    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • At the age of 22 I had just started university studying molecular genetics to become a doctor, I was in the best shape of my life and I figured the world was my oyster. But the world didn’t give me pearls; it gave me arthritis, intense pain in every single joint. There were nights I would sip dinner through a straw because my jaw was so painful and swollen. Eventually I learned to build my pain tolerance so I could get out of bed, through college, get a job and have a life, but there was pain all the time and my range of motion deteriorated.
    • I tried medication, supplements, diet changes, acupuncture. Everything worked for a little while and then it just stopped and I could figure out why. This took up about 20 years of my life. Finally, my father found a place in India where they do ‘combined therapy’ and they’ve had successes with multiple illnesses. I went and the man there talked to me for two weeks asking me questions about my entire life. At the end he said “Here’s the problem, you believe you’re responsible for everyone in your life. You don’t think so consciously, but from everything you’ve told me, you’ve created a belief that started when you were 8 years old.”
    • I was told if you’re in constant pain and lying in bed with it, you don’t have to be responsible for anyone and no one can judge you for it and you don’t have to feel guilty for it. If you believe deep down that you’re not responsible for anyone but yourself, you don’t need the arthritis. I woke up the next morning with no pain, no inflammation, more mobility and I could even breathe better. I freaked out! The damage was still there, but the pain was gone and I could do more.
    • This isn’t just about illness, this is why you don’t have the relationships you want, this is why the money isn’t coming in, this is why the success isn’t coming in. That problem you think you can’t overcome or the thing that happens over and over to you, that’s a solution for something else. I’ve learned to help people find out what the actual problem is and when you remove the actual problem the problem you were trying to fix disappears and it feels like reality itself shifts around you.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘Most chronic illnesses are the solutions for problems people don’t realise they have.’
‘You create your world largely out of the avoidance of bad emotions and you’re willing to put yourself through financial or physical troubles to avoid those feelings of primarily guilt or shame.’
‘Those emotions are choices, people don’t realise it because in the moment it feels like I just reacted, I felt guilty or sad, but it’s all based on programming growing up how you’re going to react to situations, what emotions you’re going to feel and you can train yourself to react differently.’
‘I can tell when your conscious beliefs match your unconscious beliefs. You think you’re telling the truth but there’s a part of you saying no, I don’t want to do that. Once we know there’s an incongruence there we go down and try to figure out what’s happening.’

  • Self-Expansion

In this episode of the podcast Gavin talks about attending a business workshop/retreat recently where the day began with meditation and visualisation which was the most interesting part of the day for Gavin as he discovered a message for self-expansion.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • When we did the visualisation one thing most people experience is a sense of clarity as to how to go about creating or generating business. For me, the business side was very clear, I didn’t have any insight into how to grow, how to reach a big audience, how to change my strategy, etc. The message I did get was of self-expansion.
    • I’ve just started working for a local property company and other people have told me when you start it will take time to get your name out, get properties listed, and to make sales. They’re impressing upon me the belief that I will be able to create ‘x’ or make ‘x’ in a certain amount of time. If I allow myself to lead with the belief that they are correct, then I can’t make more sales or deals than I’m allowing myself to believe.
    • A lot of people believe manifestation to be a magic wand. Whilst it is magical, it’s certainly not a wand. We manifest and things turn up in a certain way. Not necessarily the way that we originally intended or interpreted, there’s an element of faith that you have in your ability and in the universe guiding and supporting you and in this faith you must have trust.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘Self-expansion is taking the idea of who you are and growing that. For example, your belief that you can achieve ‘x’, why not increase that belief to ‘x, y, z’?’
‘We’re capable of so much more than we believe, or we lead ourselves to believe.’
‘Anything is possible for all of us. We are infinite intelligence, we are limitless wisdom.’

