Today -  This week Richland County commissioners approved a new three-year contract with the Fraternal Order of Police union representing 27 sheriff's deputies. The pact, which takes effect Jan. 1, includes annual pay increases of 5 percent, 3 percent and 3 percent in 2022, 2023 and 2024, respectively.

Also, are there plans for affordable, subsidized housing in Ashland for seniors? Apartment-living in Ashland is on the rise. The upscale apartment complex Latitude 40 Flats opened to renters in June. And at the corner of Fourth and Union streets, another apartment building is slated to be built. On top of that a 200-unit apartment complex is planned where the old Hess & Clark building once stood between Orange and Union streets.

Today - A $1 million grant program for local companies involved in entertainment, lodging, tourism and the food and beverage industry will begin in January. It’ll be using American Rescue Plan Act funds approved by Richland County commissioners. The grants, ranging from $10,000 to $30,000, will be administered through a program operated by the Richland Area Chamber & Economic Development to benefit companies and nonprofits impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Later, the Knox County teen who went missing December 6th was found Tuesday in southern Ohio, according to a press release from the Knox County Sheriff's Office. Alyssa Wood, 14, of Mount Vernon, was located in Jackson County, more than two hours south of her hometown.

Today -During this week’s meeting Mark Abrams, the city's parks and recreation superintendent, said that the City of Mansfield will build a new $8 million pool and aquatics center at Liberty Park if a proposed 0.25-percent income tax increased is approved by voters in May.

Today -  Andre Tabler doesn’t fully realize it, but he’s a pretty lucky kid. The 6-year-old Mansfield resident was the final person to have his name drawn Friday afternoon for a $10,000 scholarship from the Ohio Department of Health's Vax-2-School program. 

Also, Fredericktown’s school board voted Tuesday to approve the resignation of superintendent Susan Hayward, which will take effect Jan. 2, 2022.  She’s leaving to pursue another professional opportunity, The board also voted for the district to pay out Hayward's accrued and unused personal and vacation time. Board member Patty Miller initially made the motion to add this stipulation to the vote.

Today - Nearing the end of its legislative year, Mansfield City Council is expected to give second reads to legislation that will impact the upcoming year. A temporary spending plan for next year, along with a proposed 0.25 percent income tax to benefit the city's parks system, are both on today’s busy agenda. Today - A beloved tradition returned to downtown Mansfield on Friday night. That meant horse-drawn carriage rides, live music and of course, the lighting of the city’s massive Christmas tree.

Also, like Mansfield, Ashland had a great celebration over the weekend as well. And Ashland Mayor Matt Miller announced Saturday evening that the owner's of Grandpa's Cheese Barn were the anonymous donors who gifted Ashland $100,000 in November to bring Christmas spirit downtown.

Today - this week Loudonville Council President Matt Young announced that he’ll make a run for the newly formed 67th District of the Ohio House. The new district will include all of Ashland County and parts of Medina. Ashland and parts of Medina and Holmes counties have been represented by District 70’s Darrell Kick since 2017. Kick is a republican from Lakeville. He’ll vacate the seat on Dec. 31, 2022.
