and in person. In January of 2021, I started my Pregnancy and Parenting After Infertility Support Group (PAIGES). In 2022, I created a monthly PAIGES PLAYGROUP where moms and their miracle babies can get together to socialize with each other. One of my favorite past time activities is to create custom designed nursery paintings for all members of my general infertility support group who have made it to the other side of infertility. In addition, I am a leadership board member of the Michigan Fertility Alliance and helped to create the first ever Michigan Infertility Advocacy Day (MIAD) in September of 2021. I