  • Septemics With Jim Marshall

In this episode of the podcast Gavin is joined by Jim Marshall, author of the book ‘Septemics: Hierarchies of Human Phenomena’ to talk about septemics.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to The Ocean Cleanup, so it's the most efficient way to give - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Septemics is a philosophical science based on the fact that many phenomena related to human beings occur in a sequence of seven levels. Septemics comprise a selection of scales or sequences each of which breaks down various human phenomena into a hierarchy of seven steps. There are 35 step scale which span the spectrum of human experience – there is no situation that is going to arise for a human being to which one (or more than one) of these 35 scales will not apply. It’s universally applicable.
    • Each of the 35 scales has seven levels and each one is an axis of human phenomena. In order to correctly evaluate a person, there are many axes to measure a person. Some people are high on one scale and low on another, for example: Einstein was a genius, that’s level one on the scale of human ability, one the scale of basic purposes he was not at the top of the scale he was at maybe level two or three possibly level four.
    • I worked for decades as a human development engineer very successfully, my clients were very happy with the work I did for them, some of them I worked with for hundreds and hundreds of hours over a period of years. As I was doing this I started to observe that when they would improve, they would improve in ways that were predictable to me. I never said that to them, but I noticed these facts and after a while I had these various scales of various lengths that had been written down. When a person moved on a scale as a result of our interaction, I would know what level he was going to go to because I could see what level he was at.
    • I worked on this book for 25 years in consultation with some very brilliant associates of mine. I started passing round the transcript to my students, my clients, friends of mine and getting feedback. The feedback to this from day one was astonishingly positive. They were blown away by this. I was helping people in the hundreds as a human development engineer, now I’m helping people in the millions with this book. Anyone who reads English reasonably well can use this book alone because it has everything in it you need to improve yourself, your life and the people around you. Each of the 35 scales provides the user with an infallible way of determining the salutariness [sic] or the beneficialness [sic] of any group activity or individual.Combined, they empower one to understand, predict and manage human affairs to a degree hitherto unattainable by most.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘Every one of these scales will blow the mind of the reader because this is getting into a whole new subject that apparently has been unknown until I stumbled across it.’
‘One of the axioms of this project is that you can only move to an adjacent level. Sometimes it may seem that you’ve skipped a level but that is impossible – you can go through levels quickly and easily, but you went through them nevertheless.’
‘This solves a problem that has been the bane of human existence since the beginning of society: What is the gradient? It’s impossible to lose 100lbs, but it’s possible to lose 1lb 100 times, this is true for everything – you have to have the right gradient in order to succeed.’
‘I have a hard science background, I took 26 semesters of math, when I saw this appear mathematically I knew that I was looking at natural law.’

  • There Is Always Room For Growth

In this episode of the podcast Gavin talks about the times when we’ve learned something new, made an achievement, when we have experienced success and got to the point where we’ve ‘made it’ or ‘got it’. But there is always room for growth, not just materialistically but in terms of consciousness.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • I gave myself a scale from 0-100 to visualise for staying outstanding, which I deem to be staying about 70%. When I stayed above 70% for an elongated period of time and made it a habit, I took the 70-100% and made it 1-100 again. When I achieved 70 and above I did the same and I continue to keep collapsing the framework and reframing it in a way that allows me to keep growing.
    • If you finish reading a book your rational mind might think there’s no point in ever reading it again, I’ve learned everything I have by reading it. You’ll know that’s not true, if you read the book again you could pick out other points that were beneficial, points that you hadn’t recognised. It’s the same with re-watching films, you notice different things in them the more times you watch them.

    BEST MOMENTS
‘This idea that there is always room for growth is an attitude that we should adopt. It’s a way of life, a sense of awareness, it’s a habit, it takes 21 days to form a habit.’
‘When we question things we begin to see or create loopholes or new ideas or belief systems. So it’s really important to know there’s always growth. Without that sense of awareness how can you encourage yourself to new levels of growth?’

  • A Veteran’s Business Coach With Lee Broders

In this episode of the podcast Gavin is joined by Lee Broders, an international veteran business coach, who helps people who have served in the military to set up passion-based businesses after they’ve left the service and may have become disillusioned in the workplace.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • I joined the army at 16 and left at 26 and did four months of odd jobs before I started my own business, an IT company, where I started out building computers but progressive to working with corporates as a consultant. Over the years I’ve had a number of businesses and partnerships from property to mediation to motorcycle and vehicle repair. Some have been profitable, and others have been money pits, but it means I’ve done the hard learning, I know what it’s like to get a repossession letter.
    • About three years ago I had a bit of a burn out, I stopped exercising and began seeing a therapist who said I was good at talking and suggested I should become a life coach. SO I researched life coaching, more for my own benefit than anything else, but I realised that I could actually do it and so I started helping a couple of people I knew. During covid a lot of my other businesses halted overnight, and I concentrated on the coaching. Then, I spoke to a friend who was coming out of the military who wanted to start up a business and I talked him through the process.
    • When we’re an employee we’re paid what our employers think we’re worth. There will always be a cap on it because they want to make money out of us. One of the things about freedom is you need time and money. A lot of people look at money as being a bad thing, but it’s a facilitator, and time is the most valuable resource we have in the world, we can never get it back. Wealthy people are not people who are financially rich, they’re people who have time to do what they want to do when they want to do it. They set their alarm clock not because they have to but because they want to.
    • There are no quick fixes in life, if there were I’d be a billionaire! It all depends on the individual. We’re all individuals and for that we are graced. We all have the ability to do whatever we want in life. I took my law degree at 42, my masters at 47, I’ve learned to fly, paraglide, dive, all these things I learned in later life or re-learned how to do. You can too, you have to ask questions of yourself to unlock the blocks.

