南極長征紀錄片【無邊】金馬影展首映
Taiwanese South Pole Expedition Film to Show at Golden Horse
A group of brave Taiwan adventurers went to the South Pole.
The five people included an athlete, a TV show host, and students.
Going to the South Pole is not an easy trip.
The South Pole is the southernmost point on Earth.
Days and seasons at the South Pole are very different.
Winter in the South Pole runs from May to August.
During that time, there is no sunlight at all.
It is completely dark.
Then during summer, from November to February, the South Pole gets sunlight all day.
And the South Pole is one of the coldest places on Earth.
During winter, the average temperature in the South Pole is about minus 60 degrees Celsius.
And the coldest temperature ever in the South Pole, is minus 82.8 degrees Celsius!
Brrr!
So it was no easy feat (壯舉) for the Taiwan adventurers to get there.
They left Taipei on November 13th, 2018, and flew to Chile (智利).
Then they set out on skis (滑雪板).
The group ran into blizzards (暴風雪).
And they had problems with their food rations (口糧).
But finally, they reached the South Pole on December 22nd, 2018.
Now, a movie about their amazing trip will show at the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival next month.
「無邊」記錄台灣5人組成的長征隊,挑戰以越野滑雪的方式到達南極。
The group hopes their trip can inspire young people to have the courage to follow their dreams.

Many people grow pumpkins in fall.

When Travis stands next to his giant pumpkin, it's as tall as his chest.
And this giant pumpkin weighs 1,161 kg!
這顆巨大的南瓜有1,161公斤重!
So it's about as heavy as a small car.
Travis' pumpkin won the 49th World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off.
It's a giant pumpkin contest in California.
Travis says he drove with the pumpkin for 35 hours to get to the contest!
He says it's not easy to grow giant pumpkins in Minnesota.
The cold weather in the U.S. state makes growing giant pumpkins quite a challenge (挑戰).
But Travis' pumpkin is not the heaviest pumpkin in the world.
According to the Guinness World Records, the heaviest pumpkin in the world was grown in Italy.
That pumpkin is about 1,226 kg!