    BEST MOMENTS
‘Work for yourself not somebody else, make yourself rich.’
‘Having one source of income can be dodgy because you never know when you’re going to lose that source.’
‘I’m passionate about helping other people, I enjoy talking, I’m also a good listener which is what’s helped me when working with other people to make changes in their lives that are drastic enough for them to live a limitless life.’
    ‘Time plus money equals freedom.’

    ABOUT THE GUEST

Lee Broders helps people find the clarity and confidence to create financial independence and empower them to live a life of wealth and freedom. Enabling them to have more time, money and freedom to live the Limitless Life they desire and deserve.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • I was swimming and one of the things my coach taught me and used during our training sessions I never really used even though I thought I was. For a swimming technique I’ve learned where there are tiny pauses between the phases of the stroke. I’ve been swimming a lot in preparation for the English Channel swim, and before that the aborted Strait of Gibraltar swim, and only last week did I realise that the pauses were important. All of a sudden I got into a graceful flow.
    • The way to tell your stroke efficiency is how many strokes you do per length. In a 25 metre pool someone of my experience should be achieving under A decent swimmer: 21-23 strokes. I’ve not been below 21 strokes the whole time, but on the very first length after figuring out the pauses my stroke count was 19. It makes me wonder if I’d have reached France that day. I will do it again some day.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • We all grew up with the word fear and failure as something to be scared of, but I see fear as: Face Everything And Rise. Same as fail: First Attempt In Learning. It’s all about programming and mindset to really thrive and not give up because there are great things ahead of us.
    • The majority of news on TV is bad news, we don’t hear a lot of good news. Only you have the control and the power to programme your mind and not let it be programmed by others.
    • No book idea is stupid, there’s a market out there for anybody. I like to target people who are in real estate and minorities – people who look like me – because there are many people out there who want to do things but don’t know how to do it or have never seen someone like them do it before.
    • These shit holes and roadblocks in life, slaps in the face, punches in the stomach had to happen multiple times in my life to get where I am today. That’s a combination of losing loved ones, being racially discriminated against, people not treating me fairly, hitting 430 on my credit score which is really bad in the US, I was completely broke and sleeping in my pick up truck while working two jobs, when my family went negative towards my decision making. All these things have molded me into who I am today, but at the end of the day it’s just you, you know yourself the most, you remember those downs and those ups. Any leader has to be a target, make sacrifices, feel alone at some point and I’m happy I went through that at a young age and understood those lessons in life. Now I teach other people about those and it’s kept me motivated, mature and strong in will and mindset.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘The most important thing in your entrepreneurship journey is not giving up.’
‘Give before you receive – leave education and provide as much content as you can to educate people about what you do and how you help them.’
‘If you’re looking to change the world and impact the world it’s baby steps but your idea matters and you matter.’
‘You are your worst enemy but also the best advocate for yourself. If you say you can do it you can do it.’

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • A buddy of mine, Dave, and his 5-year-old kid, Max, came to stay with me while they went skiing. Max was a speed demon on the slopes and he had no fear. When he fell down he got straight back up. I was in awe and admiration of the way a 5-year-old sees the world and deals with what’s happening to them.
    • I got into a situation at the swimming pool where I was doing some maintenance swims and was out into a lane with some slower women when I should have been put in with some faster people. It was run badly and I wanted to get out and tell the lifeguard/swimming coach. But I thanked my ego for raising its ugly head and that this wasn’t the right way to deal with the situation. The right way is to be grateful to the opportunity the universe has provided me to understand that today I need to slow down and work on my technique, to use the time wisely and not be concerned with speed.

Through sharing my own experiences and hosting some fabulous individuals including some big household names to discuss key topics around mindset and the success formulas I hope the listener will become inspired to create space for change for betterment in their lives. I aim to inspire change by encouragement, not by force. I intend to inspire by education, not by regulation.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Being a mindset coach, for me, means overcoming limiting beliefs, having emotional intelligence, understanding that there are certain things you can control and that’s what you worry about, don’t worry about the things you can’t control. I help people overcome their limiting beliefs, improve their self-esteem, build up their self-confidence, and really give them the ability to go for what they want in life, and design a life they don’t need a vacation from.
    • Expectations are a dangerous thing. If you expect things to go well all the time you’re going to be highly disappointed when things don’t go as planned. You should aspire instead of expect, because you’ll put in the work to make something what you want it to be and you’ll understand that it’s not always going to go as planned.
    • Vulnerability is a strength. When you’re vulnerable and you’re willing to actually open up and share some of your story, you’re willing to let people know that you’re not actually OK and you need help, it allows you to really go out and get the support you need. We’re very sociable creatures, it’s one of the things that makes us great and different from other species. Get help and let people know how you’re feeling, do not try to take everything on yourself – it's a losing game. Have people around you (friends or family) that you can talk to who will give you an unbiased opinion, who will listen to what’s underneath what you’re saying. Challenge yourself to do something different and is challenging for you each day. When you challenge yourself and you do succeed you’ve set a new baseline for yourself and you’re not the same person you were yesterday. It takes small incremental things.
    • When you feel down you need to really identify things that bring the joy back in your life and focus on them, this will be your solitude or the thing you do to bring you back to where you want to be as a person. Every day, when you suffer from things like PTSD, they can hit you out of nowhere with no warning. When that happens you need to be mindful of how that manifests; do you feel a certain way physically when you know it’s happening? Do you know your triggers that bring you to these situations? Affirmations, journalling, singing, whatever it is, you should have some go to tool that will help your mood, help you get back up, you have to have habits when certain situations happen and you start to feel down or not like yourself.

    BEST MOMENTS
‘Emotional intelligence is really just having control of your emotions, understanding empathy and compassion, really being able to regulate/calm yourself and respond to things in a rational way.’
‘Appreciating the opposite of joy makes you grateful for all the good times, makes you thankful for your partner.’
‘It’s not the outcome we need to focus on so much, it’s the journey, learning along the way, being open to what’s going on.’
‘Stay calm, understand that it is not a permanent thing, it’s temporary. When we understand that the discomfort and pain is temporary, we know we can take steps to get out of there and move forward.’

  • Filling The Void II

In this episode of the podcast Gavin talks about a friend of his that recently got injured through sport and has started smoking marijuana to unhelpfully fill a void and to deal with injury depression, something Gavin has some experience with.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • My experience with injury depression has always been two steps forwards, five steps backwards. Each time I get injured I get depressed, and I fall off the wagon. It’s something I’ve recognised and become aware of, and I’ve now relinquished the idea of injury depression. But in my friend’s case, that change is so drastic that if I was to be able to show that he was replacing one thing with another to fill a void, and that the thing he’d chosen to use or to do wasn’t the healthiest, I’m sure he’d probably take different action.
    • As a coach you can’t help someone who is not willing to help themselves first. I think in this person’s situation there are little things we can do, like breaking down habits. Every personal trainer I’ve ever worked with has said no matter how injured you are there’s always something you can work on, whether it’s working on the physical side of your game that you can do (the lower body if you’ve injured your shoulder, for example).
    • My friend could do lots of little things. It is slightly difficult for him, his injury is deep in his stomach muscles, so any extensions use the core. But, to be physical we don’t have to do physical exertion. I put breathing in the physical exercise mould, he could be using his time to do breath work, to meditate, to better understand himself. When you have a better understanding of yourself you’re able to change things. You don’t have to throw the kitchen sink at it and make big changes overnight, just small incremental changes.
    • We need to know what makes us tick, once we know that we can adapt our scenario/situation/outcome to something that’s more fulfilling. We’d all like to be able to go from zero to hero in a matter of moments rather than a matter of years, but that life journey, that path, doesn’t happen overnight, it’s something that builds up slowly through consistency. When you take these diversions of distractions you’re not helping yourself get there any quicker.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘If you smoke frequently it blocks the receptors in our brain and in our system.’
‘It’s so interesting that we can get distracted so easily and become unaligned and unhinged quicker than we see it happening. Eventually there will be a point where you feel it, and when you feel it you become aware of it, and awareness is the first port of any change.’
‘Go for a long walk. Get out in nature. Nature is the biggest healer, we really connect with ourselves in nature.’
‘The best way to get rid of a bad habit is to replace it with a good habit.’
